solution compare 20 year old mariah to leona and not 40 year old mariah! wish you all would stop searching for ''the next mariah carey '' because such doesn't exist! besides leona's stuff is all ''heavy'' studio & audio-tuned. and mariah's music has much more creativity and it's not flat ... everytime i listen to a mariah song i hear something different!

@luvableonme Really you have obviously never seen any videos of Leona Live, she can hit all her high notes (most of the time better than in studio) and These are songs from when mariah first started i believe so you can't really say about age , also if it was age surely mariah would win ,but to me she doesn't :P Look look up Leona live and then you can be quite

i disagree with u....leonas head vocie is the best now...thats a fact...leonas vocal coach has also stated that leona has a 4 octave range...wen she was 15 she hit whistles so i think we have yet to see leoans full range im just sayin some ppl prefer more subtlety - hint mariah

@mariahcareynum1fan im guessing mariah's instrument was formed to whistle like that. i like leona's belted notes more though. especially now leona has gotten better and well mariah lost her voice. she wants leona to play her in a movie? good choice but i dont think mariah's life is interesting enough to be filmed. i mean i think she's a better singer than whitney but whitney's life is crazy enough for people to be interested. this needs more views btw ur a mariah fan but you are not biased.

Yeah, a Whitney movie would be great! I like Leona, I just think she need to change it up(in head voice), but I don't like her belts at all. Oh thanks to you last statement!

Remember ya'll!!Mariah came out and recorded those songs at a time where they were still recording to tape (Analog) So im not sure if this is a fair comparison to see who is better between the two. Notice the warm sounds of MC's recordings and then listen to the Crisp recordings of Leona Lewis's recording and mixed down to digital.She's gonna almost sound always better. MC has Great range but because of her RASPY voice she is recorded in analog to make her sound warmer!

Leona Is just an incredible singer that doesnt OVER USE whistle register like mariah does hence her songs r more enjoyable and not as annoying :)

I don't think her head voice is amazing. There's no denying she is one of the best pop singers ever, rivalling Whitney and Celine, but every singer has a weakness, and this is hers.

She obviously can reach those notes, I'm not debating her range or the flexibility, but the quality of tone is mediocre at best. She knows this, so it stands to reason why it's used less.

Mariah's head voice is the weakest part of her range (It's the opposite with Leona).

An artist like Mariah would have a fair understanding of her strengths and weaknessess - so it comes to no surprise that compared to other aspects of her range, there are relatively few examples of her head voice on record. When it is used, it's usually layered and mixed, or effects are added.

Mariah has an amazing head voice which is extremely agile, fluid, flexible with varied textured and interesting tones. She can sing in head voice for much longer than most singers. Shes completely comfortable there. She uses it all the time it's just she doesn't use the upper part of her head register as much as some others but she has sang songs almost entirely in head voice and falsetto before for example 'fourth of july' there is no weak part to mariahs voice its consistent throughout

@bconsitt Yeh i always feel like mariah sings in falsetto moe than she does head voice and while she uses it often its not always the high end of it she used she uses it alot in the 5th octave but live doesnt really showcase her range in it. Yeh i do love how mariah manipulates her textures she can sound fuller like on the beautiful ones or she can sounds really airy and sweet like on its a wrap the u make me wanna one is amazing i love the falsetto runs in the all i want for christmas remix too

Mariah definitely has more skill there shes more fluid and agile but i think Leona has great movement through her head voice too and a beautiful vibrato. I think leona has the better tone though

i don't think Mariah really likes head voice that much. Her's sounds a bit too weak and airy for my liking.

Leona's is better though. I would say she's in the top 3. Whitney Leona and maybe Patti.

I fell like Leona and Mariah sing in falsetto more than they do actual head voice. But Leonas upper range is anything but boring. I dont get in what way people find it boring. She does just as much with it as anyone else. Its beautiful and thick and angelic the most beautiful tone iv ever heard. Mariah is the most agile flexible varied head voice iv ever heard though. I love both but i think Leona wins by a small bit.

It was weird because from E5-G5 Mariah was winning then when the A5-D6 came Leona came back.

Mariah has so much more control in her lower falsetto notes but as she gets higher its like her voice just wants to change to her whistle register, but i like it because it gives Mariah a sweeter sound than Leona's thicker falsetto, but Leona does have her moments in her falsetto register though
