@recon205 I think the ipowerbuy one would be better. With the 3.3GHz processor (mine can be 4.0GHz). The Radeon HD 6850 Video Card should run at max settings with mine being a Radeon 4350 and no lag on the high settings. Yeah that should work mine runs fine.
If the traveling for little times bothers you, just remember thats what makes the special thrill of this games combat, you dont get that thrill in cod as an enemy is on the other side.

@priestskorge it's not a little kids game who's IQ is in the single digits. This game is for big boys, little one, keep playing call of Doo Doo with the other snotty nosed little ones and stay happy that you can stab someone from 68 feet away like magic.
This game looks more like real life than any game I have seen thus far. Not it's not perfect but for those of us who have been there this is a pretty decent looking game from a realism stand point.

@delpimpo well about the mac part, i dont really know and you should take it to other more official technical forums, from your rig, your RAM is good, probably your proccessor will slow you down, but you would barely notice, and the graphics card wont do it, so i really recommend chaning the mac/pc or taking this question to other specialized forums.
@delpimpo Just set your computer up to dual boot.Its actually really simple.I have linux and i tried to game on VM and its just to slow all your cpu power gets eating up.Wine and things like crossover are just garbage causes nothing but headaches and when you finally get the game installed it runs really slow.I get 5fps in Counter strike source and i have cpu similar to yours.As for your actual hardware specs i dont really know i havent tried to play it.The recommended specs are usually wrong
To tell you, for realism you should play Arma 2. But, also download the mod Project Reality for it. THis way, Arma 2 would become extremely realistic.
Or you can download battlefield 2 and install the Project Reality mod for BF2

@megamanacses Ive been gaming for 12 years sure i dont know shit, I said what the requirements are in plain english and i put then im minimum. Cant be hard to understand you need atleast a Dual Core processor with around 2.0 and a Graphiccard that isnt too old and if ur interest in how much memory it needs it needs atleat 500 Mbit, And then comes HDD and ram ofcourse.
I'm used to Battlefield 2, and if Battlefield 3 is just another crappy console port, if Arma 2 like BF2 in game play? As for my rig, I'm going to be building a new one next year so the spec will eat up any PC game.
I always have problems with this game, I think it may have something to do with my RAM, 9-9-9-28 timings with 1600mhz speed. I have 2x 6970 in cf and I get terrible stuttering when the game is streaming off the hdd, given that I have a 7200rpm I still have heard it's still possible to play it with a normal hdd instead of a ssd.
What would you recommend for a PC and specs for playing this on medium to high settings? I'm going to invest in a new PC almost specifically for this game because it's so awesome. Any ideas?
@Nebraska2155 for arma 2 you need a beast..so probably $2000..i7@4.0ghz with a decent video card and 6 gigs ram would be perfect. If you are able to run ARMA 2 with high settings and relatively smooth fps, you will run 99.9% of games with 100+ fps.the best card out for the money right now from nvidia is probably gtx570...( roughly 10% slower than gtx 580 but around 200$ cheaper. BUT if you overclock it, it will beat stock 580) get that with i7, good PSU and ram, and u set for a couple of years..

@Nebraska2155 no you wont be able to play on normal...you see this game is optimized SO BADLY that even top of the line pc's cannot run it at a constant 60fps+...you would be lucky to get 25fps on lowest settings...(im talkuing about campagin missions..if you play custom missions or online, your performance would be better-but not by much).
@Nebraska2155 This game likes powerful cpu's, but unfortunately yours is very outdated...you can buy AMD phenom x2 940 quad core cpu for 89$..i upgraded from AMD 4600+ 2.4ghz to phenom IIx4 3.0hgz and i was amazed at the performance diff..ALL games now ran on high settings...

@xMithras The voices in Arma 2 aren't bad. It's just the english ones because I can pretty much garintee they were the last to be added in and Bohemia didn't want to waste another 20mb on .Wav files. The voices that AREN'T in English sound great.

For those of you asking how well you think you could run this, type in "can you run it" into the google and a link called systemrequirements . net or something similar will appear. From there you can select the game from a drop down list and it will analyse your computer and tell you if/how well you can run most games.

@ukguy The reason the voice acting sounds so strange is simply becouse your fellow soliders reacts to the enviroment, so they need to know how to talk. With this system, your fellow soliders can pinpoint enemies exact positions. First they pick the word for the unit they have spoted, then they find the word for the distance, then they find the word that pinpoints where they've saw the enemy. With a map of 225 kvm recording every single option would give millions of recorded sentences.
when they make a game like this that can be controlled with a console style controller and not mouse/keyboard then i'll get it, but until then i'd rather play something more fun like Black ops.

@megamanacses Ive been gaming for 12 years sure i dont know shit, I said what the requirements are in plain english and i put then im minimum. Cant be hard to understand you need atleast a Dual Core processor with around 2.0 and a Graphiccard that isnt too old and if ur interest in how much memory it needs it needs atleat 500 Mbit, And then comes HDD and ram ofcourse.

I always have problems with this game, I think it may have something to do with my RAM, 9-9-9-28 timings with 1600mhz speed. I have 2x 6970 in cf and I get terrible stuttering when the game is streaming off the hdd, given that I have a 7200rpm I still have heard it's still possible to play it with a normal hdd instead of a ssd.

@Nebraska2155 for arma 2 you need a beast..so probably $2000..i7@4.0ghz with a decent video card and 6 gigs ram would be perfect. If you are able to run ARMA 2 with high settings and relatively smooth fps, you will run 99.9% of games with 100+ fps.the best card out for the money right now from nvidia is probably gtx570...( roughly 10% slower than gtx 580 but around 200$ cheaper. BUT if you overclock it, it will beat stock 580) get that with i7, good PSU and ram, and u set for a couple of years..

@Nebraska2155 no you wont be able to play on normal...you see this game is optimized SO BADLY that even top of the line pc's cannot run it at a constant 60fps+...you would be lucky to get 25fps on lowest settings...(im talkuing about campagin missions..if you play custom missions or online, your performance would be better-but not by much).

@Nebraska2155 This game likes powerful cpu's, but unfortunately yours is very outdated...you can buy AMD phenom x2 940 quad core cpu for 89$..i upgraded from AMD 4600+ 2.4ghz to phenom IIx4 3.0hgz and i was amazed at the performance diff..ALL games now ran on high settings...

Could I play on at least Low detail? I can run OF2:DR on low pretty flawlessly, so I'm not holding my breath on ARMA2. Anyway, here are my stats, and a reply would be much appreciated.

@xMithras The voices in Arma 2 aren't bad. It's just the english ones because I can pretty much garintee they were the last to be added in and Bohemia didn't want to waste another 20mb on .Wav files. The voices that AREN'T in English sound great.

For those of you asking how well you think you could run this, type in "can you run it" into the google and a link called systemrequirements . net or something similar will appear. From there you can select the game from a drop down list and it will analyse your computer and tell you if/how well you can run most games.

@ukguy The reason the voice acting sounds so strange is simply becouse your fellow soliders reacts to the enviroment, so they need to know how to talk. With this system, your fellow soliders can pinpoint enemies exact positions. First they pick the word for the unit they have spoted, then they find the word for the distance, then they find the word that pinpoints where they've saw the enemy. With a map of 225 kvm recording every single option would give millions of recorded sentences.
