I went to a friend's hobby shop and he explained how DCC works. It is very powerful and versatile, but I question the value for small layouts, when that extra expense could go to buying track, rolling stock, and scenery.
$250 for a DCC controller vs a single DC pack for $50 - not to mention the cost of the modules, installation, and repairs/replacements.
when the hell did you ever need copper bus feeds??? My layout has been running on DCC fine and all i did was replace my analogue controller with a digital one , switched on all isolating sections and there you go full DCC operation, Don't know when this video was made but things have moved on!
You don't! Ordinary wire is just as good. I thought that the 'copper tape' idea was brilliant. 'Sticky wire'! Fab! Just put your scenery over the top. You'll never see it again. A pity, however that my track is finished and 'sceneried'. Next time eh? Oh!, there are reversing-loop gizmo's available to take all the strain from flicking a lever/switch, as it does it automatically! Clever.
urm usually on my ho railway my control has a direction switch. this is confusing!!! i'm glad i still use ddc. even though the features of dcc like sound and ableing to have more than one train on the track are all cool, i've only been in the hobby for 2 years and i'm 13. so dc is easier for me.
U seem to know alot about dcc I am in n scale and have dcc and i was wondering if u can use a dp dp toggle fo ra reverse loop ...and if so how do u do it and will it cause any voltage doubleing cause i dont want to burn out my decoder
The thing is is that it is always under the layout and never visible. While it is not required for DCC, on a large layout its purpose is to supply the whole layout with even current and prevents voltage drops, since copper wire conducts electricity much better that nickel silver rail and rail joiners. And if you haven't already started, might I recommend buying the book DCC Made Easy by Lionel Strang.

ZTC sucks because you have to put all the copper tape down.

I've never heard of that Power Bus before. All you need to do is to get the DCC power tracks from your model railway company.
Camborner15 4 years ago
The "Power BUS" is not really necessary is it? I have not seen this done else where and I am looking to digitise my own layout.
