    I was concerned about your liberty 8 years before this report even came out.

    I was anti Patriot Act from the beginning & a lot of people who are whining about this were For it. Doesn't matter if Homeland Security says that Arab Americans are a threat, or the KKK, or Clowns. If they can monitor them, they can monitor you and they don't even have to declare you a threat anyway.

  • I really think the Homeland Security thing was taken out of context. I read it. What it seemed to me is that they were saying, people who feel to the EXTREME about those issues are dangerous. Not the actual people who feel that way. Ultra-right groups ARE dangerous. In Russia people are attacking touring foreigners.

It is not that I oppose big spending and new social welfare program, but I do oppose the premise that someone that might be conservative on abortion, be pro-guns, or resent excessive taxation as a "right-wing extremists" by the federal government.   • This is a bit odd how suddenly huge these things got. I was at a tax day protest last year which was organized by Restore the Republic and various Ron Paul meetups. Only about 20 or so went to the one in Pittsburgh. I just attended a Tea Party last Saturday and there was like 2000 people there. I wish I had brought more 'Fiat Empire' DVDs. It is an opportunity to spread the word about the fraudulant Fed and HR 1207 but we need to beware of those who want to co-opt the freedom movement.

  • Goldwater was speaking to the threat of communist domination and how to stop it. He favored field level authority for nuclear arms as one example. He was not referring to toppling the US government or assassinating the President, as right wing extremists have proposed.

  • The way the mainstream media slammed all these tea parties was disgraceful. A truly sad day for journalism. These protests were absolutely newsworthy, but hardly any of the liberal media outlets covered them. They just brushed them aside as if opposition to Obama's big gov't behavior is "loony" or "extremist". They pretend that Obama has unanimous support when that's just not true.

    Tell me, what does Obama have that Ron Paul doesn't? Charisma? More eloquence? That's about it.

The report shows no evidence that militia or survivalist activity is "on the rise" in a huge way.     I've watched a good deal of coverage of this by both YouTube Paulites and of course the news outlets & seen plenty of stimulus signs, maybe one or two Fed signs, and absolutely zero about the Patriot Act or the Bush Doctrine. I don't think 90% of the people there even knew who Ron Paul was.. It would've been a beautiful thing had it been grassroots

  • I read through this report and I have to say that I was literally sick to my stomach after reading it. I was a straight line republican until the last election. I voted for Ronny in 80, 84. Bush #1 in 88, 92. And Dole in 96. Yes, I even voted for Bush #2 twice (please don't stone me, I've repented). I now consider myself a conservative libertarian. Due mostly to a study and better understanding of the constitution and it's framer's intent.

    The only thing that happened here is the normal GOP Fox News machine completely putting the nails in the coffin of the Ron Paul revolution and reconverting all the Federal Reserve Issue voters back to the Neo-Con base voting block.

  • Just who is paying for the majority of this movement? Someone has to be footing the organizational bill. I find it difficult to believe ALL of them are funded through grass roots movements.

    Call me cynical, but any chance well-heeled backers are behind some of it? If there is, they naturally have an agenda of their own.

  • It's hardly grass roots at all. A lot of the tea & other expenditures were paid for by Right wing think tanks which in turn recieved donations from large corporations (I think one of them was even an Oil company but research it to make sure) and rich donors who are afraid of their taxes going up. Everyone's noticed the Fox News angle but they seem to be missing that important part... They call it astroturf for a reason.

  • You know I really don't care if it's grass roots or astroturf. All I care about is that the people are finaly standing up to the Govt. If McCain would have won I'm sure alot of these people wouldn't be out there. I don't care; I'm just happy to see the people stand up.

  • It is a concern. I would say by attending the rallies however and passing out our literature, the possibility to turn more people on to our causes are far more realistic. We would have done these Tea Parties regardless if they were being sponsored by these groups. I think we are ultimately responsible for framing the events in a libertarian light. Don't let the GOP fool these people into the same old shit.

  • It isn't grass roots. Not in the slightest. Those tea parties are a neocon movement to get back their power of oppression. I hold nothing against their message, just that nobody that was there believed in what they were saying. Those tea parties are frauds and a disgrace to liberty.
