  • your necklace indicates that your done wearing it yes??

  • knives are on the right, forks are on the left, if it is a zombie apocalypse,

u throw each and every of those utensils at them

this is actually emergency artillery for a zombie apocalypse, but they call it table manner, cause u dont simply survive dining on a zombie apocalypse with only a knive and a fork, you gotta need 7 of them! ITS A GOVERNMENT SECRET GUYS!

  • I have a relative that says that it's improper to use a knife on anything that can be cut with a fork. She says it's insulting to the chef or the cook to use a knife if it's easily cut with a fork. This is not what I have been taught. Can you please clarify this for me. Thank you very much.

  • @TheMinnie419 A knifes sole purpose is to pick the food up and transfer it to the mouth not to cut. Have you ever seen yourself cut with a fork and a knife. Cutting with the fork looks much more graceful.

  • why does my index finger always bend when placed on top of the knife as im cutting my food?

  • thank you for the information - I like your calmness.. really shows your upbringing if you have good table manners.

  • I was wondering about the continental vs zig-zag method of eating. I eat the continental way, I always have. However my mom recently started to entrust me to use the zig zag method. I keep telling her that the continental way is more than appropriate, and that I should not be required to switch to the tedious zig-zag method. My research has shown that its perfectly fine to do either one. However she continues to blatantly ignore me. Can someone maybe direct me to a credible source?

  • @googleboy314 Take your mother to nearest psychiatric there is no other way to convince her, Thats what I always felt with my mom :D

  • thanks a bunch Miss Mitchell. I have learned a lot from your classes.

  • Thanks to Marriott Hotels Corporation which taught me this.....This was part of out basic training...

  • 7 people use chopsticks

  • gosh so many things! I just want to transfer a mass of food into my stomach! which will later be transported through my system and out. Sheesh!!

  • What if we go to australia...should we place the knife and th fork criss crossed or 45 deg to indicate we didnt finish the course??

  • Monkeysee and Etiquette !!! WTF how the hell a moneky talkin about Etiquette heh

  • Incredible presentation! Thank you Ms Nancy for the awesome tips! I appreciate that!

  • hahaha, I wonder why Americans always have to do things different from their roots, if it made sense like some things, alright but this.. They just make it difficult, and it is rather inconvenient to do so.

  • @JuLienAlian Actually, they are the only ones who maintain their roots. Originally, the traditional European method, once the fork was adopted as a utensil, was to transfer the fork to the right hand after cutting food, as it had been considered proper for all utensils to be used with the right hand only. This tradition was brought to America by British colonists and is still in use in the United States. Europe adopted the more rapid style of eating in relatively modern times. (Wikipedia)

  • 5:09 "Caution: Activities depicted in this video should not be attempted without appropriate safety precaution"

Ermm, so... should I go back to using chopsticks?

  • I would hate to have dinner with this woman...I would be so afraid of making an etiquette faux pas

  • Eropeans, dont they get tired of keep holding the knife n fork all the time??! and lols how europeans eat rice or small portions of meals?? on the opposite side of the fork in the left hand side, pretty stupid and uncomfortable!!!!????

  • i hate it when customers don't follow the silent code!!

  • There is no American way for fine dining.Sorry but if talking etiquette, the fork is always held in the left hand! It's simply for ease of dining!

  • Thanks, just what i needed.

  • is this a joke? what the fuck is the point in etiquette? it's so pathetic how these people just want to feel sophisticated. eat your food however the fuck you want woman!

  • @TheAnalDestr0yer

Truth is, TheAnalDestr0yer, how you eat reflects your character and how you were raised. Someday you will be sitting at a table with a potential employer, future mother-in-law, or significant other, hoping to make a good impression. Sadly, when that day comes you will curse yourself for having never learned to eat like something other than a complete slob.

  • @ohnojkd If I'm rejected by anyone for the way I eat, then that is a person who is not worth my time, and is very shallow.

  • whats wrong with using your hands...

How am I suppose to dip my chicken nuggets in the ketchup!

  • necklace=off center. i'd kick you out my damn house.

  • I prefer the American style. It's less barbarian. ("In the continental style you only place your knife and fork down to grab a turkey leg.")

  • @marklee81I agreed with our way the American style, but that mean we all should be skinny and healthy because it's slow our eat style but we all still fat and obesity. Maybe I should adapt the Asian style and use the chopstick now that's even less barbarian. Maybe that is why so many skinny Asian.

  • Reverse European style :D

Screw etiquette, I can eat how I like. Fork in right hand, knife in left hand, butcher meat and eat. One fork, one knife, two spoons (regular and soup), done. I call it the I-don't-give-a-damn etiquette style.

  • @diomonddragon Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice XD

  • I used the American style when I'm happy and really enjoying the food, usually I'll go with the european style of pivoting the fork. I do change hand when using fork at times though, subconsciously

  • i will just stick with my chopsticks

  • lol monkey see videos is that about us who watch this? >.<

  • @Metrowhite LOL good one

  • WTF you don't cross over with European style when not eating but not finished, you make an equilateral triangle with the top point in the middle, and the utensils on different sides of the plate.

  • I prefer Continental style!

  • what about the garnish; is it ok to eat the garnish if it's edible?

  • no audio

  • I would really like to dine in this fashion...very dignified.

  • thats why RUSTIC HAMBURGER JOINTS ROCK!!!! foods about eating and enjoying..why do these fancy restaurants say ITS AN EXPERIENCE when all u have to do is mind what ur doing on the table rather than think about what ur eating .THANKS FOR THE VID ANYWAYS

  • wow thank you for such a detailed explanation

was bugging my bf for using the utensils in an improper way and decided to check :)) so he's doing it american way then :))

  • would it be possible to mix both american and europian together? my dad is muslim and I usually eat meals with his friends/relatives and they find it rude if someone ate with his left hand but I live in UK and it would be rude to use the american way when I dont relate to americans...

  • @TheDavin69 Thats really weird, interesting but weird. Like how would they react if someone ate with their left hand? Quietly tell someone else "look at him, eating with his left hand." or get up and yell at them?

  • Very nice! Like the way she explains everything!

  • love all your videos and they are so informative .Thanks for posting them.

  • Wow American fine dining is convoluted!

  • you lady and what makes you so special

  • i asked my guest do they mind if i go powder my face.. so i went to have a shit and sat at 10 o clock and was careful to wipe my arse in a circular motion using my napkin that i smuggled out....

  • @fairhillnorrie You forget to mention that the wiping should be done counter clockwise and, this is essential, with the left hand only.

That bit of using the napkin is a nice touch!, but dont forget that when you use the napkin again at the table to lay it down face up, so the staff can see you would like a new one. This is fun. I like civilized company.

  • @warpnin3 ha ha... your a scream..

  • i want to eat a meal not drive a f*cking plane!!! what snobbery!!!

  • if i were to follow these SNOB rules i would starve to death!!! B.S. SNOBS..

  • I love this! I have been confined to this until I get it right, wish me luck. :(

  • on another topic- how is it that when finished that the fork and knife would NOT be at be CENTRE of the plate? i was constantly told to do this and on the video it shows that the knife and fork are in a cross instead.. why is this not so?

  • i always put the fork on my right hand and knife on the left, its a bad habbit

i want to thank you very much for the video- its very clear .. thanks

  • you americans and your "here in the united states" quote

  • people are talking about dining etiquette, if you are not blind dear jumar 1281

  • who takes the time to learn and enforce this shit?

  • @jumar1281 The worst part of your comment is if I would call you a nigger for what you said, you would get offended and people would think I am the bad guy ....... nevermind, I already said that and you know what, many people like myself grew up learning this because it is part of your education and of showing respect to others, so by calling it s..t you offend my beliefs mate so knock it off nigga!

  • the clock position is actually 4 20 ;)

  • I think this is too much

for me food etiquette is not to bother other people sitting with you with stupid sounds or ugly moves.. like who eat very fast bite after bite struggling taking breath like he is running not having dinner.

  • ok i think u misunderstood wat i was trying to do i was just trying to infrom that its not about trying to impress ppl if u would learn etiquette to impress some 1 then thats ur down fall.......................... ppl just do it to show them self in a suffisticated light

  • Comment removed

  • I'd rather starve to death than try to impress someone with elitist, inconvenient, fancy styles of dining etiquette while over 900 million people starve to death all over the world.

  • @rawrimaprick itz not trying to impress some one its showing that u have SOME class or standard to which u up hold ur self......

  • @CRUDE360 look who's talking about class or standard Mr. "u", "ur" and "itz".

  • @rawrimaprick i agree totally.... 5*****

  • "there are mesagehgehh messages that.." haha :D

  • thanks a lot very helpful....

  • I bet that the only negative vote wasn't from a human... o,O

  • Hmm, I read somewhere that the criss-cross meant you were done

  • Just to add Muslims eat with their right hand so muslims who don't know this should swap the fork and knife other than that nicely explained by the lady.

  • why on earth cant their use hands ... duffers

  • american style shouln't be exist at all, because all americans (exept natives) are europeans.

plus it looks very stupid to switch your utensils after every bite!

  • @2009galactica

    Americans are europeans?

  • @2009galactica

what kind of dipshit are you? have you ever been to america? american are comprised from races across the entire world. there are americans from europe, africa, asia, south america, australia and everywhere else in the United States

  • awesome lessons just what i was looking for..

by the way the american style is rather stupid..

  • @bloodtypebloodtype there is no true american style fine dining.

  • Thanks for this video!

  • What about Greek Style??

  • @porchestra Eating out and not leaving others behind.

  • Ok, I need to eat something now , this video made me hungry for some reason !

Gonna get some pizza and beer to test out my etiquette!

  • @jagdeeptube lol!!!!!!!!!

  • @jagdeeptube Looooooooool. me too.

  • @jagdeeptube lol

  • Firstly, I am a Canadian.

I think instead of all the switching, I must have made my own method, which is kind of like the mirror image of the European style.

I just keep my knife in my left hand and keep my fork in my right hand...but then my boss caught me doing it today and said that I didn't know how use a knife and fork properly...after 31 years I don't think anyone told me that before, but after watching this video, now I know :( Oh etiquette *sigh*

  • People hold pencils differently..

  • ok!!! question for example in the american style one usually puts the knife on the upper edge of the plate so...what if you need to take a break? one has put the knife and fork inside the plate! lot of work though! lol!

  • vistaprime: Maybe she meant American here as in the Americas (North, South & Central)? After all, that is also the way we eat in some parts of South America *though we do mix it with European stuff*.

  • sorry Canadians do that as well so should it be the North American style?

  • wow thanks good vdo

  • thanxx for the difference between american & european style of eating

  • yeah u r write switching leads to a bit f hassle...

  • Third!

  • Second one, yeah!

I don't think that she's too fond of American dinning; I would have to agree. All that switching makes me dizzy.

  • first yeah
