I live near Spencer Iowa, my mom told me that when she was in college, she worked at that library. but that was a few years after Dewey died. Every year me and her travel up to Spencer and put flowers on his gravestone.

I got a few nice p m's from the grandson of the man that owned that hardware store.I wanted to know more info about the cat ( how it died etc) but never heard back from the guy.He said things have changed in his hometown and the store was sold later.His grandpa and Tom are together again.

I finished a few months ago, and it just occured to me to see if the interview mentioned in the book had made it on to youtube.

I have 6 cats and love them very much [though not as much as my dogs...] and I named one of my hamsters Dewey.

i ever had a cat, and he dead at his years of 8. and it really really made me and my mom cried. and even my dad who never cried for animals, he can't stand on. he cried.

The cute gray tabby cat Tom in his video died a few years ago.I couldn't find much info but a nice lady in that town sent me a write up of Tom in the town paper she had saved,from ten years ago.I e mailed the Chamber of Commerce in that town and they knew someone that could help me out.Think Tom died in 2000.

My husband bought me the Dewey book and at first I too though it would be boring, but started reading it (so as to be polite). Soon, it became apparent that it was so much more than a cat tale. I'm at the last 2 chapters and will donate it to my local library when I'm done. Dewey looked just like my dead cat Momo (except Momo was a shorthair). Like Dewey, Momo was a special cat in that he was the giver and recipient of a lot of love.

I read the book and confess I expectd more. But it's ok, anyway.

Vicki just describes what almost every cat owner already knew: they're incredible and, YES, they love their owners and may love the simply fact of being surrounded by people, like dogs do. Even better since cats will show their love IF that's what they feel. They just don't try to look nice; they're nice IF you deserve it or IF they like you.

I like dogs too, they're great, but it's time for people to know how friendly cats can be

I contacted the Chamber of Commerce in Conrad online and learned that Tom the cat died a few years ago.One nice lady will send me the 1996 newspaper article on Tom.RIP Tom and Dewey!!!! I am so glad that Vicki has her new Dewey lookalike female kitten Page in her life now.Page was found on a snow covered road by a friend of Vicki's.

Oh, I am over the moon to be able to see Dewey. Dewey´s book was a Christmas present from my dear American friend and I read it with delight. I have a "copycat edition" of Dewey at home, a red tabby Norwegian Forest Cat called Huckleberry Finn and he loves books just like Dewey. And Tom in Conrad. He seems to be a great character as well. So friendly, just like my Tom, Tom Sawyer.

I bought Vicki's beautiful book at the airport in stormy Cairns (Australia) at 11am and finished it on the last leg of my journey to canberra at 10pm. I did not put it down once and dreamt about it the night after. Such a beautiful story and such a beautiful cat. Thanks Vicki. Sleep well Dewey.

I remember Vicky talking about this video in her book so I had to get online and see if I could find it, I'm so glad I found it! It's so great to read about Dewey and then being able to get online and watch a video of him! I'm surprised this woman talks about how it's hard to believe a cat can be so loving because those who have cats know how wonderful and special they are! :)
