  • There's no main gear down and locked - just the tail wheel.

  • the u-2 is one of the hardest planes to land they need a chase car with a radio telling them were to go

  • I can't see the Hawaians dolls dancing off the aircraft ?!!!

  • I love how they spray the plane with foam when the canopy is open so the cockpit gets sprayed with foam also

  • Gayest music ever.

  • There goes 10 bucks

  • LOL, they start spraying the plane while the rescue guy is still standing in the way..."Hey, are you okay? Let's get the hell....AUUUGH! YOU BASTARDS!" =) I've read about this incident before, but I forget what happened here. I'll have to look it up again. And I wonder when they went from chasing with F-104's to chasing with cars?

  • @justforever96 "I wonder hen they went from chasing with F-104's to chasing with cars ?".

The car contains a crew that assist the pilot through UHF, giving additional information relating to the landing. This has never been done with F-104's, and in fact it would be nonsense to do so as a ground based vehicle has a clearer view.

I don't know where you get your information from - maybe you "looked it up", just like you knew what the crash was all about but forget and have to look that up too.

  • @kbdkbd99 SO...what exactly is your problem? I asked a simple question. I never acted like I knew everything about the U-2. I was wrong about the F-104; it was a video of the X-15 landing that I was thinking of. So I don't see where you get this attitude like I'm trying to sound like an expert or something; I stated no facts. I asked a stupid question. I said that I had once read something about a U2 gear-up incident, which is true. If something interests me, I look it up. Is that okay with you?

  • @justforever96 chill out dude - you say that you only asked a question - but by claiming that, you're being intellectually dishonest - because inside of that question you placed a fact. You clearly made the proposition that the F-104 was replaced as a chase vehicle with a car. You're proposition was incorrect.

If you don't like getting called on such innacuracies - then don't make then in the first place.

  • @kbdkbd99 I wouldn't have minded or argued in the least if you hadn't added the snide bit about "or did you 'look that up too'". That's the difference. Correct me if you want; I like to know the real facts. But there's no need to be rude.

  • @justforever96 ok fair enough.

  • Why woud you put "U2 Crash?" as title it is pretty obvious it was they dont shoot a perfectly good plane with foam for no reason.

  • Why would someone select this music for ANYTHING? Pathetic.

  • Your all mistaken, you see, being lower makes it stealthier, duh!

  • 0:22 what a winglex xD

  • Oh well, any landing you can walk away from :)

  • the plane has no side gears and it is diffucult to see so this isn't that bad

  • no nose gear...belly landing

  • I remember when i was at Beale i saw one crash on landing.... what a mess it was an the col that was in it died ..bad day that was

  • Pilots of Black Cats Squadron in Republic of China (Taiwan) also flew U-2 over China for CIA missions. Betwen 1961 and 1974, total of 122 missions were flown, and more than 30 were over China. Four U-2 aircrafts were shot down. 10 pilots died during training or recon missions. Two were captured and kept in China for over 20 years.

  • I wonder who the pilot was, its not easy to land back tire first, normal landings will always land main gear first. Glad i wasn't there to go through that aircraft mishap inspection.

  • @Pond81 Incorrect on always landing mains first. If you land the U-2 main first, it has a nasty tendancy of bouncing and porpoising. Ask any pilot flying them and they will tell you that you wanted to pull the nose, stall just as the tail wheels hit, then rotate to the mains. Yes, I worked U-2s in case you were wondering.

  • no ?! its only a hard landing with just one gear..what do you mean with muslims ?

  • main gear failure clearly, hopefully it wasnt a lot of damage

  • It's not a U2, it's a TR-1

  • It's a U-2R. There are no TR-1s annymore. Only models made in the 80's were called TR-1s and their designations were changed so that all are U-2s. All have since been modified to the U-2S desination using the GE engine. Former crew chief from 94-98.

  • because the u2 has such skinny wings it has no landing gear in th wings so instead it has skid plates on the bottom of the wing and when it stops people walk up and put wheels under it

  • actually you have half of it right it has two landing gear not on the wings when landing, taking off it has four, the two that are on the wings fall off.

  • I wonder what tail number that plane was..

    78 91 or 90. :)

Looks like Beale AFB doing touch and go around the flagpole...

    Former U-2 Crew Chief 99RS 1994-1999.

  • This may be the U2 that was practising Touch n Go testes. For the test the Landing Gear alarm was disabled so as not to distract the pilot during the test. The pilot forgot about that when coming in to land.

  • U2's land with chase cars to talk them down, and the tail wheel is visibly extended.

I'd more guess its a hydraulic failure or the door to the main gear got stuck somehow.

  • I believe this is my old plane 1080. It was repaired and back flying before I was chief of it. You can clearly see the tail gear down so the main gear must have got stuck. Dawg

  • The central landing gear was no extended

  • ouch dang

  • Was stationed at Beale from '93 to '94 and actually lost one on take off, straight up, straight down, right before Christmas.

  • at least the tail did not fall off like in 1984

  • That is Beale. I was stationed there as a U-2 crew chief in 1988 and 1989. I believe this is aircraft tail # 80-1080 which did a nose dive in 1988 when I was stationed there. She was repaired and flying again in a few months. As far as I can remember no reason was ever found as to why the main gear failed to extend during emergency extension after the hydraulic failure.

  • I dont think its that great of an idea to put a U.S. Aircrafts tail number on you tube. OPSEC!!!!!

  • Then we need to remove the tail #'s from all the books on the U-2 and all the pictures floating around. The tail #'s are not classified.

  • ya thats the crash pictured here the pilot was a guy named Rob Roe he did a beautiful job landing the plane with just the tail gear

  • @fordfan4life1961 Rob "SKID" Rowe. yes he did an amazing job

  • True man, i have done an OPSEC course and they say to you, it can affect people lives if you leak info.

  • So i take it this happens alot?

  • No this does not happen a lot. MLG failure is not common for the U2.

  • Thats why only the #1 pilots get to pilot these U2's. Nice Save,Yes, Looks like Beale

  • i doubt that is the U2, the U2 were shot down and the pilot were taken as a hostage at the soviet squad

  • You're an idiot.. =D

  • You realize there is more than one of these aircraft in operation right? Dumbass.

  • there is more than one U-2

  • he is right, there was only one U2, and it was shot down in russia. this one is actually a scapegoat the muslims created to put blame on us Americans.

  • Nose gear failed to lower. Pilot landed on rear wheel and kept the nose off the runway as long as possible. Nobody hurt, minimum damage to aircraft, end of story.

  • cringe cringe cringe, gritting teeth, ouch ouch ow! i cant watch this, that looks like beale to cringe!!!

  • nice

  • damnit
