  • phil may looks like ozzy on early sabbath

  • So the first time I listened to this. I had chills running up my spine. The Sound its just brilliant!

  • For more great footage from this period, have a gander at the film 'What's good for the Goose',(see what I did there?).Norman Wisdom & the lovely Sally Geeson wigging-out to Electric Banana at a basement Psych club.

    Zeitgeist on toast!

  • Recorded in 1967 released in 1968.

  • This is a mimed rendition of their song "Death" from the S.F. Sorrow album

  • morose crud - they were capable of much much better

  • @funkmasterjee It has to be listened with the rest of the album for it to make sense.

  • 1969 was the fucking YEAR MAN!!!

  • This looks like it's from the French TV show "Tous en scene"

  • The lead singer looks like a cross between early Ozzy and Dave Davies.

  • Wow, this is when they had John "Twink" Alder on drums

  • Death - The Pretty Things [England] - 1968 - "One of my BEST. WEIRD but beautiful Psychedelic beat, story." - The Psychedelic Years (Snapper Disc 1)-2001.

  • Those who know love THE PRETTY THINGS

  • fantastic....

  • Beautiful

  • EMI murdered S.F Sorrow!Still the legacy lives on!

  • 1969, les Pretty Things au "Ram Dam" à Dourges, c'est resté dans toutes les mémoires.

  • Isn't there a clip of Led Zeppelin playing in this same place around the same time?

  • i love this because it is simple hippie punk ideology to me..i love hippies and i love people..i love people who sings stuffs like this..this is my heart..salute!

  • was this filmed in Quebec or France?

  • It was filmed in France.

The accent at the begenning doesn't lie! ;)

  • Just got "S.F. Sorrow." Friggin' brilliant album! Such a shame that this didn't go down in time like "Pepper" or "Piper" by Floyd. Then again, "Piper" might not have done what it did had it not been for Floyd's later success. That album could have been an obscurity as well!

  • I know! I just found these guys by fluke. SF Sorrow is a really great album. So many good songs and cool textures. If it was recorded when wiki says it was recorded it was definately ahead of it's time by a couple years at least.

  • I agree. While I like the Who's Tommy, S.F. Sorrow is better (in my book) and it was first. I think the Who got their inspiration from Sorrow and The Attack's Mr. Pinodmy's Dilema (just listen to that one!). Anyway, glad to see others digging this fantastic band.

  • Rare Stuff...but a llip synch...no sitar for a start and no key boards...but the Pretties never could reproduce this album live...its impossible...i..too many instrumments...not enough players

  • @captainsoul1953 Though they successfully reproduced it live many years later of course (check out the 1998 album & DVD!).

  • The Sitar was giving from the Beatles

  • Love me some Phil May......Oh,yea.

  • brilliant upload, thanks for this

  • Awesome!! love this album - would give my left nut to have been at this show, thank you for posting this. very rare to see footage of S.F. Sorrow material.

  • Twink did a really cool album on Sire called "Think Pink" a masterpiece!

  • Twink also joined Syd Barrett in a group called the stars, although no known footage exists of this ill manover..

  • Think Twink also joined up with the Edgar Broughton Band for a short time. Rock on the Pretty Things, one of the best bands ever.

  • pure diamond

  • MAGNIFIQUE!!! if I didn't spell it right, sue me.....

  • Hi, you mention Twink. Is this the same Twink of Pink Fairies?

  • Merci!

A lovely song, such somber sounds. God bless the Pretty's!

  • It looks like playback.

  • Where's the original sound from the show? lol

  • French TV. Same stage where Led Zeppelin performed (double DVD).

  • The pritty zings...great.

  • The Song is called "Death" but S.F. Sorrow was on their 4th album. There is a new live recording of that song on the CD

"Ressurection" and there is also a DVD from that live show.

The band is performing in March/April in Germany.

  • Fantastic!!! I love S.F. Sorrow, but his actually sounds better than the LP version. Phils vocals are sublime..magic stuff

  • Could imagine it as a good backing track to a film.

  • the spng is called "death" from their first album "S.F. Sorrow"

  • S.F Sorrow was far from their first album. Their first album was called The Pretty Things. S.F Sorrow was their fourth studio album. Sorry for being a know it all, but I love the pretties, so these things are important..sad I know, but true..

  • tune!

  • What happened to TWINK after this? Spontaneous combustion?

  • Nuhnuh,Bat....he began to think pink ☺♫

  • Fantastic footage, too bad that they mime to the record,I think this comes from tout en scenes...Looking forward to hearing this performed live @ shepherds bush in January 2009

  • fuck soooooooo amazing!!!!

  • Magical as only the Pretty Things could be!

I think this is from 1968, the year SF SORROW was released, also you can see TWINK on drums and he never lasted that long...maybe he was still there by early 1969...

thank you soooo much for this!

  • This is a lost gem. Wow!

  • The song is called "Death."

  • * * * * * Five GOLD asterisks!!!

  • i'm reminded that ozzy was watching and taking notes, watching phil may....

  • Death.

    and it's bloody brilliant.

  • video footage of s.f. sorrow material...yaaaay! can't believe it!

  • SF Sorrow- What a great underrated album from the equally great underrated Pretty Things!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's really cool to see SF Sorrow-era video of the Pretties (even though lip-synched I'll take it!)

Beyondthebeat, you always get the coolest stuff!!!!

Thanks millions for posting this! ;)

  • excellent find!! thanks for sharing - you really are aMaZing!

  • most excellent!!!

  • wow I never expected to see stuff of theirs from the sf.s lp on video..

  • ♫Leave it to BTB,to come up with

    another gem ♣

    ByTheWay....this is track 6:Death,

    from S.F.$☻RR☻W

  • "Allez, vite, vite, vite!"

"Voici maintenant un groupe fabuleux qui nous vient tout droit de Londres: les Pretty zings!"

The song is entitled "Death" and is part of the classic album "S. F. Sorrow", the first concept album issued a couple of months before The Who's Tommy and the Kinks'Arthur, all three masterpieces of rock.

Buy your copy on the German Répertoire label for the fabulous sound.

  • YES! SF SORROW forEVER!
