  • the oyster "pedo" scene is allowed because in Japan the age of consent is 13...

  • Ok that first scene with the oyster.........super sexy!

  • thats kinda hot for some reason

  • chris hansen would not be impressed

  • anybody who thought it was pedo or wat nt,, so dumb, grow the fuck up

  • I do like this movie. However, I still don't get half of it!

  • A masterpiece..

  • I just had a flashback of Lolita...

  • is this supposed to be how they met, or is it a random girl with the same strange fetishes?

  • wrong on many levels

  • thanks for posting! i love this movie.

  • He's not a pedophile guys. The actress is 20 years old in this scene (yoriko doguchi, b. 1965, tampopo made in 1985).

  • she is not child! He is not pedo!

  • This is one of the BEST movies I have ever seen. It is truly beautiful.

  • lol, wtf did i just watch?

  • Worth watching

  • one of the funniest movies i have ever scene in any language. highly recomend

  • These are sexual scenes, all. The metaphors are so obvious. 1st scene: The oyster is vaginal-cunnilingus - blood is loss of virginity, old lady divers are envious voyeurs who want "Connie" too, but can't get it. 2nd scene is anal sex allegory - Guy eats dim sum (exotic, unusual), he is in sever pain, he has a stinky cavity, girl leg-humps him while he's in pain and stinking. 3rd scene is sexual seduction, and the amplified ecstasy of indulging in a forbidden pleasure.

  • Uhhh, ok. Or maybe the imagery doesn't need heavy-handed interpretation.

  • Eating ramen IS a "sexual" thing for japanese; U-nagi, too! UUU the sound of total satisfaction for japanese. But that movie isn't last and least about food or sex. That is just wrapping for the park of themes Itami put into that movie. Don't we watch the story of renovation of japanese culture and architecture? Out of a dark wooden store, loaded with historic shadow games becomes a lightening "nouvelle de cuisine"?

  • Agreed on the "kaki" scene (1st one).

I think you're reading a bit too much into the other two. In Tampopo, while at times drawing a line between sex & food, Itami wasn't exclusively going for sexual connotation in each & every scene. Tampopo is about food; how food is something to be enjoyed and appreciated regardless of age or social standing, how it is something that is highly intertwined with all facets of life, and how food can give pleasure in a variety of ways, to a variety of senses.

  • Best use of Mahler's 5th ever!!!!!!!

  • High-five, hidekimorais; you are probably so right it hurts. Still, the blood drop on the lip... the kiss... I can't get over the idea that Itami was laughing his ass off when he was writing these scenes.

God, I love this movie so much at times I want to marry it. Especially the fistfight scene.

  • Okay, now that we've all got the benefit of hindsight, how much of the bloated emotional content of this scene is a spoof on Mishima?

  • i think it doesn't matter at all. =)

anyway, i should read more mishima.

  • Oishi zoo!
