I dont agree with reparation because I had nothing to do with it. My heritage is Polish, German and Norwegian. None of my people were directly involved with slave trade in America. Plus, my ancestors didnt get here until the late 1880s. Slavery was abolished by then.

Question concerning reperation: I am part american indian. No racial group had had it more difficult in America!!!! Black people, as a group, seems to make it seem that they are the most discriminated and kept down people in this country. Interesting topic. The Canadian governement put a pricetag on human suffering that the First Nations people experienced in the government run Indian Residential schools. My mother and other first nations peoples in Canada recieved reperations in 2008 totalling in the thousands, I think it was around $40,0000 or more that she recived.

The problem is that the system allowed for an exceptionally long amount of time to lapse before allowing even the idea of justice to be discussed concerning Black human trafficking in the U.S.- which I believe the time lapse was done on purpose.

What if a white man got an African slave as ancestor and an African Y-chromosome? During Jim Crow he would pass as black. The issue of race is very complex and hard to determine because we would have to DNA test almost the entire US population. And as you said, what qualifies? Alot of black men in the USA has a white paternal ancestor and many whites have alot of mixed genes from native Americans and Africans. I don't see reparations in forms of money to be very effective at all, for any group.

As for population decline, demographic trends show that we have neared peak population and by next century may be seeing a population bust. Reparations should go to people who lived through it. Interesting topic. The Canadian governement put a pricetag on human suffering that the First Nations people experienced in the government run Indian Residential schools. My mother and other first nations peoples in Canada recieved reperations in 2008 totalling in the thousands, I think it was around $40,0000 or more that she recived.

I agree with a lot of what DEMCAD is saying, but reparations should always be on the table for discussion simply because there is still evidence of what "slavery" has done to a rather significant amount of people. The problem is that the system allowed for an exceptionally long amount of time to lapse before allowing even the idea of justice to be discussed concerning Black human trafficking in the U.S.- which I believe the time lapse was done on purpose.

What if a white man got an African slave as ancestor and an African Y-chromosome? During Jim Crow he would pass as black. The issue of race is very complex and hard to determine because we would have to DNA test almost the entire US population. And as you said, what qualifies? Alot of black men in the USA has a white paternal ancestor and many whites have alot of mixed genes from native Americans and Africans. I don't see reparations in forms of money to be very effective at all, for any group.

Through the 18th c., France arrested all unaccompanied minors & if a fine could not be paid, they were shipped to French areas in N. America "to work & colonize." Child slaves. Reparations should go to people who lived through it. Reparations for Japanese internment and the holocaust are understandable but the blacks who want slavery reparations just want an excuse for free money (enough of them already get welfare and AA for fuck's sake). Perhaps reparations should have been done a long time ago, but it's dumb to ask for it now especially since there are no former slaves alive today.

Several hundred years ago, most Europeans lived in serfdom, they had no freedom or rights. The word slave is in fact a more modern synonym of the serf.
