Jackies job wasn't to say funny things. It was to write funny things for Howard to say, which was about 90% of what Howard said. Artie had some great stories but he couldn't touch comedy like Jackie could. Not to mention Jackie was the ONLY person on the show that would bust everyone's balls including Robin and Howard. Nobody will say shit about them now.
I'm a Jackie guy.... the show was never the same, in my opinion, after he left. Maybe it was because Artie would only go so far and Jackie would say whatever was in his head. Plus, Jackie was a mean little prick, that's the other thing that made him funny. You gotta have balls to be funny and Jackie had balls.
Jackie made Stern's job so much easier. It's hard to comprehend why Jewboy wouldn't split up the HUGE payroll pie a little more equitably. It seems, Lord Shekel prevailed over the quality of show and it's fans. Shame, shame Jewboy.
I've only been listening to Howard Stern for a bit. I'm from the UK and, well knew of his name for quite a while as it's just one of those legendary / huge names that floats around and is in the media conscious at all times.
But only recently looked into Howard and got what he was all about and then more recently actually started listening to the full shows.
Fucking funny and I've found my American Gervais in him, could just listen for hours. But this Bababooey is a whiney, annoying cunt.
@UltimateSerge I'm not from England. I'm from Wales. The UK is four different countries. I'm right on the border between Wales and England. So it pretty much feels like England but, different country.
As for whether people know him here... well, well yes but it will vary of course. Media figures know of him, people in radio will of course know about him. As for the average person... Howard Stern is one of those names that has become synonymous with entertainment so...
@UltimateSerge So, I gather that a good number of people would recognize his name but not particularly know why. But then maybe if you showed them a picture or explained who he is they'd know him. He's not a huge star here because, well because he built himself on American radio and then moved to Satelite so - that's not very visible here but - no offence back at you but, everybody is bombarded with everything Americana, because America is a superpower so we grow up on US shows etc. too
@UltimateSerge So, we probably have this backwards perception of each other. Because, you may not be aware of how much we're aware of you if you know what I mean.
Because, only a small number of British people become hugely famous in America. Usually actors, comedians or musicians but, you don't get a constant pump of 'our' entertainment like we do yours.
But I gather you've heard of say, Ricky Gervais? and the UK is also responsible for influencing a lot of US comedy and music...
@UltimateSerge The Beatles of course - almost unquestionably the most influential and biggest band of all-time. Then, Monty Python who are essentially The Beatles of comedy and without them there'd be (or almost certainly not be, or not in ITS way) no South Park for example.
But, it's a back and forth of course. Because you also house a lot of legendary things which we borrow from and get influenced by too but... my point is, you only become aware of our HUGE success' where as...
@UltimateSerge Where as, we're aware of basically all of yours. Because UK channels buy / import US shows so we get all your sitcoms and of course watch American movies on main release, as do the rest of the world. Where as, you see dribs and drabs of our culture(s).
And, again, no offence to you personally but other Americans have said this to me that - most Americans have practically zero knowledge of things outside of America lmao. And, I know that's a cliche' stereotype but...
@UltimateSerge But, wherever I go online, it only seems to be confirmed.
But, that's not to bash the US. As, a lot of my heroes are American, almost all the greatest movies are American and a ton of my favourite comedies are American - Curb, Arrested Development, Larry Sanders etc.
But uh, yeah maybe the average person here wouldn't be too familiar with Stern. But I'm not the 'average' person. I'm obsessive, I'm into comedy, and entertainment and, I look across all boards so to speak.
Artie is wayyyyy funnier than Jackie, but ever since Artie came, Howard Stern changed, he made Artie do all of his dirty work. Jackie was the shows greatest writer, and Billy West was the funniest person on the show.
hhhaaahah.. those scary teeth and lips.. jackie was great with the one liners and insults.. but i still like artie.. sometimes jackie would be so annoying the way he would sometimes laugh so hard when no one else was.. obviously he was laughing at his own jokes he wrote for Howard.. and jackie would get mad at stupid stuff.. and always acting like a bitch during his contract negotiations.. but he was funny. . i like them both
I hate to disagree with the general consensus, but Artie's impressions make me laugh more than Jackie ever did. Personally, I think the whole show has kind of gone downhill, I like the old shows better myself but I don't think it has anything to do with Artie.
Jackie's Bababooey is great on here tho (I love when he says "com-poo-rtuh").
Fred does the best bababooey. Back in the day when Billy West did the Jackie puppet and Fred did the Gary puppet. That was the greatest. I also have to disagree with you. Since Jackie left the show took a dive bomb fall. Not to mention Billy West left. The show had a reincarnation with Gilbert Gottfried and they got rid of him too. Oh well.
@spaceb808080 Jackie wasn't funny on the show, but Howard, Fred, and Robin were so much funny impression Jackie, and those 3 together with Booey are so much more funny than Artie ever was.
Baba Booey should smuggle diamonds in his teeth. Nobody's goin' near that breath.
