I find it disturbing that so many people see a small child throwing a tantrum and immediate advise a beating. First of all, expressing emotion is a LEARNING process - no child should be beaten for experimenting with emotional communication. In my experience, the best response to a tantrum is to ignore the child completely until they've calmed down. ANY response, be it soothing pleas or almighty wrath, just reinforces that behavior as having power over the situation. Trust me, walking away WORKS!
