  • This is epic!

  • @OoandyXx Yeah, I love battle reenactments!

  • @Bullets632 The reason there are female soldiers in the video is because the Russian army had no gender restrictions for military service.

  • well what i gatherd is the russions got the gumans to pall back to thar last strong pont

  • i would love to do this the only problem is i dont have a complete uniform and where would you find a places to do renactments

  • @Commanderfox945 Well if you wanted to you can get parts for uniforms at at the front.com and join a local reenactment group.

  • lol a woman fighting on the line in WW2 that is belivable

  • 3:24 lol

  • @lugnut2304 :P That is a great moment!

  • I just started looking at this topic because one of my friends does this subbed!

  • @spartons222 Cool!

  • how do u no when u get shot

  • @hetman803 In public events it's sort of the honor system- if you feel someone aimed right then you go down. These are more for a good show for the public than being realistic.

When they do private tactical events, then there are referees & rules and the whole thing is done much more realistically.

  • @hetman803 you feel a hit

  • they need to make it as intense as saving private ryan

  • @67chevy7 They are kind of limited when doing public battles- it needs to be laid out in front of the audience so the action can be easily seen, etc.

In their private tactical battles, it's a lot more realistic.

  • were did they get the russian uniforms at???

  • @mrv2rocketman I'm not sure where they got the Soviet uniforms, but this is a great link for anything to do with reenacting for every time period-

    reenactor (dot) net

  • Hm, does not look like combat. You should train a little more in tactics...(not to win, but to make it look like combat. Its not enough to have the nice gear, but also to know what combat looks like). I am sure there are enough sources also for civilians to get known to that.

  • @Cougar545x39 When they do private exercises, it's more realistic, but when they perform for an audience, they want to be more visible, do it in a small area, etc., so for these public events, it's more about putting on a good show than being tactically correct.

  • Very nice, love the reenactment!

  • I wish i could do something as bad-ass as this

  • where those real guns shooting blanks or airsoft? either way this was mad cool thanks for sharing this with the internet

  • @musicfreak8580 Blanks. They go by the honor system and if it looks like the guy shooting at them would have hit them, then they choose to be wounded or killed- I've heard that on really hot days, especially with Civil War reenactors in those heavy wool uniforms, casualty rates go up as people choose to die and lie on the ground a lot more often!

  • how do you join a reenactment

  • I don't see how the Germans lasted that long....totally flanked like that. And what have they against the Soviet armor? Where's the flak cannon Stukas? LOL

  • 4:06 its like AHHH FOR THE MOTHERLAND AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! epic! i love it!

  • If you're worried about the price, but really love history and want to do reenacting, consider doing the Soviets. They are the cheapest. Real Mosin-Nagant is legal in every state in the US, and is an average of $100. If you buy smartly, a basic private's uniform equipment and weapon will cost you about $500 bucks. After that, you'll have to worry about buying blank ammo, stripper clips, event fees, unit costs, etc. So it still costs something, but is cheaper than reenacting the other countries.

  • So in general, Soviets will be the cheapest, and reenacting the Germans is the most expensive. I'd estimate Soviets<Brits<Americans<Germans in the price scale. The reason Soviet stuff is cheaper is because the market is full of it. After the Union fell, their rifles flooded the US market, and there is tons of real surplus gear and uniforms that the USSR stored. German surplus gear, which is almost nonexistant today, is very rare, has to be remade, and is therefore more expensive.

  • cool

    Thambz up!

  • @Domas151 Thanks! :D

  • what did you use for the guns?

  • @AirsoftingSuccess I only go to watch, so I'm not a reenactor myself. But I believe it's a mixture of real and replica guns-the real ones, in decent shape would be rather expensive, plus I imagine in some parts of the country, not to mention the world, there are very strict gun laws that might make using the real thing more difficult.

  • @AirsoftingSuccess we use real weapons firing blanks, and some weapons ( like the mg42 ) are origonal real bodies but are using propone or green gas to make the sound

  • Russia Ftw!

  • @GangstaThug15

:D I think that's one of the cool things about reenacting- people can get a bit of a feel for what it was like not just for soldiers back then, but those from other countries!

  • wow this is really cool Rog! i wish i could be apart of a reenactment!

  • Thanks Steev! Yeah, I love going to reenactments! There's one at Fort Stevens on the coast, where the Germans had a mortar pit & the Americans "fired" a bazooka at it- they set off an explosive charge that threw a dummy dressed as a German soldier 20 feet in the air!

    :P

It's fun to watch but I'd love to get into reenacting-but it's pretty expensive with the uniform & equipment and stuff! But it definitely would be fun!

  • how do you get the gear for these things

  • ummm how do u join this i in the civil-war reenactment. do you have to buy gear and weapons, or is it provided??

  • @zXOuterHaveanXz I sent you some links.

  • um buy it from them or ebay

  • @gunwiz96 Great idea about going to ebay!

  • yea but alot of that stuff isnt great but where i got my stuff was hessenantique if you have the money get it

  • @gunwiz96 Yeah, that's definitely something to think about- it's not cheap to buy a lot of the equipment and you want to be sure you're getting something that's worth what you're paying!

  • yeah i got this canteen from this guy and he said it was like new and i dropped it and it broke it was old nasty looking wood and i pay 100$ and went to hessenantique and got one used in ww2 for $40 and they store their items with care

  • Oh! That really stinks! That is one of the good things about buying stuff from someone on Ebay that has sold a lot of stuff and gets good ratings from people- it makes it unlikely they'll cheat you. When you don't know someone & they haven't sold much you can't know.

Basically, that guy stole from you- especially when he tells you it's like new- that was a total lie!

  • yeah i got mad and go my money back

  • Oh! That's great! You're lucky you were able to get it back! And it was even better that you found them for a lot less!

  • yea well my gf is italian its her or the stuff and alot of it was my dads dads stuff from ww2 well that i dont half to get rid of its the flags i need help her or my stuff

  • That's cool!

  • yeah how do yo sign up for ww2 reenactatment?

  • @gunwiz96 get the uniform and gear and weopon, find a unit near you look up ww2 reenacting in your state

  • @RogCBrand lol gess thats why they ran out of money to keep up with the west 8D

  • LOL!

  • how do you buy the k98 rifles with blank rounds? :)

  • I've seen all kinds of vendors for all the different stuff for reenacting on a lot of websites.

  • thanks:)

  • btr-76 dont think they had those in world war 2 lol

  • @panzerbait1911 LOL! It was all part of a secret time travel project initiated by Stalin!

  • i wanna be russia in one of these things. reenact stalingrad. THATD BE SWEET!

  • LOL! Yeah, that would be perfect in some area with lots of abandoned warehouses.

  • I would want to be German, just for the fun of being the bad guy.

  • Plus the Germans had more of the coolest equipment than anyone else!

  • too much wind but the rest is good

  • Thanks! You're right- my digital camera takes decent vid, but the microphone does not like wind at all!

  • this looks really fun.. how do they get ready for these?

  • They do a lot of tactical exercises, that are more realistic to actual combat- the guys spend a lot of time together, training and living out what it was like to be soldiers in WW2.

  • How do you know you got hit??

  • There are some rules but a lot of it is based on the honor system.

  • thnks alot man

im 14 and in 2 years i can join a reenactment group i live in australia but where i am there isnt many reenactment groups around but over east theres heaps. I love german ww2 gear and firearms and of course history

  • Yeah I grew up loving to read about all history but especially military & it's great how reenactments give us a little taste of what it was like!

That's too bad there aren't any near you! It's kind of the same out here-back in the eastern part of the U.S. there's a lot more & bigger groups & events. But if you're really into it, I'm sure you wouldn't mind traveling a ways to take part & though you've got a couple years until you can, that gives you time to buy all the equipment you'll need.

  • there is 1 group 1 hour away from me its an africa korps group

i would love to buy some of the gear i have been saving for 3 years and have enough for the top pants helmet boots and a backpack the rifle but ill leave that to my dad lol hes abit unsure about guns.

oh and with mortars what do the rounds look like and what happens when they hit the ground u cant use real 1ns.

    thanks

  • That's great! Not too far away, and it sounds like you could travel with them back east to the events! And you'll definitely have all the equipment by then.

I come from a hunting family & my dad must have between 100 & 200 various guns. My brother, who joined the Marines 15 years ago, has a lot of WW2 weapons-German, Russian, America & has talked of getting into reenacting, but as he's still in the military, served in Iraq & is now in South Korea, he won't have a chance until he retires.

  • As for the mortar rounds, in the rules any projectiles have to be no more than 10 ounces & have a foam tip, that way even if they hit someone there's no way it could injure them. I believe they can do the same thing for things like bazookas, panzerfausts & schreks, etc., though those may only be fired at vehicles.

I do like having stuff like mortars included though, as it adds a bit of randomness to the battle-no one knows exactly where the rounds will land & who'll get hit!

  • im gonna go on a limb and say one of the rules is that you cant stay alive throughout the entire day?

  • From the WW2 and Civil War reenactments I've gone to, I figure about 1/3 of the winning side are casualties and over 2/3 of the losing side, with the remaining survivors being taken prisoner, though every battle is a little different.

  • yea, that makes sense.

  • and waht is if you got hit @ the start of a round do you have to play the killd guy the holle day?

  • LOL! Well, the whole battle, but the battles are less than an hour, so it's not very long, and most of the one's I've gone to have a morning battle and an afternoon battle.

But, outside of the few public events, the guys do a lot of tactical operations without public viewing, where they take things a lot more seriously & try to use realistic tactics, etc.

-to put on a show for the public they have to pretty much be out in the open, etc. & not as realistic.

  • ok thx

i think this is great you have fun and you can living history

  • Yeah! I enjoy reading about history- from ancient times to recent- but there's something about seeing the clothing & equipment and having people try to show you how the stuff was used- they can't perfectly duplicate the real thing but it's still done pretty well- not only World War 2, but Civil War & near where I live is where the Mountain Men gathered to form the first government of the Oregon Territory, so they reenact that, with the early 1800's muskets, fur trapping stuff, etc.

  • so with blanks how do u know how u have been hit

  • It's mainly a matter of the honor system but I'll send you a link to some rules that are used.

  • they use replica guns that can only fire blanks

  • The reenacting regulations state-

"Weapons must be of pre-June 1945 military type used by the unit portrayed or an acceptable replica. "

  • They use real guns with blanks. That's one of the biggest expenses when putting together their uniform and equipment!

  • Yeah, when they pretend to get hit, they'll remain lying there for the rest of the battle.

  • So Awesome =)

    Brings this to S. California

Are the uniforms affordable, a good one at least?

  • I've looked at the uniforms and equipment for sale at the reenactments and online and it is a bit expensive, but I figure if someone is getting into it, then you can use the stuff for many years, so it would balance out over time.

  • i made a soviet partisan uniform with only 90$ got the cap for 5$ belt with ammo pouches and grenage bag thing, canteen for 20$ backpack for 10. i just got some ww2 eral cotton clothing, made it a little riped up and got some leather boots. 50$ right there. and the rest was blanks for my mosin. the baseball caps in the vid were shit btw.

  • That's great when you can get into reenacting for only about $200 on the uniform!

  • how can u tell if ur hit??? arent the bullets blanks? i mean like do paint come out of them or what?

  • Yeah, they are blanks. It's all on the honor system. I know that with Civil War reenactments I've gone to, where they have a battle in the morning and another in the afternoon, they let one side win then the other, so I figure on the side that is supposed to win guys are less likely to "die". I've also heard that on really hot days, guys get tired a lot quicker & are more likely to choose to die, so they can just lie there!

    :P

  • woah i didnt know woman fought in the red army!?!?!?!?!?!?! lol jk nice vid

  • A little while back I saw that there was going to be a movie made about "The Night Witches", those female Soviet pilots that flew the old biplanes at night and would drop small bombs on the Germans, more to keep them all awake than do any real damage! It could have been good, but it looks like it was canceled!

  • LOL! Yeah, for the Germans, very old and very young can be Volksturm, and for the Russians they can be partisans and bottom of the barrel replacements from places like Stalingrad! It's great that so many people can take part if they want!

  • mg42 bad ass shit

  • Yeah! It has to be up there as one of the all time coolest weapons, but especially in it's time! It would be funny to have a demonstration with the MG42 and a Japanese Type 92. Kind of like comparing a race car to a golf cart!

    :D

  • when i saw the old guy with the ppsh on the ground

"dead' i laughed so hard lmao

  • LOL! Yeah! That was funny!

    :D

  • Yeah, part of the fun of going to these is getting to see the equipment and weapons they bring!

  • 3:25 hahah been there before

  • LOL!

  • how do you no when your shot

  • Ah, that is by the honor system- and I think it also depends on how things are going- they don't want the reenactment to end too soon.

I've also heard that on very hot summer days, especially in Civil War reenactments where they are wearing those thick wool uniforms, guys will tend to choose to be shot more quickly so they can collapse to the ground!

    :P

  • hahah i love my ss uniform but i do that alot in public events hahaha

  • LOL! I think I would too! I'm not a fan of hot weather!

  • Ive heard that too! Imagine one person fires then half of a company falls to the ground. THAT would be a funny sight to see.

  • LOL! I wonder if that has happened before! It sounds like something that could!

    :P

  • dam i love tho reenactect i did it one time with a older friend i was a hitleryouth guy because im only 13 but how old do you need to be for bigger reenactemtns

  • Cool! I know I've seen a lot younger people involved in the Civil War reenactments than the World War 2. I believe the age requirement is 16 though, possibly due to insurance issues- every organization has to be worried about being sued if anything goes wrong.

  • Yeah, even here they are pretty small! There are only a handful of spots across the country where they really get into it big time.

I've thought before that if I ever won millions of dollars I'd try to set up a local reenacting group, with my brother, cousins, nephews, their friends and others who wanted to do it! It would be really fun, especially if you had the money to buy a couple of jeeps, a tank, halftrack, etc., plus lots of the weapons!

    :P

  • This is a good hobby to have. I'm not a WW2 reenactor but I'm in Civil War reenacting. I might start WW2 reenacting when I'm older.

  • Cool! I love Civil War reenactments too!

  • LOL! Yeah, that was my favorite moment!

    :P

  • nice about time someone did a ww2 thing

  • Hey Conker! It is fun going to these reenactments! It's sort of like being in the middle of filming for a war movie!

  • yea =3 only down side is the wind is very bad on the sound D=

  • Yeah, for a digital camera it takes fairly good video, but still the quality of the picture and the sound, especially when it's windy, tends to suffer!

  • maybe if its windly and not much talking or gun shots are going on cut it out and add mucis then get rid of the music for the good parts...just an idea.

  • Yeah, or I could have lowered the volume at those parts.

  • At 2:06, was that a Mortar?

Nice job filming, always wanted to be in one of these.

  • Thanks! Yeah it's a real mortar & it fires that plastic projectile and the rules are that anyone within a certain range of where it lands is a casualty- one of the cool things!

A few years back I was at a reenactment on the coast at Fort Stevens and the Germans had one & the Americans "fired" a bazooka at the mortar crew and there was this explosion, lots of smoke & a body went flying into the air! They had a maequin dressed as a German soldier with an explosive charge for that-it was cool!

  • cool footage, i always wanted to participate in one of these.

  • Thanks!

  • What the heck are these reenactors doing? they are just chraging at each other back and forth and no one is taking hits....i am a reenactor myself....and this looks funny

  • LOL!

  • Oh, I wondered about that too, but I think part of it is, because there are so few reenactors involved, they don't want the reenactment to end too early- for all the spectators. So they draw it out. I got to go back to Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania a few years ago to see their Battle of the Bulge reenactment and it was cool to see one with so many participants, and equipment, but out here there just aren't that many guys into it.

  • All ww2 reenactors go by an honor system of just watching for the muzzle flash of an enemy shooting at you...thats how you tell if your dead. Also most public displays are reenacting a certain battle that actually took place. Reenactors also have private reenactments called tacticals that is all about who controls the most land of the battlefield. These are closed to the public.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • But, thats not proper then, alot were hit by random bullets firing through trees and bushes and stuff, and what if you didn't see them when they shot you?xD

  • LOL!

I do know for every public reenactment they have many private events that are more serious & have things like snipers-with special rules for them & actually have referees who make calls on things-the sniper will have a ref with him who decides with the conditions, etc. if he gets a hit & if he stays hidden, etc.

I guess with the public events they are more determined to make a good show- they have to stay mostly visible so people can enjoy it. My brother & I always wanted to do it!

  • what do they use to tell whos dead.. just guess, or like rubber bullets?

  • There are certain rules many reenacting groups use- like anyone within a certain distance of the mortar shell when it lands is hit.

But otherwise it's mostly based on the honor system, and it seems to work well, as the people involved are more concerned about making things look realistic than "winning".

Though I wonder sometimes if someone who is tired might "choose" to die early so they can lie there!

    :P

  • Thanks! Yeah, I love that part! :P

  • I am sorry, but Russian looks quite funny

  • LOL! They were a motley group!

The thing is, it's mainly American/German with some Canadian in most reenactment groups and the Salem area Russian group is one of the few in the country- I think maybe it's because that part of Oregon has a lot of Russian immigrants, so maybe they want to reenact the roles of their ancestors. Though it could also be that they enjoyed the movie "Enemy At The Gates"?

  • is there any reenactments in calgary, canada? i once went to this heritage park and the only reenactment is the 1800' warfare's

  • I've noticed that there are very few Canadian groups or events of any reenacting periods, just as certain regions of the U.S. seem to have more and others have very little. I've been searching for an hour & haven't found any WW2 events anywhere in Canada.

If I find anything I'll send you the links in a message.

  • wher can I go to see reenactments in the us?

    I love these!

none by my area tho :(

  • There are some scattered all over the country, though they aren't always well publicized. What part of the U.S. do you live in?

  • midwest/illinios

  • I'm not sure how far you can travel to events, but there are some in that part of the country. I'll send you links. If you're able to go see one it's a blast!

  • hey, this looks vaguely familiar :P

  • LOL! This is the abridged edition!

    :P

    Hope you're doing good Tom!

  • that was funny when that dead german soldiers leg was on the smoke grenade and like rolled down.

  • LOL! Yeah! For a split second I was worried he might have been burned but it seemed it just startled him so I laughed!

  • in my family i had 2 relatives that fought in world war 2.

  • Cool! You should get video of you interviewing them on stuff they remember from the time- something you can keep long after they are gone and show your kids and grandkids one day!

  • actually they are dead now but my grandpa has his dads world war 1 banynot!

  • Aw, I'm sorry, but that is neat about your great grandpa's bayonet! It's just neat to have some piece of equipment from a historic time like that, but a whole lot better to have a family connection to it! It would be neat if you inherit it one day! You'd need to build up a collection of old guns and stuff to go with it!

    :D

  • Yeah! It's a great place- and the Space museum opened a couple months ago, which makes it even better! But I still have a huge wish list of things I wish they'd get!

    :D

  • That was awesome and realistic! :D It got really intense! :O

  • Thanks guys!

LOL! Yeah! I figure sometimes they get a little too into it and maybe someone takes a rifle butt to the jaw a little to hard or something!

    :P

  • Wrestling is half the fun sometimes. We are all friends in the group that is in this video. The SS nco in that video split his chin open and was laughing about it that afternoon.

  • Ouch! I can imagine in the "heat of battle" there are going to be the occasional injuries! But there is something about things being less painful when you're having fun!

Hope I get the chance to see you guys there again next year, and maybe at other events!

  • woah, thats so cool. But some of those guys got shot a lot! haha

  • Hey Jordan!

LOL! Yeah! I think it may be to keep the battle exciting with lots of kills, but making sure there's enough guys to continue the battle so it doesn't end too fast! As it is the battles last less than half an hour, so you always wish it would go on longer!

  • That is so interesting! Sorry I haven't commented in a while but I just wanted to chip in my 2 rubels worth. As a history buff I found this most cool!

  • LOL! Spasibo!

    :D

Yeah, I've loved history since I was little and wars/battles happen to be major points where a great deal of history is made in a short time and World War 2 saw the most in all human civilization!

  • thats soo cool, i want to go see one now :)

  • Hey Nick! I'll see if I can find any that are in your area- I think they started a long time ago in the Midwest so you guys might have some of the biggest and best out there!

  • Thanks Eddie!

    Hope you're doing good!

  • awesome! i really liked the battles!

  • Thanks Curtis!

    :D

  • hah! the battles were kinda sloppie in some parts

  • LOL! Yeah! They definitely don't have a script to go by! I guess that would make it tougher to do- they'd really need to do some practice battles, etc., but it would be cool to have a battle that was made to look as realistic as possible!

  • Wow, that looks awesome! Fantastic vid!

  • Thanks Callum!

  • awsome
