Love the complexity of all this. Jock created JR but didn't really like him. He loved Bobby but thought he was too soft. Oh the 80s; they were such simpler times. Yeah, I know this is the late 70s, but the 80s were starting. We hated Carter and Ronnie was coming to the rescue. Hope the teens can be the new 80s to replace the new 70s! Yeah, you know what I mean.
The quality of this is AWFUL! Barely can understand a word of it. And than the text running all over the image. Had nothing of better quality? How is someone able to watch this?
As much as an SOB JR was in one sense you couldn't help but feel sorry for him. Jock loved Bobby more than "Him". Remember when they survived the Plane Crash, Jock gave Bobby a bigger hug than JR and in one of the Old School Dallas Books, JR at Twelve tried to show his "Daddy" how brave he was by trying to ride a Bronco even though it was dangerous. He got hollered at big time and JR never felt that he had his Daddy's "Unconditional" Love.
Why does it say remove this nag for $29.95. For $29.95, you could go out and buy the whole season on dvd in the stores. Why would you want to pay $29.95 to watch it on youtube?
You know the scene where Bobby said that "Mama don't like Business Talk when there's Supper waiting on the Table" reminds me of The Godfather where Sonny Corleone is a bundle of Contradictions. He talks about the Boys Of Harlem making big money off of betting and when Carlo (Connie's Husband) asks if he could talk to Sonny after Dinner, Sonny says "We don't talk Business at the Table."
I think that JR in his own way "resented" the fact that Bobby had Jock's love "unconditionally", where JR felt that Jock dangled it in front of him, like a piece of raw meat in front of a starving dog.
More likely, J.R. was jealous that Bobby had such a good idea marrying Pam because it was a threat in that at any time, Bobby could take Ewing Oil info to Barnes. However if JR had married or slept with Pam, he could have used said threat of someone taking info to the competitor as leverage against the board at Ewing Oil to keep himself on as head chairman. Call it blackmail or what you will but JR didn't say who would take the info to Barnes. Jock knew JR was a better friend than enemy.
That was a very heavy and brilliant analysis. When I watched Dallas, I was more interested in the relationship with Bobby & JR, more than Ewing Oil itself. I can understand JR's resentment though. Unlike Bobby, JR lived, ate, breathed, drank, and slept Ewing Oil, and while Bobby was out on the road partying and living it up, JR had to answer to Jock and he confided to Bobby about how difficult Jock was to work for.
Ah yeah, always but JR knew to let Bobby know just what he needed to. Bobby was a boy scout looking to save the world and obviously trusted people going by who he married. JR however had to learn the ropes on the job being a prototype Ewing heir and as the oldest had to likewise be responsible. It's a hard thing to learn your father is only human while you're taking out the trash of whose giggling behind his back. JR gave Jock the break to make Bobby his favorite and prolly wanted a lookout.
You're so right about that. There were two people that were untrustworthy and JR saw it when nobody else did. I don't remember his name but he was a thief and of course Lucy's former fiancee Alan Beam.
Thank you very much. It sorta goes back to what JR always said about you have to know what goes with the job description. Some people like Bobby, it would shatter them to think the world is not all sunshine and rainbows unless they walked in from out of town and had time to take things in with a fresh set of eyes. The benefit JR had was that he got to gradually see things through Jock while growing up. JR was the take your kid to work guy while Bobby got football, dating boss's daughter tips.
I love it when Jock calls JR...you jack ass! It was so fitting. Later for the 29.99 to remove the runnng noise. Some ole dummy will go to the site and pay 29.99 instead of ordering the Dallas season flicks and get the whole episode/w out commericals or running noise. Nice clip though.
Hard to believe that the mansion in first few episodes burned to the ground in 87
