  • How inappropriate and even insulting it was to listen to a wonderful genius and well-spoken man like Isaac Asimov and then to look down and see the subtitles filled with misspellings and just downright illiteracy. So I managed to focus on the man speaking and not the subtitles corrupting his speech. Long live the mind and the person that was Isaac Asimov.

  • It's the year 2011 and people are still having to work in the so-called "insulting " jobs; construction ( I worked here too ),janitors, dishwashers (that's what I did for several months ). I wish I had a robotic helper. But, I didn't! None of the big corporations like the Hotel chains, fast food restaurants invest in these kinds of things or even care about the working conditions too much of their employees.

     Maybe in Japan or Singapore.

  • LOL human beens

  • Damn jew

  • @sdflksdfkfh Shrewed jew !!!

  • Could someone explain me what does inmovile mean at 1:57? Cant find in any of the dictionaries.

  • @akaneptune To me it sounds like Asimov is saying immobile. So I would say it is just a typo by whoever transcribed it.

  • @akaneptune It's actually "immobile".

  • 2:53 Only human beens could do? Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!

Don't you mean human being? Wow man.

  • Does anyone know what year this was recorded? Judging by the video quality, I'm guessing between 1986-1989.

  • Asimov was a visionary. Computers/internet extend our cerebral cortex, enhance interpersonal dialogue & speed up flow of knowledge. It's a shame that he couldn't have lived longer to experience more of what he anticipated.

  • I gotta start reading his works. I already knew him for being an atheist (I am too) but now I wanna read all his science fiction stuff too.

  • How nice to hear Isaac Asimov's wonderful point on the flaws of building cities without the automobile in mind before its invention has led to various problems when they are finally invented. This sums up science fiction or in a way a sense of futurism. How many people think like this? It's an eye opener.

  • @ajittffcure after i heard him say that statement, i i thought about it for a few seconds.. then straight away started searching for comments relating that. you were the 1 comment i saw.. WOW its so true.. Why are there always road works. (non-maintence) why are there always makeing new roads... in cities.. Its so true .. Humans wernt ment to have cars and such in cities..

  • Isak would be very disappointed after visiting Facebook and seeing that those little chips, computers are making robot civilization that plays stupid games like Farmville and that 90% of all people are using computers for totally retarded things. Maybe the best point is in "Pets", song by Porno For Pyros. Human brain loves to be lazy. Or, maybe movie "Idiocracy".

  • @TMTKowalski LOL, too true.

  • Brilliant and scrupolustactly amained though crambucous and streeticaling impair but well speech.

  • The subtitles bother me!

But all-together a good source! I'm writing a paper on him, so this is very useful.

  • Isaac Asimov should be remembered for two reasons: Firstly, for being one of the most brilliant minds of our era....and secondly for having amazing sideburns

  • yeah its to bad he died

  • Precognoscense

  • human beens?

  • @grozlz The best kind.

  • @grozlz eheheheh XD

  • uav remote controlled robot.

how long will it take that they can controll themself?

    deciding by their own intelligence?

see what happen when using AEGIS

  • that don't look the least bit like human biengs

  • I need a native speaker to pay attention to 2:45...there's a word I can't get " that don't look" [the word I don't understand] "like human beings" Thanks!

  • "we have robots, right now, that don't look the least bit like human beings" ... although you asked a month ago, so it may be a bit pointless now :)

  • @karenteacher2008 "don't look the least bit like human beings"

  • Comment removed

  • Look at their country of origin-Spain.That would indicate they are not a native English speaker.Or perhaps they found this wonderful clip and decided to share it. We can still hear his wonderful words even if the text is misspelled. Don't be such a nitpicking snob, candellabarawn.

  • human beens you say...

  • I just found this guy out. How amazing, his predictions for modern society are. Amazing guy really.

  • Asimov is one of the greatest men ever. I love his books.

  • Whoever subbed this doesn't know what human beings or automobiles are.

  • I like him because he makes my brain see farther and deeper!!!! and boil in rightful and correct imagination. Sadly todays generation doesnt have outstanding persons like him to give their imagination direction, but just stupid dumb computer games and stupid dumb Animated cartoons and movies. I feel sad for todays generation!! we should do something for the future generations. He forgot to point that out...uuu but he did!!!!! damn he was sharp! He is one of my few idols too...

  • Yapp He/She might need to go back to school, But we should be thanking him/her for the uppload!! dont you think

    "weedman97" ?

  • To the person who made the subtitles, please go back to school.

  • Issac Asimov is, has been, and always will be my favorite and most respected author, and I thank you for putting him here. If you insist on subtitling his speech, however, then please turn up your hearing aid!!! Subtitles at their best are a major distraction, and when they don't match the vocals they tend to be damned annoying. It's insulting to a member of MENSA to have his conversation this way.

  • Ya i'd have to agree with you on that Asimov could help alot of people not just for vocabulary but intelligence as well as teaching ones self to learn

  • There are two directions: freedom and slavery.

Freedom means possibility to act according to our nature.

Slavery in the hands of highly developed technologized systems ought to mean a way of life optimized toward greatest work efficiency, in other words toward best functioning (in one thing and thus), toward full health of everything i.e. natural healthy ways of living i.e. freedom. This is so because our needs and our natural goals in life safeguard survival which is best reached by full health

  • I miss the good doctor.

I never met him, but I read his books and stories throughout my youth from the 1970's onward. His notorious kindness and good humor came through in everything he wrote.

There are a few people in this world whose passing has effected me greatly. One of those people is Isaac Asimov. Rest in peace Isaac. I know, as you did, that there is no afterlife, but for people like you, I surely wish there was a good one.

  • thats really nice what u have written for him ...... i am big fan of Issac too....its sad that i could never meet him....hope there is an afterlife ...just to meet him......i have a lot of questions for him....

  • he didn't agree with after life ?

  • dr. asimov was an atheist

  • Visionary genius.

  • Idol.

  • This guy's my hero

  • i like a good 7 human been soup myself.

  • It was probably automatically transcribed and captioned. You'll notice all the mistakes correspond with how he pronounces the word, e.g. "Automoviles" and "gard".

    "Human beens" is priceless, though.

  • Human beens = human beings.... come on lol. still thanx for the upload

  • oh the humanity! not human beens!

  • How come he can spell "undoubtedly", but not "beings"? This is hilarious. Great to have an Asimov video online though.

  • nice to see a video of asimov up on youtube..

    the subtitles are terrible though

  • Lmao Human beens...

  • A truly genius, a great visionaire

  • Who the hell transcribed this?

  • Human beens.

  • He is a great writer and a great person.

  • I for one welcome our new Human bean overlords.

  • Human beens?

  • Yeah, human beens, you see, they are like tiny little seeds.. once you put them into the ground and throw water, a human being is born, how do you think you came into this world? you should read more...

  • ha ha

  • who's the dumbass that put those subtitles in?? he's speaking english clearly, and the subs aren't even right half the time! retard.

  • My guess is that the subtitles were put in for the benefit of those for whom English is second language, by someone for whom this is also the case. At least, one hopes that whomever subbed this was not a native English speaker.

  • Isaac Asimov is great, but it amazes me that someone who looks and sounds so much like a rabbi could be an atheist

  • @breeeegs *chuckle*

You haven't known many rabbis. At least half of them are atheists.

  • I have actually known quite alot of rabbis. My grandfather happens to be one, and so is my great uncle. They are both wise men and they are both firm believers in their faith

  • so... how many languages other than english do you actually speak? And how many of them use a different alpahabet?.

Just be grateful to the person who posted the video instead of mocking him/her for a few spelling mistakes.

  • I absolutely adore his optimism. He saw computers as a chance to save us from monotonous though and leave us to creative thought. It's a bit sad that it's mostly just leaving us to idle thought...

  • The subtitles have very bad grammar and are wrong most of the time.

  • Yeah, don't know people are giving you the thumbs down for that. Very bad grammar!

  • asimow is my hero

  • a great human 'been'...lol

  • Im from argentina, this guy is Fucking god of sciencefiction, a superior mind

  • Asimov is my mentor, his mind brilliant, we have so much to learn from him still, I guess they just don't make 'em like that any more...

  • Agreed, I've learnt so much from this man's vision from reading his works.
