I was a Marine. I am very proud to have been a Marine, but for the rest of us current or former Marines here.... lets face it guys. This looks harder than what we did at Boot Camp. Im not one of those guys that went the Marine route and think im bad ass.I know Marine Boot Camp and Army Basic Training are pretty much the same thing. Ranger school is MUCH harder than both. I actually think Marines gotta calm down. Look at the Army special forces. WAY more advanced than us in training. Thats Army

Officers have it easy. Most enlisted Infantry Soldiers are lucky to get ONE shot at Ranger School. Officers can go almost as many times as it takes. A lot of Infantry NCO's give up Bonuses and assignment selections in their re-enlistment contracts just for a VERBAL promise of Ranger School. I know a couple fellow NCO's that re-uped for a verbal promise (stupid) and they were surprised when our BN didn't send them. lol

Just a casual observation, but at Marine infantry graduation, the training commander must say something like..."OK, men... Now fire up those laptops and start bragging about how tough we are and how weak and crappy other branches are! Hoorah!"

I just don't see much of that from the other branches. They must be busy doing their jobs. I won't take another last jab at Marines here, since all the ones I've met in person have been savvy, honest, respectable men. I can't imagine how sad a person mu

@UltiimateAero Well yeah there's just no comparison. Ranger School is only 9 weeks while the basic training alone for SEAL's is six months. Rangers is a larger and frankly more expendable group.

Ranger school is a training course, all other branches including foreign militaries use it. Even if you are in a Ranger Battalion, your MOS is still 11B(Light Infantryman). The main difference between a ranger batt, and say the 25th ID, is the mission.

Ranger School is a SCHOOL open to all branches. Upon csuccessful completion, you've earned your Ranger tab and return to your unit. If you came from the Army's 101st Airborne Division, you go back to your unit. You are Ranger qualified, but not a Ranger. Only soldiers from the United States Army can go through RASP(Ranger Assessment and Selection Program) Upon completion of RASP a Ranger is awarded his tan Beret and Ranger Scroll and is assigned to one of the Ranger Bat. 75th Ranger Reg.

You are correct. I have a friend who was a Force Recon Marine (did a tour in Iraq). Some of his training (after he graduated from the initial Force Recon selection training) was with the Army at their Airborne school. He also got HALO qualified and was there with every branch (SEALS, Green Berets, Rangers, other Force Recon Marines, etc.)

The SOF units all train together these days. There's a lot of overlap between the branches.

@SecularTechnology Back in the day they used to send the Recon Marines, at least Force Recon to Ranger school. It was just one part of the training since the USMC didn't have its own jump school. Just another combined DoD thing they do. And for all the cross branch bashing... you guys need to chill. Recon guys would give props to the Rangers, Seals, and everybody else in special mission teams. They work together pretty often completing different parts of a mission. 1 team, 1 fight.
