these guys will flip ya for real. they shoulda just went to the bbc. if they got caught up with mansfield, imagine where aphex twin woulda been, amirite?
It's so good to hear excellent musicians doing what they do best.Especially with the audio from the laptop jacked into a Crown D 150 power amp running a pair of vintage Fisher XP-10's.REAL HI Fidelity is captivating.Remember,"NEVER BUY PLASTIC HI FI".
@FuyuAkiWorld You're not being an asshat. Original albums (and sometimes, cassettes) used to be more specific about subtitles and the like. The more time went on, the less people cared.
Good example would be Black Sabbath "Master Of Reality". Find an original copy (first pressing) and see how many more 'titles' there are, compared to what's on the CD.
Of course, there are better examples....but, that's just off the top of my head.
I kinda miss this era of songs that took up entire albums. There were gems like 2112, Thick As A Brick, Tarkus, and so many more. There are a couple bands that tried this more recently, Dream Theater comes to mind with Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, but it just doesn't feel as well executed or seamless. Maybe has something to do with the format of music back then, and how tempting it was to do an entire recording for a single record, even if it is technically split into 7 parts.
@MrBrightSideOfLife The Whirlwind by Transatlantic is a modern prog rock song clocking in at nearly 78 minutes. It's very well executed, and nearly seamless since it got split into 12 tracks. Transatlantic also has a lot of 20-30 minure songs on their album Bridge Across Forever.
@MrBrightSideOfLife Any of Dream Theater's other epics have better continuity. I almost don't recognize six degrees as one song because it begins to feel disconnected. Try Octavarium, In the Presence of Enemies, or A Change of Seasons.
@moviemaster8510 I actually listened to this song while I exercised on my bike every day, and yes, going very fast during that part is a most spectacular rush!
This was the glory days of side-long concept albums...... and people deep enough to listen....

ELP's influence on Nobuo Uematsu is very evident in the SNES RPG, Chrono Trigger. Search for "Boss Battle: Chrono Trigger Music" in youtube.

Looming large and mighty, Tarkus (and ALL ELP music) is to pop music what the great pyramid is to, say, a shabby trailer.

Don't mean to be an asshat, but Tarkus isn't a medley, it's a single song made up of several sections.

@FuyuAkiWorld Not offended at all, actually. I agree, but that's what it was called in the CD booklet. :P

@TAWhirlwind Nice job! Love this album. Carl Palmer is a machine, but showed some soul also on this album.

@moviemaster8510 I should try that sometime. I've done it before - just not with Manticore blasting in my ears. Heh.
