My mums just been admitted to the hospital with exactly everything you've just said, except she's still there (keeping her overnight) and it started at 11:00am this morning, it's now 10:30pm just left her at the hospital still exactly the same, pain, can't get any air, medication not working, moaning every time she inhales and exhales. It's so scary and so hard to helplessly watch this happen, I'd hate to experience it. This is the first time this has happened to her and first time I've ever se
@sparklesTHEDAMNpony That sounds absolutely frightening, i hope your mothers condition improves, it sounds bizarre for her to suddenly have an asthma attack with no history of it, ensure she checks herself out.
Thank you for sharing ur story my five year old has asthma and I have watched many of her attacks and it is scary for me to. I have seen her gasp for air and ask for help before rushing her to the ER. It is a very scary condition. Glad that u are ok.
@bhanskate Hello, make sure you see a doctor to get diagnosed or not. Your symptoms sound NOT like asthma. Asthma is the feeling of shortness of breath, weezing, sometimes coughing. Tightness of muscles due to lack of breathing, slight panic (which increases) usually coming from bad environments (pollution) or exercise, or sometimes but rarely randomly.
@bhanskate Actually, you do have a symptom of Asthma. The coughing at night is very characteristic. Sometimes, people don't show all of the symptoms like wheezing or shortness of breath, but you could still have it. Go to your doctor, and they'll run some tests. :3
u poor thing glad u are okay, my asthma has suddenly got really scary but im not sure if its cause nz has been freezing never had asthma like this bad in my life

Thanks for your self disclosure. After moving to the mid west a year ago, my asthma returned, the humidity really takes a toll on me. Im looking for some natural remedies.

I was just recently diagnosed with asthma although I've had symptoms for years. My first severe asthma attack my friend called an ambulance for me and the EMTs were really rude to me. They said everything was normal that they tested yet I couldn't breath at all. They weren't any better when I got to the hospital. Most of the doctors were rude and they ekpt me there for an hour then sent me home although I still couldn't breathe. It's good they were so nice to you.
I have had asthma since a baby. Nearly died twice in my teen years. All I can say is never feel like it's a bad thing to do calling the hospital. Exactly what Ramey said, If your not getting relief from your nebuliser then it's time to dial the ambulance. And if your on your own that should be one of the first things you think of doing. Remain calm because yes, the heart Racing does change your breathing you Must remain calm. The feeling of relief when you put on your nebuliser is a feeling of
The same happened to me in 2003, and I actually did stop breathing in the ambulance and was "dead" for a time. Obviously the hospital brought me back, butit is not an experience you ever forget. The doctors all said another 2 minutes and I would not have made it. It was the quick actions of my young children that saved my life and of course the exceptional medical services.
Asthma can be life threatening and those close to you should no what to do.
@ultreality were you intubated? that happened to me too, i passed out and woke up at the hospital with tubes and some life monitors.. i knew i'm done for when I closed my eyes.
For a time, then oxygen mask with pure oxygen in conjunction with an IV drip of Aminophylline and another IV - not sure what that was. Also had oxygen monitor clip on a finger and other monitors. When I crashed back in to my body and came around I remember the doctors saying that my oxygen level was very low and was acutely hypoxic. The doctors and consultant told me that another 2 minutes and I would not have made it.
I feel your pain man. I had one not to long ago, you said you were a little high tho? Do u mean off marijuana? Or just all the medicine? Not to be intrusive but I believe marijuana has helped my asthma significantly. But regardless, during an attack, I think doctors should perscribe more asthmatics stuff like valuim to calm you down during an attack because its impossible to calm down yourself. Its saved me numorous times!
When you are having an attack are certain you are going to die, slowly and there is nothing you can do about it - yes it is scary. I know, I have been there.
ive just had one this week, twice in one day, had to go hospital, still recovering. asthma sucks! especially having it since i was born so i know there is a chance i will never get rid of it
I also had severe asthma that put me into full cardiac and respiratory arrest before the paramedics arrived. Severe asthma is curable and I many of the medical journal articles from researchers around the world posted on the asthmastory site. Research that links severe asthma to the bacteria chlamydia pneumoniae and how to kill the bacteria which is also a possible cause of other major medical issues.
