@scarter180 Good thing it's not all about guitar riffs. It's about pouring your heart out and making it beautiful regardless. And people fall in love with it.
That's the way things work, younger fans go searching for bands that influenced bands they like now. Jeremy and SDRE need more fans. That way they can go on tour more and I get to see them.
we all walk through the dark. groping hands flailing for something. this song reminds me of what it felt like to reach out in the dark and have someone there. so i knew i wasnt alone.
Paramore only knows about them because those kids are all religulous and Enigk had a similar religious conversion mid-career. I'm positive that's how anyone of their crappy musical caliber knows about SDRE. It's not because anyone in Paramore actually appreciates good music - of that I am certain.
I remember listening to a few songs like 8 years ago or so and i heard my sister listening to paramore and was like wtf.. i know that .. weird but brought me back here so I suppose that can only be a good thing for anyone brought here.. wonderful music.
My brother showed them to me probably a few years ago before Paramore even came out. They're my favorite band next to The Strokes. And guess who else is in my top 5 bands? Paramore. Get over it.

I got turned on to this band from a friend, he heard me sing and said I reminded him of the singer from SDRE, I was like "Sunny Day What?!" So I wanted to see if I sounded even remotely like this guy, so I looked them up on youtube and the first 3 songs I heard were Seven, In Circles, and Faces in Disguise, from there on I was hooked. Went to the music store close by and bought the only SDRE album they had there, which happened to be the album The Rising Tide. It blew me away. Love this band!

A good 90% of this song is exactly the same riff the entire way through and uses the same kind of technique the entire way through. Just saying. It's not really that great. Even Coldplay could do better, and that's saying something. At least it's better than the Jonas Brothers and all the bubblegum pop, but who isn't?
Okay. I'm probably going to catch a lot of flak for this, but to me, these guys always sounded better together than they do apart. There was always an edge to the songs they wrote together that was melodic yet haunting. I don't hear that with Fire Theft or Jeremy's solo work. It's not what I had hoped it would be. Just my opinion......roast away.
If the Reunion isn't a rumour and acctually goes ahead, all four original members will take part.
Which is great 'cause Dan will be there. He acctually makes up a bigger part of the band than most people think (he was also the frontman for the first year). It alsso means a lot because he didn't want to join the Fire Theft but settled down with his family instead.
The Fire Theft are great - but nothing as good as SDRE.
you are right. SDRE had a power and a passion that is incomparable. I still listen to How it feels to be something on every week at least once, even after hearing it 100 million times. and it still sounds great, still takes me back to the place i was at when i first heard it.
Nice Vid. I enjoyed it. We market properties and other things on youtube, we hope to create a large network of people interested in making money. Your video gets a five star rating from us. I hope you feel the same about ours.
Hmm, I dunno, I can see maybe 3/4 of the band reforming post-Mendel, because I get the impression that Hoerner wouldn't be incredibly interested.
Just a hunch though, don't take my word on it.
At least we have a new Jeremy Enigk album to look forward to sometime in the next few months, and possibly another Fire Theft album sometime in the future.
@Kevbwoy i heard about them through paramore, and now sunny day is my favorite band. i see NOTHING wrong with that. i don't like paramore very much, i'm more into music like sdre. soooo SORRRYYY if that pisses you off or something. -.-
my comment was just ironic because I started to listen to them when I got into the foo fighters. it's great that they are your favourite band now^^ they are in my top 5 of bands as well^^ welcome to the club man ;D
@zomgnoez good for you.. for some of us it reminds us of wonderful things or just great music from several years back and for you its a new frontier of which you seem to have a great appreciation. I love sdre and am glad you do too, welcome to the club.
I actually found out about them in a totally random way. I was bored of all my music at the time, and I decided to search where I had never expected to find anything: the 'emo' genre. The name 'Sunny Day Real Estate' sounded interesting, and that's admittedly the only reason I sampled a few tracks, then got hooked on TRT, then eventually the 3 previous albums.
I so agree with you...what caught me to like them was when they cmae out w/ their first song...I'm thinking "seven" if I am not mistaken. SDRE...trully one of my favorites. :-)
@punk65555 Yeah it's terrible that a younger generation might actually hear Sunny Day and have it be life changing because of some new, current, ridiculously popular and actually somewhat talented band that your too punk to like. what a douche...
@punk65555 Yeah it's a shame that a younger generation might actually check out Sunny Day and have it be a life changing experience because some band you don't think is cool or punk enough actually turned them on to it. What a douche..
Jeremy said in a recent interview that something new could happen with The Fire Theft, but he's concentrating on his new solo album which is due out this January.
I look at all the comments left on the SDRE videos and they all focus on how much better SDRE is than MCR, well Duh a 3 year old could figure that one out. Not sure about a stupid 12 year old though, i got into them when i was 12 and haven't left since.
@kvision88 actually dick, that is my uncle Dan. Im proud to brag about it, cuz it was the first concert i ever went to see (8 years old, Fox Theater, Boulder, CO). Just because he's not your uncle, doesnt mean you gotta hate :)
Love this song. This is real emo. THIS IS NOT USED AS AN OFFENCE. Sunny Day Real Estate and Fugazi and bands like that are the bands that started emo. It died out in the 90s. And since it has died out, it apparently has a different meaning to todays people.
Obviously I would agree that Emo has been non-exsistent for 15 years, however, I wouldn't call SDRE or Fugazi Emo. Sunny Day's Diary was almost like the gateway between Emo and REAL Indie. To give it a definitive genre would be incorrect

they had so much to say..both music & lyrics are intelligent & dreamy in a very special way * those songs are the kind that if touched u once, will always.
it's crazy how youtube brought back these videos..otherweise I would have never seen any live videos of these guys I've always wondered what happend to?
Like how he repeats the same verse the first 3 times..."Tearing in my heart/a mistake from the start" He's refering to the inevitable break up of the band, no? Why else would he sing this part of the verse 4 times? Thoughts??
@scarter180 Good thing it's not all about guitar riffs. It's about pouring your heart out and making it beautiful regardless. And people fall in love with it.

Like how he repeats the same verse the first 3 times..."Tearing in my heart/a mistake from the start" He's refering to the inevitable break up of the band, no? Why else would he sing this part of the verse 4 times? Thoughts??

Easily one of the best songs they wrote. Makes me wish they were still making music together

I've been on the hunt for some footage of Iscarabaid...
Any sources on your side of things??
Outstanding video by the way. This song helped me through a lot of tough times...thanks!

Can't help you out with any Iscarabaid stuff... You should ask for it in the Fire Theft Board. They have everything somewhere.
