Bridging the gap &, if I remember correctly, defying team orders & working with Armstrong to the finish & putting LA in his place in the sprint. Another reason to like Dekker. The previous year Boogard beat LA in the same race but sat on him to the finale. Rabobank again! Say what you will about that era of doping, it was the shit watching them do 250k at 48kph average.
I really enjoy Dekker's style. Calm, fluid back motion (I disagree whole heartedly with Phil, and actually think he looks comfy rolling gently about the handlebars. I do that quite often, and don't think it necessarily indicates fatigue), supremely supple pedal style. His position is perfect, level arms, flat back, shoulders loose. He gapped them NO problem simply by producing threshold power in his calm aero position. Brilliant ride. @sunfallen thanks for posting!
