I did NOT know that Flip was Gary Paxton, also of the Hollywood Argyles (of Ally Oop fame). I took me mearly 50 years to find this. Man, I love the Internet,
Gary Sanford Paxton (Flip) went on to be involved in producing several big hit records during the 1960s, including #1 hits like "Alley-Oop" (1960, performing with the Hollywood Argyles), "Monster Mash" (1962, by Bobby "Boris" Pickett on his GarPax label) and "Cherish" (1966, by the Association), plus others.
I have this on a 45 and couldn't believe the great harmonization these two had which is brought out in "stereo" and missed on the 45...really sounds great on headphones...ya' don't hear this harmonization anymore.
I remember being home from 6th grade sick with tonsillitis in June ' 59 and this song was on WINS in New York. It sounds great in stereo with headphones and yes, Gary Paxton (Flip) recorded Alley-Oop as the Hollywood Argyles in 1960.
Hi again. I have thias classsic in my large record collection which is now unreachable in the back of the carport. It's on the brent label as well but is in mono..like they all were back when, Anyway I bought this one along with a hundred or more at a 2nd hand store, which was convenietly located near my paper route. They were jukebox records and every so often I 'd pop in and pick up on a few for 25 cents or 5 for a dollar. Thanks again for helping me out with my record collection. lol
If you don't have your headphones on for this one, your missing out on someting. Believe me, try this classic fri=om the doowop era then try connie Francis on for size, with her "Lipstick on Your Collar". A hello & thankyou from vancouver Canada, & "It Was I", that takes te credit for the positive comment & send off.
