  • do they regularly work at victoria?

  • @bakedbeanishdragon No, they go from St. Pancras.

  • to all those bitching about high speed rail in other countries, have any of you actually used them? probably not. Most are on dedicated lines that cost billions to make, the Uk just doesn't have the space or the money for such projects atm.

  • because of power supply problems at higham earlier today highspeed services were diverted from rochester up to london victoria on the chatham line.

  • Two years later (after this video) and up north we still don't see anything of these. We get lumped with class 142's.

  • @nightw4tchman

However, Blackpool North- Preston, Preston- Manchester, Liverpool- Manchester are being electrified.

  • its dissapointing they only go 110

  • That sounded like the Jubilee Line's motor and Class 377/357 Electrostars.. It has that same engine but made by Hitachi.. Amazing Dual Voltage Japanese built British trains.. Thanks so much Japan..

  • but 140 is hardly high speed. German boxy locos have been doing that for over 30 years. They got them to do those speeds with older coaches after the Eschede ICE crash so that all the timetables stayed stable. High speed I consider to be 180+. Why we brits just kid ourselves all day long beats me. We should just upgrade our tracks and buy in TGVs and ICEs and just damn well get with it (and get rid of our separate hot and cold taps while we're about it). grrrr. UK is it our duty to lag behind?

  • Fuck you

  • the absolutely suitable answer from a jerk in baked beans on toast, 19th century twin taps pothole ridden 70mph, GBP only worth almost a euro (because the country is rated as such), ill insulated houses, still using cheques that clear after 5 days, lie, talk act and copy everything the yanks do land. You too mate. Enjoy.

  • @trident3bGo and live some other place then

  • @pomy1066 I do... left half a year ago. What a relief. Thx.

  • Actually no, a 73 is duel powered. They can run on 3rd rail or in diesel mode. The Javelins don't have diesel engines in them.

Also the Eurostars used to run as far as Leeds, with one or two test runs as far as Glasgow from King's Cross. The reason they no longer run on the ECML was to do with loading guage problems, not because they 'use too much electric'.

    Research research, research!

  • Actually after being reminded, it wasn't loading guage problems.

The Eurostars were a temporary 'replacement' for the Class 91 sets so that GNER (As it was then) could re-furbish it's Class 91 sets and still run a full service.

  • Can't wait to see footage of the Javlin doing 140MPH!

  • why in it useing its pantograph for the overhead power

  • Two simple reasons.

1: London Viccy has no overhead lines.

2: Javelin's are fitted as 'Dual Voltage'. Meaning they can draw power from either 25kV OHL, or 750V DC 3rd rail.

  • ok thanks m8.

  • basically a 73

  • good thing cause Hitachi plans (or already has) to build plants in UK, not to take up Jobs of British people...

  • dont trust em as far as i can spit em

  • great vid!!!! lovin these trains

  • 日立395シリーズは良いですね。日本のE3系新幹線のつばさ、こまちよりもカッコ良いです。

  • why dont uk by tgvs? i mean u already have eurostars almost same

we are right next door guys

    or buy alstom tilting trains

  • TGVs would be cool on our railway, but TGVs were designed for high speed only. These trains will be covering high speed and slow speed regional routes, so we need something small and suitable that can also fit on small local stations, which is why the UK prefers multiple unit trains rather than locomotive-driven trains. High Speed 1 is only 95 kilometres long compared to all of France's high speed network.

  • eurostars dont run any father north than peterborough because they use so much electric

  • awesome trains!! great catch 5*

  • the 395 units have great acceleration

  • They are beautiful trains, I cant wait until they enter service, I am going to try and be one of the first to ride them, even if they cost £68 return from Ebbsfleet.

    Thanks for Sharing. 5/5

  • cool train

  • why is it a t london victoria

  • Victoria is a Diversionary London Terminus.

  • The faster acceleration & lower top end (140mph rather than 186)still means that Ashford to St.Pancras can be done in 26 minutes. The 1 down side to "plug" doors is they do occasionally come off the runners which hopefully doesnt happen with "sliding" doors.

Unit 395001 (in this vid) doesnt have the Southeastern livery (only on unit 395002) which does look a touch better than the big white lettering down the side of unit 1.

  • they nearly got it with there front looks but no match with the class 375,377,350,444,170,171,222,180 and class 390 on good looks inside and out

thats why this country makes good lookin things like british aston martin dbs compared to french renault megan with a j-lo rear end

  • looks good on the front but the body side looks a mess

if they have similar look on the 390 then that would be perfect

  • I agree.

There was a lot of queries put forward to Hitachi, as to why the doors were not "plug in", as per norm these days.

It was actually the DfT whom ordered the incumbent spec - presuming that comuters would 'rush in or rush out' of these units far quicker than by having the former door types.

The gearing has also been adjusted to provide a quick acceleration - which has negated the top speed of 186mph to 140mph instead.

Networkers have "plug in" doors, so I find their reasoning odd.

  • As far as I could tell it was down to speed and reliability of the doors closing to help reduce train standing times.. can you imagine plug types on the London Underground??? In fact, I would also criticise the 313 replacements on the Overground lines if plug type doors were used here, especially for the North London line.

  • most annoying thing is the removal of the cannon street to ramsgate service via medway. WHY? basically people who work in london bridge and cannon street are being sent to st pancras but in doing so have to use the tube. as it is kings cross st pancras is overcrowded in rush hour and is regularly shut for safety reasons. the reduction in journey time on national rail can only be about 10-15 mins max for medway passengers, which we be cancelled out by possible 1/2 hour and 40 minute tube journeys

  • What about Ashford International? If you catch the Javelin there you'll join HS1 as soon as you're out of the station.

As I understand it, the biggest time reductions will be available to those who travel via Ashford. I agree with you on the relatively limited time reductions for Medway passengers though.

  • As stated earlier, Gravesend has the largest reduction, followed by Ashford, Folkestone West, Folkestone Central and Canterbury West.

  • They are certainly very attractive units, however, only a handful of destinations shall truly have a sharp journey time reduction to/from London St Pancras - none more so than Gravesend 24 mins instead of 52mins to Charing Cross.

The route between Faversham and Gravesend is not fast at all, hence Chatham (for example), shall only have a negliable journey time reduction to/from London St Pancras.

  • suprised there aren't a load more video clips on here today...the 395 was out for 8 hours in daylight yesterday & was filmed & photographed from every conceivable location possible.

  • couple of good pics in railway herald (online) and only 24 hours after the units daytime run :o)

  • Yay great vid. We saw our first one on the medway bg lastnight. They look great..

  • Do these trains tilt?

  • No the 395 does not tilt...

Its remarkably quiet & smooth at 140mph.

Eurostars use the HS1 route & dont tilt either.

  • There's no need for these trains to tilt because the corners on High Speed 1 aren't necessarily tight like the ones on the West Coast Mainline. And as FastandBluesaid, Eurostars don't tilt either.

  • in the not too distant future it will be daytime running, its been to Ramsgate in daylight & testing around 2000 hrs, But im sure daylight will provide better camera shots.I am so amazed it wasnt fimed (albeit at nite) when it tested side by side with Eurostar 373 the 2 side by side at 140mph would have been magical.

  • Nice video

  • the future of high speed domestic rail travel - but still stuck to the 30mph limit around clapham lol

  • none of the services by the Cl 395 will touch Clapham anyway, they will go into St Pancras High Level and Victoria via Wandsworth road.

  • Awesome video! Victoria is ideal being well lit. I managed to film it back in April one night during initial testing - they're well smart aren't they!

  • great vid - thanks for sharing

  • That is some quite acceleration...

  • Well I had my doubts, but this is definitely ace!

  • Glad you got this, I heard it was running

  • wow u are one lucky person i want to see a javelin

  • Its running again this week you know

  • Whens it running? What sort of times and where? I'd love to see one of these =D

    Cool video :)

  • A few runnings, but because im not from your area I dont know these locations such as Wennington and Westenhanger or wherever, but heres on working for this Friday- 5Z92 21:20 departure from London St Pancras Intl-Folkestone East. If you go for it, you must promise you get a video and upload it you hear? lol

  • At that time of night, and in those locations, I won't be able to see. Shame, but I'm sure I'll catch them some other time =P

  • not via tonbridge i dont think

  • Dont think so.
