you guys are idiot. The Emptiness is from Edgar Allan Poe's poem ""Annabel Lee". And a place where the sun is silent is from Inferno by Dante. They're completely different !
@xWiggleDeezRoots It is hell. The whole album APWTSIS is based off of Dante's Inferno, which is a story about a man's journey through all the circles of hell. If you read the Sparknote for the book, then look at the lyrics to all the songs, the album will make a lot more sense.
Did the voices of the crucified in the end of this song is actually sound that was recorded in Siberia, Russia that is claimed by religious people as sound of purgatory?
@wolfsraingirl123 That's what I had originally thought, but Alesana released a statement a while back saying that 'The Emptiness' is a prequel to 'A Place Where the Sun is Silent' and that they had another album coming in July of 2012
Now every time I finish the Emptiness I'll have to listen to this, then the emptiness, then this. It'll be an endless circle of the Artist's story!! Mind: Blown
@Gimmebunneh the album is not litterally simply about Dante's Inferno, just as The Emptyness is not simply about Edgar Allen Poe's stories, theses albums ARE original stories composed by Alesana, but they have many allusions to E.D.P. and Dante's inferno, Influences if you will

OMG! #Shocked this was the dream he had before he woke up to his dead Anabel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! omggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg!!! EPIC O.O
And on the cover that's the temptress, the house is the house he follwed her into, the light by the trees is the forest he ran through multiple times and kingdom in the upper left corner is the golden city (heaven). :DDD yay for interpretation!(:
@DearAmandaMarie1 Even though I haven't been lucky enough to get the album so I'm just freeballin' here,
an alternative to when he says "This isn't the first time I've had to watch myself die" can also be because they say that when you go to hell, you're forced to repeat your sin for all eternity
If you read the story online It says that in the dream where everything happened he killed the temptress, but then Annabel tells him to wake up. Since it was all a dream he didn't kill the temptress, he killed Annabel.
I can understand how people are getting things all confused, but does it matter? As long as it makes sense to you, and you like it, what else is important? Yes, this song mentions Annabel which is decieving, but these albums are seperate. The Emptiness which Shawn wrote, A Place Where The Sun Is Silent, epic poem ,Inferno, written by Dante. Again, who cares? This album is fucking delecious so is The Emptiness so is Where Myth Fades To Legend, and same with On Frail Wings Of Vanity and Wax!
@Mykal82000 You're kind of wrong dude... it's more like the sequel and prequel. The whole story is him, after annabel kills him, going to hell slowly realizing everything about himself and his love for her. Him waking up to her dead, and showing an endless loop.
@VandersonStudios No no no no no. If you know the Emptiness deeply, you know that before the emptiness, he was going crazy. The "going to Hell" references you're picking up on are just him going crazy.
@VandersonStudios So this album takes place before he wakes to a dead Annabel, the dreams before hand. And it takes place after he is killed and is going to Hell to find her? idk havent really disected it yet but im bad with that anyways lol help an alesana fan out :D
@Zackattack2522 This album is about the hell he goes through and it keeps going round and round. Really I do not understand the hell part yet because I have not read the Inferno yet but it just basically tells us how he is in hell. And it will keep happening.
@alesanasexy me and my friend think that its a loop between the emptiness and APWTSIS where the emptiness happens first then he goes to hell and when he wakes up he goes the emptiness all over again.
@VandersonStudios Ummm your both wrong, If you look up some interviews he says this album is about dantes inferno with kinda mixed with the annabel, idk thats just what ive heard in intreviews..
Yes, unfortunately, this is a prequel to the Emptiness. Alesana is my favorite band and I love them, but honestly, they disappointed me with this ending. In my opinion, they should have left the albums and unrelated stories. The stories just don't mix.
3:34 i get tingles every time i hear her voice even in the emptiness when she says "The emptiness will haunt you" when its her voice alone i feel cold like a monster is speaking to me but i love it so much. Interlude 4 has to be my favorite "Song" off the emptiness just because of her voice
Just for you people who are discussing the two albums, in "A Place Where The Sun Is Silent" It shows a picture on this song of The wanderer with blood over his hands looking at The Temptress in bed who has been slaughtered with a mirror over the head of the bed..... so if this gets you any clues here you go.
@Mykal82000 According to Alesana's official Facebook fan page: "Shawn talks with Noisecreep about how the 14th century poem 'Dante's Inferno' influenced the new album 'A Place Where The Sun Is Silent'" so pretty much, the songs describe the famous poem 'Dante's Inferno' which btw is a great poem.
its is sometimes believed that our punishments in hell take form in our greatest fear or worst memory, so it MIGHT make sense for having to relive that horrible morning over and over again to be the artist/wanderer's eternal punishment...
This album has to be the prequel to The Emptiness. Cuz if you think about it, the Artist says, "I wonder why her flesh has the chill of virgin snow. My thoughts are disrupted as reality hits me like a bold of lightning and I scream." Thus begins The Emptiness story, The Curse of the Virgin Canvas, this is when the Artist wakes to find Annabel dead.
@Naio1342 its not a prequel. its a concept album about the divine comedy (dante's inferno) its about the 7 deadly sins basically...but since its about sins i can see how you would relate it to the artist in the emptiness album.
This doesn't make sense though if this is the prequel to The Artist waking up in The Emptiness to find Annabel dead. Since the majority of the events of The Emtpiness never happened, does that mean that this is like a dream within a dream? So Alesana is basically rewriting Inception.
@mokonaismokona As said by Melissa Milke, "This would be a better question to ask the band. From my standpoint I can assure you it is a prequel. The Emptiness takes place in the mind of a delusional man, not his dreams. Inception came out 6 months after The Emptiness so, No, alesana is not "basically rewriting Inception".
@darkcrusaderXX Well its obviously supposed to be a prequel, but this leaves several questions, namely whether or not The Artist actually had this dream. As we know, Annabel never actually died, so for APWtSiS to end with the Artist finding Annabel dead must mean that APWtSiS never occured either. At the end of APWTSiS, the Artist is killed by Annabel mere moments after he leaves her body and looks in the mirror. This cant be so, as it skips the events of the Emptiness.
@darkcrusaderXX There are a few other plot holes. In The Emptiness the Artist wakes Annabel up because he wants to show her his latest sketch. However at the end of this album he wakes her up to tell her about his dream. Also, at the end of The Emptiness The Artist sees Annabel as she ends his life, but in this album he doesn't bother to open his eyes. The story to The Best Laid Plans also heavily implies that the artist was lead to kill Annabel by The temptress even though it was The Thespian.
@mokonaismokona i just thought of it could be a prequel because he wakes up shes dead someones stabbing him but remember in the end she was never dead durring the emptiness so it was a nightmare within a nightmare and she kills him at the end
I think this song is the sequel to The Emptiness, because if you read the booklet from the Emptiness, this song makes so much sense. I think this song describes the beginning of the story and his point of view after being stabbed by Annabel, the lyrics "My thoughts are disrupted as reality hits me like a bold of lightning and I scream." And the 'we are the crucified" part & the woman talking in the end, i think she's explaining that the sketch artist was sent to hell. THATS JUST WANT I THINK:)
SOOOO THIS ALBUM IS GOING TO BE A SEQUEL TO THE LAST ONE?! LIKE AWESOME!? or am i just stupid and thinking like a retard and getting everything all wrong? O:
@kaguyahiwatari i believe that this is a prequel to the emptiness. the reason i say this is because he awakes nd tries to wake her but finds her dead which might lead into curse of the virgin canvas thts my opinion
@OscarLopezProduction on the Official Alesana Facebook, they posted that if you didnt want to wait to hear the songs that you could follow a link to the album. I think its pretty cool that the band themselves allowed us to hear the songs before the release date :)
