@lovetownsend the coen brothers actually seem very happy, once you get passed their interview personas. they just seem very confused/distraught about life, like anyone who sees reality for what it is. they are both happily married with families and have implicitly stated in their movies that that is the only form of true happiness in life. and it's widely known they are very happy and have fun making movies.
I love the story told by Tommy Lee at the film's conclusion about going out in the freezing dark and making the fire with his fire. Great ending, much like that of Blood Meridian, albeit with even less ambiguity.

Honestly, I think just about every movie of the Coen's that I've seen, and I've seen almost all of them, have been masterpieces. No Country for Old Men could be the peak.
The Cohens have made so many movies that were phenomenal, but "No Country..." was a real dog. The bad guy was HORRIBLE, the plot was meaningless, and story's hero is KILLED w/o us having the benefit of seeing him shot.
The Academy gave this movie all the nods because it's the Cohen Bros. but other than that, this movie deserved NOTHING. The Big Lebowski, Raising Arizona, Barton Fink, Fargo, these are all GREAT.
Ae you a fucking idiot? I was responding to commiealiens. I not even sure what it is your talking about. You think I LIKE a movie about a man in a spider costume? Work on your comprehension, and stop leaving smarmy one liners about things you havent understood. FUCKING MORON!!!

Another movie goer who wants to be spoon fed! The movie ends the may the novel does. It doesn't have a 'Happy' ending because Bell doesn't feel too happy. It's that simple! He is left only with his wife who has yet to 'retire'. Bell didn't prevent a damn thing in the story and now he must live the rest of his life with that on his conscience. It's so sublte but yet brutal. He did what he could, he couldn't stop 'what's coming', now there's only death to 'look forward' to.

Crappy ending. I didnt want the bad guy to get it. I just wanted a few loose ends tied up. This so called style of filmaking these days is too vague. The scene couldve been better. The dreams he had were totally invalid to the story. The recent events had obvioulsy disturbed him so why would I care if hes gonna go riding or take a dump or clean the floor. I wanna know his take at the end. Hes contemplating it, why not end with his thoughts in Narrative like when the movie started?
In what way was the ending crap? Was it because the story didn't spoonfeed you a heaping amount of resolution at the end? IS it that it wasn't completely tailored to American tastes in film -happy endings? I am American and I relaize how obsessed people are with happy endings. The title of the film is "No Country for Old Men" for a reason. The central theme of NCFOM is that times, even in the 80's have really changed our country, and in most cases not for the better.
All hate all this drug addicts that think there the victims of society.Nobody forces nobody to take drugs.liberty will fuck you up if your not responsible.
You can't make that kind of generalization, some people grow up in drug infested neighborhoods, which makes it hard for them to just say no. But when it comes to rich kids living in the suburbs, I agree with you on that.
The ending was amazing, because it reflected the way life is. The movie ends at one point. It's life, it goes on. You didnt like it because the bad guys didnt get it in the end, and Tommy Lee doesnt fade out saying, "we got another one honey."
Really? Cronenberg losing his touch? I thought Eastern Promises was onr=e of the best films of the year as was the Coen Bros. No Country For Old Men. Best film I've seen this year tho was Into The Wild.
Cronenberg losing his touch? Ergh...Eastern Promises displays one of the greatest fight scenes ever seen on film, great character portrayal, and beautiful dialogue, the only thing you feel is it ends to soon
He's definately not losing his touch...so your comment comes across as pretty asinine
I love the Coen brothers and Cronenberg, although my fav film of 2007 is no country, and so far 2008 is there will be blood
a good fight scene yes. viggo does an amazing job and actually makes a convincing russian whereas the others do not. the accents are abyssmal.. laughable! i think cronenberg is veering away from everything that made his movies interesting to begin with. its just my opinion omnipotent one.. take it or leave it asshole
the last 2 films of his are quite different in that they have very little to do with alot of the same themes hes chose to explore throughout his career. i dont find them as effective or interesting.. my opinion. :)
there's few popular directors making consistently interesting movies like the Coen brothers (well..Cronenberg comes to mind). i can't wait to see this new one!
Yeah i think that the coen brothers are just as strong as they were in the 90's. Infact, i would call them two of the best filmmakers alive right now. Most incredible directors have passed on. I like cronenberg also.
dont ask fucking coon. Ask Cormac!
