Thanks for some lovely memories...I spent all my childhood and teens in the park- shame it didn't show how it was before it became sanitized- the old black metal fences about 18" high round the lake, the Guiness Clock and..I think it was called a Lumascope-it was at the end of the fountains and was scaffolding with different patterns of lights on it- perhaps somebody can help on this? Anyway, thanks for a lovely video, I wish I'd taken more pics from 1958 till 1976 when it was a proper park.
I remember going to the fair at Battersea with a mate of mine in the late sixties. We were both about 11 and we raided our savings and took a fiver each.It seemed to last all day but I guess that was a decent amount of money then but worth every old penny! lol
The two things nobody seems to have filmed in the old Battersea Park, is the tree walk, which ran along in front of the fair, but up in the trees, and the old Guinness clock. I grew up just down the road from the park and spent hours there in my teens. I was even a regular at the bikers pie stall by the bridge for years.
There is another video on here which does show the Tree Walk-Battersea Funfair.wmv by mickhymans. The cashier was at the front of the entrance, with only a tiny fence behind and a wooden structure shielding you- there was a lot of tanners avoided in payment by the local Herberts! lol
cool vid... botton bro's dodgems.. views of the park... but..? harry grays track? fkkin wow! wot a ride..it was noisey.. and usually attracted a lot of teds in it days..... certainly the bikers [chelsea bridge set] would be around this machine for the sheer thrill of the noise... and the music.... i remember old harry [to me,at 15] in 73' and harry slightly older.... sat in his pay box... watchin the cars go by..counting the ride playin some rock through the panatrope. he always smiled
Great to see this. It's my home town.

Was raised in Battersea. Went to Battersea county from 1974 - 1979. Spent many hours swimming in that pool. Happy days :)

Really enjoyed that you managed to recreate the Battersea I lived in as a child and captured it just as it is now. Thank you.

What have they done to the Granada and when did Arding and Hobbs become Debenhams ?. Shameful. This wouldn't have happened if I hadn't moved away.
