The high elves are descendant from the night elves. they wanted to keep using magic after the night elves shunned its use after whole well of eternity war and so they parted from their brethren. then, after arthas came and ravaged the high elf land of quel thalas, killing all but a handful of them, a bigger portion of them renamed themselves bloodelves for their absolute need for the blood of arthas. some high elves remain, the main one being vareesa windruunner, sylvannas' sister, in dalaran.

I knew that was Forest song at first.... and Ashenvale in general. Though it is a Night Elf mainly Zone, if you go back through the history of the Elven races, Night Elves and High Elves were once basically one and the same.

The Naga, Blood elves, and high elves were all night elves. High elves and blood elves are basically the same thing but Kael named them in honor of the people lost during the scourge invasion.

High elves were originally night elves. They descended from the Highborne nightelves which were royal night elves. The reason night elves and high elves (renamed blood elf) look different is because of the Well of Eternity and the Sunwell. Now Naga were Night Elves. They were punished in the Last Great War and were slammed against the bottom of the sea. Kael thalas says it in the TBC somewhere idk, that he renamed his people Blood Elves for the blood spilt by the Burning Legion.

the Lament of the Highborne actully isn't only about Blood Elfs or Sylvanas.

the song is (in-game) ages old, and rather is a lament about the whole story of the elves, starting at the Night elves history, banishment of the Highborne, them turning into High Elves, and later Blood elves.

it;s about all the three kind of elves. =)

Actually Sin'dorei means 'children of blood' and is what the blood elves call themselves.

Quel'dorei (children of noble birth) is what the high elves called themselves.

But yes Lady Sylvannas was a high elf.
