I said he's not a standard one. I mean, he was there in the same yrs, he was looking at Neorealist movie, they were all artist having contact each other, speaking and sharing (you said Rossellini, he also wrote a scene for Fellini's la dolce vita).
Pasolini's work is completely different, I agree on that; but I can also feel by looking at it (try to read his novels, actually I had that feeling there) that his work was in some way Neorealist, not "standard" but yes, he "was on that track".
I was writing about Fellini - not Pasolini, whose films are definitely closer to Neorealism (even though they were made years after the end of the movement).
By the way, Pasolini's novels (expecially Ragazzi di vita) are surely close to social realism, but they were all written when Neorealism was already over. We shoud not cosider any realistic Italian film or book as "Neorealistic": it's also a matter of time. Fellini and Pasolini are definitely out of it.
The reason its so hard to take is because Pasolini doesn't sugar-coat anything. A film about fascism (humanity pushed over the edge) must in and of itself be over the edge.

here they don't show the part of the eyeball pulled off... yeah I was 15 years old and I must say that it shocked me at the same time deligheted me for provocking that sensation on me, wich the best sensation someone can have watching a movie.
But in these very last scenes, the last 10, 20 minutes (dunno how long it is) the audio-visual presentation changes considerably. There is the stunning music from Carl Orffs Carmina Burana (veris laeta facies) accompany the awful tortures (like snipping an eye out with a knife). So be aware when you watch the movie that the really unsettling moments come at the end.
It was just that mixture I found in de Sade novels - many disgusting content like naked youngsters pushed around and of course a huge mass of real brown excrements which some others shall eat. But all of this in such a boring manner that no-one really could be shocked.
As many of you I once took delighted the chance to watch this movie at our local cinema. I knew it had to do with Marquis de Sade and were curious how a high qualified director would deal with this. Then nearly the whole movie didn't shock me at all.
Why is the audio always jacked up in these clips? Bummer.

...dai fascisti è che fra i partigiani potevano anche esserci degli stronzi, e sicuramente c'erano come ci sono in qualsiasi gruppo sociale, ma mentre i fascisti praticavano genocidi per ideologia, i partigiani, quelli che hanno fatto qualcosa di male, li praticavano per iniziativa personale.
Credo ci sia una grossissima differenza fra persone che predicano la giustezza di un omicidio e persone che fanno guerriglia contro un oppressore, fra le quali c'è qualche mela marcia.

This movie scarred me for life. I have been way more depressed, constantly since seeing over a year ago. I can understand a fucked up guy in prison way back in the day writing it, because he was crazy and had nothing else to do. I'm glad the director was killed.

hello! please, don't be so ignorant buddy! pasolini is an italian artist which everyone should respect. in this horrendous movie he tried to explain in a very abstract way how destructive and pervert the italian fashism was. don't understand this movie as a snuff film or stuff like that. you should be more scared of real life and history than this artwork.

no he has to do with neo-realism, he can't be considered a "standard" neo-realist but he has been grown with realism so in a way he is on the same track, but he's genius and go much further than that.

No. The only relation he had with Neorealism was the collaboration with Rossellini. His movies (maybe except Luci del varietà) have nothing to do with Neorealism. He's by no means "on the same track".

I said he's not a standard one. I mean, he was there in the same yrs, he was looking at Neorealist movie, they were all artist having contact each other, speaking and sharing (you said Rossellini, he also wrote a scene for Fellini's la dolce vita).
Pasolini's work is completely different, I agree on that; but I can also feel by looking at it (try to read his novels, actually I had that feeling there) that his work was in some way Neorealist, not "standard" but yes, he "was on that track".

I was writing about Fellini - not Pasolini, whose films are definitely closer to Neorealism (even though they were made years after the end of the movement).
By the way, Pasolini's novels (expecially Ragazzi di vita) are surely close to social realism, but they were all written when Neorealism was already over. We shoud not cosider any realistic Italian film or book as "Neorealistic": it's also a matter of time. Fellini and Pasolini are definitely out of it.

The reason its so hard to take is because Pasolini doesn't sugar-coat anything. A film about fascism (humanity pushed over the edge) must in and of itself be over the edge.

But in these very last scenes, the last 10, 20 minutes (dunno how long it is) the audio-visual presentation changes considerably. There is the stunning music from Carl Orffs Carmina Burana (veris laeta facies) accompany the awful tortures (like snipping an eye out with a knife). So be aware when you watch the movie that the really unsettling moments come at the end.

It was just that mixture I found in de Sade novels - many disgusting content like naked youngsters pushed around and of course a huge mass of real brown excrements which some others shall eat. But all of this in such a boring manner that no-one really could be shocked.

As many of you I once took delighted the chance to watch this movie at our local cinema. I knew it had to do with Marquis de Sade and were curious how a high qualified director would deal with this. Then nearly the whole movie didn't shock me at all.
