Champion beast is top of my list too. Even brand new it fades quicky at the end. The Surge FLX is the best disc I like. It ages well, you can smack a tree or whatever and it still flys like it was brand new. I have five of them. Each a little more worn than the last. I finnaly parked #18 at Harbin with it(25 feet from the basket is parked on that whole!) which is 480 feet but you have to throw over 40 foot trees if you want to park it. So I'm gonna be an asshole and say threw it over 520
i think in my experience of throwing the beast. it goes straight forever and then fades a light hyzer. a very reliable disc that everyone should carry in their bag.
If I throw my star beast near vertical wing down (hyzer) RHBH I can get 400 foot shots that never get more than 10 feet off the ground, with a nice annie for the first 200-275 feet and then a nice slow fade back, great disc, but not really "overstable" at all. Not like an Ape or a DC crush.
168: with likely turn over quickly and fade straight., 171: will turn moderately quickly and fade back
175: (my fav) f I laser it with enough power will fly straight...s curve nicely, fade right, then fade left...but not a huge fade either way....I've planted my champ tie dye beast under many of baskets anywhere from 180 to 300 feet. it IS understable. and IS for good distance...similar to a Valkyrie
Yeah i use the beast for turnover shots, and so do several other people that I play with, they hold a turnover for a long ways. Of course they work a lot better for turnover shots when they are broken in. I also have a destroyer and the thing is too overstable, mine is a PIG. Oh and I was just messing you you ikirumata, the beast used to be too overstable for me too, as your throw develops you will start turning over discs like the valk and the beast.
Thanks for the review. I also have a beast, and its one of my go-to discs off the tee.
However, I must disagree with your assessment that the beast is an understable disc. Of all the discs in my bag, it is the most overstable...and thus predictable. If you think this disc is understable, then you might have a lighter beast. One thing that you don't mention in your reviews is that the lighter the disc, the more understable it is.
Thanks again for the review! I am enjoying the series!
While I never claimed to hold any distance records, I am just speaking from my own experience. I regularly throw a 175g champion beast, a 175g dx valkyrie, a 168g dx valkyrie, and a 144g shark and of all of these discs, the champion beast is consistently overstable. I will concede that: 1. I may throw like a girl, and 2. I don't have any really overstable discs in my bag for comparison.
You use the beast for turnover shots!? I too consider the beast to be overstable. I've got a innova destroyer, and that thing turns over. No matter how i let it go, it always ends up on its end, rolling 100's of feet. It was not designed that way though. One of the edges is perfectly warped that it always lands on its side. I must have smacked a tree perfectly. I'll sell it to you for 10 bucks.
Turn and Fade are two different things. Turn is the initial high speed direction (understable turn to the right) and the fade is what happens after the disc loses speed. Since all discs hyzer at the end of their flight, the fade ratihg is based on how MUCH it actually fades. You should check out some of the discraft videos.

@Mrtenor99 This is true. I have two Beasts (167 and 175) and after some major wear, they were easy to turn over.

Haha if you think the beast is overstable, then you haven't tried an x caliber or a boss.
