There are a ton of these absolutely boring and UNENTERTAINING videos on youtube. These are not even educational videos, these are purely unentertaining boring videos. Which seems to contrast youtube's main purpose, funny and entertaining. Does this mean that whatever is on youtube people are ready and willing to watch, especially if it has a high view count, no matter what the subject? Check out grass growing....
Yes there are BORING videos on YouTube. Why do people watch them? The paint ones you've selected are ironic and self-reflexive; facets of what people find entertaining on YT.
What is interesting to me about youtube that I have noticed is I think that people judge whether or not a video is watchable not only by the video title, but how many views there are. On youtube, even the most unentertaining subject possible qualifies for many many people as some form of entertainment. For example, this is the link of a video with 55,172 views. Seems pretty popular, I bet its pretty entertaining. Then you look at it, and its a 10 minute video of paint drying.
This assignment highlighted the difficulty of running an organized class on Youtube. People struggled to figure out where to post and what to talk about. Also, posting on youtube in real time is difficult because it takes time for comments to load-- they are not instantaneous
Professor Juhasz's comment, in video 1 of this tour, about videos on YouTube being "easy to get, easy to understand and quick to consume" does allow for "more, more, more," but also connects to connects to the comment in video 9 about people's decreasing ability to process meaningful information. Because this type of entertainment (entertainment for entertainment sake) is so readily available, people are reading less and have stopped doing other beneficial activities.
I turned my active sharing on... there's also a setting to keep it always on, apparently. Under the video it says "Also Watching Now" which shows the people who are watching the video and have active sharing on.

I'm having a hard time "monitoring" you all. Both a good thing and bad.
