  • Anybody else recognize 0:06 from a Beatles song?

  • Always loved Steve; his fretless playing is so distinctive. And his use of harmonics (artificial or pinched) is just outta this world!

  • what's that song he's playin at the end?

  • damn strait fender jazz bass 6 string fretless

  • this guy is excellent; a commander

  • Look out tal wilkenfeld!!!! LOL

  • He is great, he should be playing guitar instead...

  • @carakenio Stupid 12 year olds

  • anyone know what strings he uses

    please

    thanks

    -Hans

  • @hansfrank13 i believe he has flatwounds but what company i have no idea it's a fender custom, so i'd guess that it might be fender's flatwounds

  • Why would someone watch a video and then say they don't like it?

  • that's some of the biggest fucking arms i have ever seen on an old man lol

  • Why do people bring Les Claypool up when the subject is Bass greats...

  • @steenbass people have different taste than you. get over it.

  • not interesting i think he must play the guitar

  • The only way you can diss this is if you come from a deeply ignorant perspective.

  • sounds like southbound pachaderm by primus!

  • @broadcast666this les claypool aint got shit on steve

  • @deepfriedpankakes true. the opposite is true also. steve ain't got shit on les either

  • @TehSorso i studied with steve man an let me tell you Les aint even half the musician Steve is. As far as knowledge of the the instrument and musicality is concerned Les isn't even allowed to park in the same parking lot

  • @deepfriedpankakes I think you did not get my point. What i was trying to say was that Steve is a wonder for the music he plays, but Les has definitely got a uniqueness about his style that makes him... unique. I agree that Les doesn't have half the musical knowledge that Steve has but hell, Les didn't even study musical theory! His style isn't about virtuosity, though, it's about expression and punch, which is not the case for Steve. They're both good at what they do, that's what i was saying.

  • @TehSorso Uh, Les Claypool, how high are you?

  • amazing dexterity&musicality

  • ive never liked how steve plays... his sound is just too thin and chirpy for my taste

  • oh, and I discovered this song is called bombz over baghdad

  • those 4 low notes, like the ones in 2:53 ... I love them. And a lot more interesting melodies, really beautiful composition

  • ver nice!!

  • Kicks ass... no words to add...

  • I picked up a six string fretless, line 6 delay and snarling dogs bootzilla to really bring out the harmonics you can barely hear on a regular set up. the extended index finger is actually creating a vibrational node on the string to create higher order harmonics (around 4:30). it's so cool how you can slide harmonics on a fretless. not very practical for backing in a band but totally awesome in a solo!!

  • I have a dvd with him and victor wooten. they do some amazing stuff. the "false harmonic" technique greatly expands the sonic possibilities of the bass.

  • Holy shit!!!

    Amazing Bass Guitar Player! !!!!

  • Harmonics on a fretless? Shit, that requires skill.

  • @GiI11 no it doesn't...

  • awesome...
