Ken Loach is probably the best english director of all times. He never gets it wrong whatever his subject is. He misguides his actors in order to get the best out of them.
In holland we never dub anything, only subtitles are used. I'm very happy about that, because i prefer to hear the real actors's voices. Logically some movies or series for children are dubbed, since litte children can't yet read...
why are Americans systematically talking about Europe as if it was a single country ? Is it because they're so uneducated they can't distinguish Switzerland from Sweden and think Poland is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean ?

@funkypitt I can. How come you think Americans are so stupid. Sweden is north next to Norway, Switzerland is below Germany above Italy, next to France, and is much smaller. Poland is (from map view), east to Germany, above Czech Republic and Slovakia, west of Ukraine, and Belarus, below the Baltic Sea. I passed with a 100 on my Europe test in Social Studies.

When it comes to great performances people will typically mention Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, or Brando in On the waterfrom. i'm nominating Peter Mullan in My Name is Joe for a lead performance if ever there was one.

i think there are a lot of good movies from great britain, showing the view of normal guys. full of life, sometimes dirty but optimistic in their own way...
This is an EXCELLENT film which should be seen in the original version with subtitles for those who have difficulty with Scottish accents. Strangely enough the German dubbing (here) seems to have captured the right voice textures(
