@staaswellcharge there isn't a proper name, but people call it "Chapeu de Couro" meaning "Leather Hat" used by the people in the backlands of the Brazilian Northeast or in Portuguese "Sertão Brasileiro".

Simply awesome!!! David Byrne continues to be in the vangard, crossing all the preconceived notions of traditional music. The love of my life is from MG and lives to dance forro... I have loved the music of David Byrne since the early 80's. He has just opened my eyes to a whole new way to view the music not simply as a backdrop to the dance but as a bridge between cultures...

I have mixed feelings about this. David gives a good performance and I'm glad he's promoting Brazilian music to American audiences.

But at the same time, I think that translations of songs rarely work. When a song is translated, words must be changed to maintain the rhythm, and then it's simply not the same song. Better to sing in the original language and post English subtitles.

yeah its like a railroad song too - it's had an English influence, "For All" , and I'll bet there a bunch more lyrics in English - as there certainly are in Portuguese. The band seems a little off pitch, but just as well they are digging it.

This is not a bad version at all and David Bryan´s work on taking Brazilian music especially Forró is fantastic.

I have the CD of Forró in the Dark and this is by far the best song on it.

I ask the band to use the triangle more (as in this song) and use the wind flute or pipe (whatever it is less) as it sounds Peruvian

I would though like to congratulate them for coosing the best music in the world to try and interpret.
