suze virtually saved my life with this advice about an 8-month emergency fund.
i moved from MD to MA last fall, leaving my old job and thinking it'd be easy for a guy like me to find a new job once i moved. this was a month before the financial crisis. i was expecting to be unemployed for 3-4 weeks,...a month, tops.
long story short, i was unemployed for 8 months. and i would've sunk, had it not been for the emergency fund i judiciously amassed the year before & never thought i'd be using.
