@AustralianHPfan It's compared to drugs because it has a similar... but pretty mild.... effect on cats. Sort of a "stoner high", is what it tends to look like. Not all cats are affected by it though.

It's not an unhealthy thing for them, so there's alot of catnip-related products out there; toys with the stuff in it, different types of treats, whatever.

Giving a cat too much can make them aggressive though.
