Google "stumped off a no ball" and you'll find it out..
Think about it.. If a spinner has bowled a no ball, the batsman would wanna come down the track and hit him for a six cuz he won't have the fear of getting out. (provided he's heard the call).
I THINK HE SHOULD OPF BEEN CHARGED WITH BRINGING THE GAME INTO DISREPUTE FOR HITTING THAT BALL VERY VERY UNSPORTING BUT HE IS AN AUSSIE AND THERE NOT THE FAIREST SPORTS PEOPLE ARE THEY
@DAJAZDJ1 ...lets get this all into perspective. Australia has kicked Englands butt over the last 20 years in cricket with a slight bump in performance lately (we wont mention Englands woeful ODI record either). Yes Ponting has lost the Ashes 3 times but why dont you compare how many times he has also won as a captain? England dont have gutsy captains who can take the hard times and the good times. They simply dont last that long.
One of the most basic things about batting is you hit the bad deliveries. And I can't imagine a worse delivery than this. There's nothing unfair or cheap about that shot.
USMAN, are you a US Man, or Usman? If the former I could perhaps understand your ignorance of the laws. Look them up. Why on earth would it be a dead ball?
No, he'd have been out. Had he left it, it would have been called wide. As it was, he chose to hit it below the height for a no ball, given Simmon's gentle pace, so he made it legal.
Really that was 1 more instance of unfair cricket,,,.If that ball might have faced 4m the players of SA or IND ..They shld hav considered it a dead ball and left it alone...Spirutual players
@MrSethanjvps who cares...it's a bit of enjoyment, he had every right to do that. The crowd enjoyed it certainly, and they were West Indian supporters. And please don't pretend Indian cricket players are decent human beings (most of them) "spiritual" indeed hahaha
@MrSethanjvps btw just to clarify I was referring to players like Ganguly, Harbhajan, Sreesanth etc as being indecent...guys like Dravid, Dhoni etc are very likeable indeed
@MrSethanjvps It's up to the umpire to decide whether the ball can be considered dead or not and about awarding the runs. The batsman can even hit a declared dead ball, anywhere he likes.(The runs won't be awarded though.)
Nothing unfair about it.It was just meant for fun.
Also remember Border having a ball come to rest on the ground before it reached him. The bowler went to pick it up but Border stopped him and asked the umpire, who told the bowler to back away and gave Border the free hit, which he dispatched for 4 . Perfectly legal and totally within the laws of the game! Also this wouldn't have been too difficult to hit for six, remember Border was a baseballer growing up. Well done champ...always thinking at the crease!
@ewhi1 that's just the laws of cricket: it's a present to the batsman and he took it. Completely OK. Fantastic Border, and with his side on style, really funny too
A lot of people have asked me if there is a vid of AB hitting a lady in the crowd on the head, Ive never seen one, I read about it in David Boon's book, if there was a vid I would like to see it too
@TheAnticonspiracy No, the umpires would play the rules, as you see the umpire doesn't signal, meaning that the ball is still legal when it was hit, and so therefore the catch would stand, and Border would look rather stupid
That was bad sportsmanship by Border. You can see it was a bowler mistake. A true sportsman would either let it become a dead ball or let it become a wide.
@fanirama Bullshit. Mistakes are punished in top level sport. This was from either the 4th or 5th ODI match from the 1991 tour of West Indies by Australia. During the test series Dean Jones was run out on a no-ball even though he was walking off because he didnt hear the call of no-ball.IT was clear he was not attempting a run and mistakingly walked but the West Indian players claimed the run out anyway even though later some admitted they knew he wasnt out.
I'm not sure how many times that bounced but the relevant law is a noball shall be called if the ball not having previously touched the striker or his bat bounces twice, rolls along the ground or comes to rest in front of the strikers wicket (law 24, 6&7). But that is since the latest rewrite of the laws in 2000, this clip I believe is from 1991 (in the carribean) I believe I've read about that exact incident in Allan Border's autobiograpghy, so that post 2000 law was not in force then. cheers
its not a wide because he hit it but is still a no ball for bouncing twice in front of the batting crease i rememba mcmillan try 2 do the same thing he hit it straight 2 a fielder and nearly got run out lol
So you think you can't be caught off a wide ball then - go and read the rules. It's not a wide if he hits it anyway. Border swacked it because it was a gimme - would have been funny if he'd missed it and got run out though!
WRONG - see Bernie's recent post (thanks Bernie), under the old rules if the ball slipped out of the bowler's hand and went very wide or dropped short, it wasn't a no ball, but the batsman had the right to treat it as a free hit. Once he'd hit it though, he could be run out or caught.
hahahahaahhhaa this was frickin hilarious! He was hopping so anxiously when he saw that lofted up lmao
its kinda messed up too tho...in a sense that the ball obviously slippd outta the bowler's hand and the play woulda been blown dead had Border let it go but [as we kno] Aussies hav no comprehension of the concept of "fair play" and most likely never will...
