  • Derren actually revealed the 'secret' himself - see my video.

  • Hello mate what software did you use..

    Good Vid

  • the l\hand side is a different shot at the the start to the end, end of story.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, you are just being disruptive.

  • Your camera shake looks much more natural and, crucially, believable than DB's effort. Great how youtubers are coming up with better looking stuff than a big-shot tv magician.

  • Tis true but, the split screen effect was applied to realtime live footage which is something we can't achieve. We can use after effects for all sorts but again it's all in post production. This is where the trick lies. Realtime motion tracking is quiet advanced enough to allow for camera roll, hence why the camera shake on DB's footage is only X and Y. It's still more than we can achieve.

  • *correction* Realtime motion tracking is NOT quite advanced to allow for camera roll

  • matter of interest, what did you use for the motion tracking? the camera shake was a nice part of DB's trickery... but easily counteracted as you say.

  • I think all you've done is overlayed two clips, one where someone moves some pens, and one where someone watches tv then picks up a piece of paper.

I think the numbers were written on the paper right from the start so you've not really shown anything at all.

  • You're missing the point entirely - it shows how live motion tracking works - and how this achieves precisely the same effect as that from the lottery prediction, allowing the left side of the screen to be locked down and therefore anything you want to be happening there under the cover without the viewer knowing.

I think this video does it better than the DB trick; it doesn't have that robotic looking motion - nor the 2 sec gap in motion whilst the soft edge wipe is removed.

  • you're free to think what you want, but what you saying makes no sense, but hey its up to you..

I know how we filmed this, you obviously don't even though I have explained.

The main point is there are 2 completely different pieces of footage, one on the left and one on the right that have been seamlessly joined together in real-time.

The piece of paper at the start of this clip was blank. the assistant bought in new piece of paper with numbers 1-6 written on them and swapped with the blank.

  • Well you say that but there's no evidence of that at all, we only see the assistant standing two pens up... You could easily have shown him writing the numbers if he had done that.

  • you either cannot read or haven't raed the other posts here properly.

Who said the assistant wrote on the papper? As he didn't, the paper was swapped, the pens were placed then removed just to illustrate stuff was going on in the background.

I DID NOT TRY TO REPLICATE THE LOTTERY TRICK. forgot the paper, forget the pens!

READ THE TITLE OF THE VIDEO, this video has been uploaded to show you that there are two separate feeds running at the same time seamlessly joined together.

  • Energonorama - when I next get some free-time I will re-do the clip and leave the overlay off for the entire time the assistant is there so as you can see him swipe the objects away and swap the paper, just for you.

Even then I sense you wont believe us and assume we are trying to fool you!

  • Wouldn't waste your time - that's someone there who doesn't WANT to understand

  • Actually the assistant came in, aligned some objects then removed and swapped paper over. the paper sat inside 2 rails to ensure it was aligned exact.

You don't see all of the assistants footage as the overlay wipes back over the top to show you how the live motion tracking was done, as this was the purpose of the video. I wasn't trying to trick you, rather show you how live tracking is achieved!

So you don't see the assistant swipe objects away and swap paper!

  • ? Fail. The pens should be there stood up at the end seemlessly if this is how it was done.

I think it's pretty obvious that your assistant didn't write anything on the paper.

  • I have to agree with this lad here. If you were going to show us something that was going to change why wouldn't you show us it blank to begin with instead of nothing changing? Putting the pens up and then taking them down wouldn't prove anything. You may as well have bought in a horse if you were going to take it away again. It doesn't prove anything!

All you have done here is take one video of a guy looking at the TV and another of putting pens up then whacked it in video editing software.

  • Check this out on the proper version... The intro is prerecorded and the actual live stuff begins when it cuts back to Derren close up with his hands in the air, just after the wave. Just before he waves he looks at the marker on the floor to ensure he is in position for the two edits. Awesome. The far shot was to fool us that there was only a man holding a camera. Really the whole camera rig is in place for the split screen already. Camera stops moving for 2 seconds for split screen to fade.

  • The truth is nobody knows how he did it for sure. These are all theories. I haven't come across anyone yet who thinks he did it the way he explained in the show though.

  • DO YOU ALWAYS COME ON YOUTUBE AT THIS TIME of day or are you just jobless? or are you unemployable

    TEH end

  • did you want an answer

    TEH END

  • I'll take your answer as being stupid. By the way, welcome to time zones. It's not the same time of day for everyone right now!

    Love always

  • are you stupid or what your in teh UK

and all uk time zones are teh same

your name gives it away that your in teh UK,

    god your stupid

  • ill just take you as UNEMPLOYED AND UNEMPLOYABLE

  • It was not physical motion tracking.

Motion was added to a still image digitally.

    Much simpler.

  • Um, I can see your assistant. And the music is very annoying.

  • what sort of monitor are you viewing on?? would you like us to change the music? what music would you like?

  • i wouldn't mind some light rock actually

  • I am referring to Derrens video and not this example by the way.......

  • What would have been impressive is turning the balls round as they came out the lottery machine. lol. The only thing that makes me think is it's not realtime motion tracking is the fact that the camera zooms in and out a couple of times. Motion tracking can't work with zoom. The camera wasn't free held therefor and a realtime shake effect was added. Look how robotic it looks and stops for two seconds completely just before he walks over.

  • really sorry to tell you real-time motion tracking is absolutely possible on zooms, it uses a multitude of X and Y co ordinates along with Z coordinates to do 3D tracking, please look on you tube for 'boujou' or 'maya real' or 'Vizrt' tracking before you make statements that aren't true. :)

  • Thanks for the correction. I saw a video on the making of a film shot and they couldn't motion track a shot because zoom was used. This was quite an old one though so I guess it has moved on along way....thanks for correcting me then. Derrens show is most certainly is then possibly motion tracking. I still believe the hand cam is very robotic looking though on the live show. Oooh you gotta luv the speculation it's created.

  • good video. Id like to believe that his real explanation was correct but this seems more likely. Also Derren takes his tme to write down all the numbers in numerical order and walk over to the balls giving his assistant plenty time to put the right balls there.

  • to predict the number is impossable in teh way he said he done it

simply put, the numbers would have to roll around in teh box in teh same order every single week , for any one to be able to do a maths calculation to come close to predicting teh numbers.THIS GUY DOEN IT FIRST TIME ?

HOWEVER since teh numbers do NOT roll around in the box teh same excact places everyweek way .. then is impossable to poridct a random avent based on that chaotic logic

  • Do you write 'teh' as a cute way of spelling 'the'? Or are you stupid?

  • take it how you want my friend for i shall always love you

    TEH END

  • The split screen is one way he could have done it... another way would be to make the balls from some kind of digital material - like digital paper or e-paper...there are pleanty of google videos showing how effective that stuff is

  • its not really that clever, the software used to do realtime motion tracking is real clever, that's where the real trick lies

  • this one was just shot on my mobi, in derren studio they had a team of top lighting engineers and gaffer tape marks as to were the camera man and assistant could stand

  • Nicely done, I understand and makes loadsa sense but how can you atempt keeping the scene totally neutral and even? also can you see any flaw within this camera trick of derren browns to spot the camera shake?

btw thought its really clever and simple, good going!
