  • Erin Go Brach Mo Chara

  • Jesus, with all of the debate about what this song truly is I can see where a lot of the hostility towards the American Irish comes from. Some folks are way, way off mark (and obviously of that stock). Though I've always been taught the song was about Grace O'Malley which could be as wrong as any.

  • The song in its original form, Séarlas Óg (meaning "Young Charles" in Irish) refers to Bonnie Prince Charlie and dates back to the second Jacobite rising, during the reign of George II in 1745-6.

In the early 20th century it received new verses by the nationalist poet Padraig Pearse and was often sung by IRA members and sympathisers, during the Easter Rising. It was also sung as a fast march during the Irish War of Indepependance...

  • if you vote yes you are taking a nife a stabing patrick perse in the back spiting on the proclimtion of the irish republic all the martyers would have died for noting plese people just listen to me i am only 15 and i have strong nationalistic views so speak up do you want to be irish or europiean

  • Yes it would be nice if someone over there would tell them to f off. Figured it to be the Irish or Welsh. Hell those asses wont even put Wales on the Ero map! Some one tell them to f off.

  • The Wild Gesse sent to the 'colonies' hear you...

  • Fenians Forever.

  • A true Irish song.

  • It was actually RE-WRITTEN by Pearse it was not a rebellion song but a song calling irelands men back from war's being faught by the brittish, also it was used when the IRB and feinnians along with the IRA (later of course) as a marching song.

Well thats what ive found so far. i may be incorrect but thought i'd share..

    Erin Go Brach,

  • No, it's not. The lyrics were written by Padraig Pearse during the early 20th century and sung as a song of rebellion against the British as the Irish were gaining their independence. The original lyrics (about Searlas Og) and tune date back to the 2nd Jacobite rising. Hard to get more Irish.

  • Well It was originally written by Scottish Gaels rather than Irish ones..

  • lol ya song in irish. Its a song written for a woman who fought the spanish an irish woman so no its not scottish but was rewrote to this version

  • great song,

  • WE HEREBY PROCLAIM THE IRISH REPUBLIC

  • Fantastic tune well done Maxi ders not enough of us bout

  • ( PART II :)) Chorus 'Sé mo léan géar nach bhfeicim Mur mbéinn beo 'na dhiaidh ach seachtain Séarlas Óg is míle gaiscidheach Ag fógairt fáin ar Ghallaibh Chorus Tá Séarlas Óg ag traill thar sáile Béidh siad leisean, Franncaigh is Spáinnigh Óglaigh armtha leis mar gharda 'S bainfidh siad rinnce as éiricigh! Chorus
  • This is the Pierce version of 1916. There are many version of this song - including many Irish/English versions. This is not the Orignal Jacobite version . Correct me if i'm wrong.

  • Here it goes (I'll have to post it in two pieces :)) ORIGINAL JACOBITE VERSION (Chorus) Oró, sé do bheatha abhaile, Oró, sé do bheatha abhaile, Oró, sé do bheatha abhaile Anois ar theacht an tsamhraidh. A Shéarlais Óig[1], a mhic Rí Shéamais[2] 'Sé mo mhór-chreach do thriall as Éirinn Gan tuinnte bróig' ort, stoca nó leinidh Ach do chascairt leis na Gallaibh

  • This is a REBEL tune by the MASTER PADRAIG PEARSE/This is an IRISH song

  • yes. I know that the wolfe tunes sang it. Er where can i get one version of this song?

  • On what album from the wolfe tones i can find this song?

  • I think its on either Rebels & Heroes or The Millenium Collection. Or you can try downloading this clip and seperating the track

  • It was re-written to call irish soilders home from the world war and fight for their own freedom in ireland!!!

  • What you mean re-written???

  • Well yeah lad I think you'll find it's an old English song originally, Padraig Pearse adapted it, I think he wrote it before the Tans war, around the time of the Easter rising but I could be wrong...fair play to the tones top effort lads

  • No....it was an Irish song. Pearse added a verse.

  • Apologies yes it's an old Irish song not an English song...but it is an old Irish song about the Jacobite rebellion, was first called 'Séarlas Óg' meaning 'Young Charles' referring to Bonnie Prince Charlie who led the Forty-Five uprising.

  • Just to point out the song was written long before Pearse. It was written about Prince Charles befor ethe battle of the Boyne. AFAIK Pearse just translated it. Still a brilliant song.

  • Yeah it's an old Jacobite song and I think you'll find it's even older than that too maybe, that is, the tune is older than the Jacobite version

  • ¿quí es el pàjaru que surt de perfil entre lletra i lletra?

  • Oh-ro You're welcome home,

    Oh-ro You're welcome home,

Our fine land in the possession of thieves...

And you sold to the foreigners!

  • Chorus

Grainne Mhaol[2] is coming over the sea,

Armed warriors along with her as her guard,

They are Irishmen, not foreigners nor Spanish...

And they will rout the foreigners!

    Chorus

  • pearse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They should have to play this song every morning that the British parliment opens!

  • your a gas man

  • I hope you meant that as a compliment! I'm Irish, proud to be so, my grandparents were Irish immigrants to this country and spoke the Gaelic, but unfortunately for me, I never really picked it up. However, that doesn't mean that basically, I'm a revolutionary at heart! Ireland has suffered under British domination long enough, and since the British have lost their beloved empire, aside from Ireland, obviously, they are determined to hang onto there last outpost of colonialism!

  • it ain't their last,but anyway.

If you want to was it a compliment then check out mine,I agree with you, thanks.

  • any way you mean ulster?

    26 counties are free

  • There not Free PH pearse said one time The great only appear great , because we are on are knees , let us rise . The American people should take heed from that. and unite against there The Dick chaney clan

  • u mean the 26 counties are nt free? they are,I live there.

    nice phrase alright

it was actually Jim Larkin though, there s a satue of him in dublin city centre with that quotation.

Jim Larkin also set up the USA communist party.

  • Sorry about the spelling , thanks for the info , But i am afraid the Dublin Gov, has been, like Washington dc, have been taking direct orders, from the, Gritish Gov, for many years , of course thats not public information

  • none of the Republic of Ireland s parties are taking any orders what so ever from the Brits,Fianna Fail are in Government,Im not exactly a fan of them(being a member of another party),but I do know that they do not take orders from anyone and never have, thats actually the reason they were set up.

  • Set these wankers straight.

  • except the eu, nato, and the us military at shannon

  • Indeed, you are correct Sir, a quote Big Jim took from Camille Desmoulins

  • just tell Dick the prick he made a mistake. Get the clown out of the white house ..wanker. mad man peace be upon my land

  • I second the motion :)

  • The title means: Óró, you are welcome home! and the chorus: Oro, you are welcome home! Now that the Summer is coming. Hope that helps.

  • Thanks, Pedro! I never learned the Irish from my immigrant grandparents. Sad, but true.

  • No problem. You could pick it up yourself. Just requires some patience. Its worth it.

  • its means get out get out of of our contry

  • Means Grace is coming over with armed warriers, not spanish, or english, and they will route out the foreigners.

  • no not at all.

    U A UNIONIST then?

  • I figured it was an idiomatic expression in song meaning get the fuck out of Ireland, but I never learned the Gaelic from my parents or grandparents. Thanks. Greg

  • It means "welcome home, welcome home" Though that was a good guess.

  • u clearly dont no irish then eh?

  • Oró, Sé Do Bheatha 'Bhaile (You Are Welcome Home)

Se do bheatha a bhean ba leanmhar!

(Welcome Oh woman who was so afflicted)

(It was our ruin that you were in bondage)

Do dhuiche bhrea i seilbh meirleach

(Our fine land in the possesion of theives)

  • Fantastic sound what the fuck does it mean

  • I heard they made Gaelic an official language in E.U now.SCotland has started to bring it back. Its only a couple of % that still speak it in scotland now.I hope they bring it back again.

  • Err no ... Ireland fought for years to have it instated as an official language of the EU - nothing to do with Scotland.

  • A Classic

  • i thought it was padric

  • Maybe it is Sam, I never learned the Gaelic from my parents or grandparents, unfortunately for me. It's a shame I know. Thanks
