She is to be a Maiko, a younger Geisha. Geisha look quite diff then their young counterparts. Maiko's wear long sleeves, just like here and bright colours. Her obi is tried the Maiko's manner. Geisha wear short sleeves, darker colours, and will n ot wear that tie. She is just a cosplayer, but she did a great job.
No offense, but this does not appear to be a geisha. She is a lovely dancer, but she is not as polished as a geisha (geisha practice dancing every day) and she is not as dressed up as one either. Is this perhaps a girl doing Japanese dance?
Personally I think she did an amazing job as dressing as a geisha. I know she put a lot of time and effort in putting together this outfit, learning the history and etiquitte of a geisha, as well as learning to tie her own obi and do the makeup. Of course she's probably not gonna look 100% like a geisha from Japan, but this is an anime convention, and I think she got it pretty damn close. I also must say the dance looks amazing in person when she does it.
Oh I agree she is a lovely dancer. I hope to someday learn the dance style myself and I know how hard it can be to find classes and info. I just like to call things what they are, because not everyone knows the difference between a real geisha and a girl dressed to look like one. As I am sure you know, there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding geisha. People do not really understand what they are and are easily confused.
well yeah she wasnt a true geisha it was just at the anime convention. u can tell shes not a professional but i still think she did a really good job regardless.
