  • do adults about 2yrs shed

  • @kittycatgibson they all shed.

  • I'm glad I saw this video, I was worrying about my recently acquired geckos who have been staying on the bottom of their tanks mostly since I got them. I've noticed they've had some bit of grayish-white coloration in the crease of the arms though like you've shown, not so much wrinkling yet. So I guess I'll give it a couple more days before I get really worried about it. Is it common for them not to really eat when they're about to shed as well?

  • @misstwib Yes, mine seem to not eat the days before shedding, generally. Keep in mind the "grey" skin under their arms can also just be an area that isn't hit by light, so it doesn't "fire up" - and a lack of movement on newly-acquired animals can mean they're still in the settling-in phase where they are nervous in new environments.

  • Hi I relay need help with my two male geckos one is like 2 years and the other is almost 1 year but they are not growing very much and the baby has not gotten much bigger. What do i do to get them to eat more?

  • @420bigtoakley420 What are ya feeding, and how do you keep them? They're in separate enclosures right?

  • Hey cool video! question my crested gecko when sheads for some reason flips around like crazy! you would think it was dying is this normal? also it trys to bite you if your near her any help will most definatly be appericiated! thank you.

  • @Hadsatriani She only does this when she sheds? Perhaps the skin on her eyes is getting in the way of seeing well and she is frightened by movement? Other than that, I have not witnessed the 'flipping around like crazy' myself :/

  • Jb, I like your website it has alot of info on these adorable reptiles. I luv the way u know Soooo much about them and isn't just some freak who says stupid stuff :)

  • Just got a crestie sunday!! I've seen a lot of vids of your...any other tips?

  • @geckoguy1295 Check out my site, linked in the notes beneath the video. Has all the info you should need.

  • Thanks for the reply jb my mom read your reply and she now knows more about the species and is now more convinced that i can get one thank you sooooo much for the advice and you are the only one that I go to for advice about them. What is the coolest morph in your opinion. Anyway I watched all of your videos and they really helped. Love the videos and do you have any gekos for sale because I really would like to get one from you. Thanks !!!

  • @LazersRcool832 I have the geckos for sale on my website, they're all listed. As for morphs, any adults I own, I like, of course. So! That answers that :) I don't go by morph names.

  • Hey. Apart from size, is there any other way to tell how old your crestie is? I have a rehomed crestie (no tail) that had two previous homes - and has only shed once. That's all I know about him. His features make him look like an adult, but his size is juvie size. Just wondering that because his weight/size might be stunted, any other way I can tell how old he is?

  • @xXcharleXx Size actually isn't really a good way to tell either. They grow at different rates depending on their diets, their temps, their genetics... I really have no way of telling how old anything I have is unless I hatched it out myself. Sorry.

  • when do the grow teeth

  • @kroakey84 They have teeth from hatching.

  • @stolenmilkcrate

how long dose the accula sheeding take??

my gecko has been trying to get her skin off for a few days now

  • @Bloodygeek11 They should get it all done in a couple of hours. If they have leftover shed you may need to do some adjustments in your humidity and/or cage furnishings. I have a video called "Crested Gecko Bath" that can help you remove stuck shed.

  • What age do you think they start shedding?

  • @edjorthebeast They shed for the first time within 24 hours out of the egg.

  • u jst let it bite u i know they have no teeth but still

  • @gatesbillgates They do have teeth.

  • I thought the Gecko was a sculpture and it scared the crap out of me when it started to move xD

  • Can you do a video on juvie/hatchling cresties shedding? I never noticed my crested gecko looking like the one in the video and I've never seen him shed before. His colors are always pretty bright. Is it possible I just missed it?

  • @itsmimitime I won't have time to do new vids for a while, but if you've had your gecko for a month+ it has probably shed at some time. They do it very quickly often while you're sleeping.

  • Sorry this doesnt have much to do with shedding :( But my 4 out of 6 babies are not eating much pin heads, as we think they are not eating any crestie food :| we kno for sure that 2 out of the 4 are not eating bugs :( what should we do?

  • @kshaw98 Don't worry about the bugs, stick with the Crested Gecko Diet because it's more important they get that. Keep in mind they only take tiny licks of food some nights and if you are finding poop, they're eating something.

  • Thanks, also do you know why he will go under his water bowl and dig? when I pull him out, he appears to actually be eating the dirt.

  • @TheConverseQueen26 They dig for a few reasons - they don't feel safe anywhere else in the tank (make sure you have some ground-level hides, like a half a coconut shell or something), they don't feel moist enough, they feel too warm, or they just feel safer. They use their heads kind of like shovels to move dirt around so yeah sometimes they will get some of it in their mouths.

  • Hey, my gecko Romeo has been like a rocket whenever I turn off the light in his cage. I think he likes it and is very stress free. However when I turn the light on he is sloth like, and I see him dig under his food bowl. When I pull him out it looks like he's been eating dirt. My question is what should I do, leave the light off (this makes me feel he will exhaust himself) or should I leave it on (this makes me feel he will be stressed out) please advise thanks for all the help

  • @TheConverseQueen26 I really don't know exactly what you're asking - they do need a day and night cycle, so as long as your light isn't overheating him, he should be okay. Check your temps if he always hides when you put the light on.

  • um do you no what it means (this is embaressing) when your gecko poops on you? like is it like horses, when theyre nervous they shosw you by pooping? or is it just cuz they have ta go? thanks a ton!, oh and is there a way to get them to stop? lol i havnt tried anything, i thought id ask u first cuz u oviously know waht your doingXD

  • @lizardgirlkelsey Not sure what it could mean, could be nervousness, or your hand could be just warm enough that it's relaxing to the bowels :P Try um.. handling after he poops? Haha.

  • umm what kind of crested gecko is that one cuz some crested geckos are smaller then others and that one is bigger ??

  • @sweetemokidz Ummm... it's an adult? Some are smaller because they're younger.

  • ok =]

thanks how long dose it take to it to gain weight ?

cause its gonna be 2 weeks tommorow =]

  • @sexiilicous1 You've only had it 2 weeks, you won't see a drastic size increase for a while. They don't grow super fast.

  • @stolenmilkcrate lol.. yeah it's not that long uhg ?

i just don remeber my leo taking this long ha

tho it's a year next month!

so how high is ur humidity ?

  • @sexiilicous1 I have my humidity info and all other care info on my site

  • @stolenmilkcrate ok this site u go on dose it cost to go on i mean sign up for ?

  • @sexiilicous1 just click the link in my info, i wouldnt be sending people to a pay site for gecko info -___-

  • ok im try my comment again =[

    it's not posting

my crested gecko its eating drinking not dyhdrated nothing like that its not in shed that i know of its pooping it's just not climbing i mist 2 day and humidity is bout 30% how to bust the humidity ? i use hot water not hot hot.

i just can't keep it humid for some reason =[

  • i spray my geckos cage like 2 times a day it stays bout 69 to 70 in my room

humidity is like 30 how do i incress it ? i have worm water idk why my gecko is no longer climbing it's not wrinkled like deyhdrated or nothing not in shed that i can tell its hyper if i touch it sits at bottom of cage it's eating and pooping ??

im not sure if its just that geckos prefrance or not. sorry if im a bother.

  • @sexiilicous1 Your comment posts first time, I have my comments set to view via approval only because I get people giving bad info in comments here. You should not use warm or hot water - use room temp water. Hot water can scald these animals, they have thin skin. It may just be getting ready to shed soon. You can cover part of the lid of the cage if it's only screen on top, to keep humidity in.

  • @stolenmilkcrate oh im sorry!

and ok i have it in a tiny keeper it's 7 inches tall with lid on

and bout 4 -5 inches wide. its only 5 -6 grams

is this space to small ? if so i have a ten gallon ?

and okk i have alot of room temp water -[=

  • @sexiilicous1 At 5 grams that's OK for a little while longer. You can upgrade to the 10-gallon when it hits 8 grams or so, whenever he's looking cramped.

  • do they get aggresive during shedding

  • @infectious35 Not as far as I've seen.

PLEASE only hit "post" ONCE. You just flooded my inbox with a ton of the same message. I'll unblock you when you've had a chance to read this :(

  • @TheConverseQueen26 Sometimes it takes them a few days to settle in, don't mess with him and just provide food (I hope you are offering food other than crickets). My site has all the other info.

  • My gecko isn't eating anything... I got him 3 days ago..... I dusted some crickets and put them in his cage, in case he was shy.... I want him to have some sort of calcium intake. He won't even drink water. I'm afraid he will starve or dehydrate... Tips? And alps what humidity (I have a hygrometer) should he be at?

  • Do they shed their "eye scales" like snakes do..? I havent had mine long enough to see them shed & would like to know if they do so I know if their bumping into stuff its "normal"..lol

    Peace =)

  • @cidiousmaximus Yeah, the eye has a very VERY thin layer that sheds - it almost looks like a bubble, it's so thin.

  • I am getting a crested gecko, and I am usually a cat person..... So this is my first Gecko.. Tips?

  • Hey JB, what happens if my crestie doesn't get her own shed off? She's obviously in shed, I can see pieces of it sticking up, but she's not doing anything to remove it. This is weird, right?

  • Ideally they should be getting their own skin off. Make sure your humidity is at a proper level, and check out my video about the crested gecko "bath" method. It can be used to help a gecko shed.

  • hi jb just woundering, how many days can a crestie go with out food? as next year i plan to go away for a week, i guess i should have some one to spray the enclosure and swaping changing the cdg. although i find i dont need to spray much as its allways humid here and useing eco earth helps maintain moisture . my gecko is doing well looking good.,and i dont want to change that.

  • They really need to be misted daily as that's their main source of drinking water. I change food out every other day.

  • i help my gecko when it's shedding but i tke the skin of the head so it's easier for my gecko to shedd. but you have to becareful when you do that cuz as you said you can injunre the leapardgecko . Boggedbox

  • You should not have to help them shed at all - if you find you are continually having to, you need to fix your humidity.

  • is itok to help them shed

  • You shouldn't have to if your temps/humidity are OK, and pulling too much could possibly injure them. If your gecko has stuck shed you can give it a "bath" - please look up my video on how to do that safely.

  • how old do the cretsed gecko's have to be to tell if the gecko is a boy or a girl?

  • It really really depends. On some I can see pores when they're only about 4 grams, but others, it's harder to see pores until they're larger.

  • heyy : ) , i have a question.. about how old do cresties usually start shedding ?

  • They have their first shed within the first 24 hours of hatching, generally.

  • okay , because i recently got a baby gecko , i believe he/she is a few months, so im just waiting for it to shed .

  • Chances are, it's shed a few times already and you have missed it. Cresties shed very quickly, will tear all of the skin off, and eat it, so unless you see its skin milky-white and "dry" just before a shed, there's no sign.

  • mine wont eat fruit. i have tried different baby foods and mashed fruits with and without the calcium but the little guy is just a carnivor. are there any problems i should be looking for with him just eating crickets?

  • Yes, MBD and other bone/body deficiencies.

How often are you feeding live food?

  • 3 every other day. i gut load them so he is getting the calcium at least

  • I have a question if you dont mind. I work in a petshop and i just bougth every thing for my gecko and bought the cresty but its not yet ready to come home. Anyways i was told that all the cresty need was the Exo Terra sun Glow spot (50w because its a small terrarium) I also go a Zoomed heating pad. I was told that it was all i needed when talking heat, and lighting im just aiming for a second opinion thanks! :)

  • my boy stayed up in the leaves to shed, instead of going down on the ground...the whole process was pretty quick, maybe 7-8 minutes start to finish. It surprised me, because I hadn't taken him out that day, so I didn't get to see the skin look all loose and clear. Oh, and he hates crickets. wont eat em at all. can you msg me some suggestions? I would like him to eat some dusted bugs so that he gains alittle weight. thanks!

  • i didn't know that they stayed on the bottom of the cage when going in to shed because i got him a few days ago and now i know thank you.

  • What are the limits to helping the gecko shed, like if you can peel the skin off, if so how much?

  • It is much preferable to allow the gecko to shed on its own. Crested geckos shed an outside layer on their eye with each shed, and messing about with that especially could be dangerous. Only assist if shed is not coming off within days of it starting.

  • Okay, so if that happens what procedures should I use to help along with shedding?

  • I replied yesterday with the answer to Ch0nch's comment

  • Oh, sorry. Guess I should have read the comments. Thanks though.

  • hello, my crested gecko has loose skin on top of his head, what do i do? and its been there for a whole week!

  • If you are 100% sure it's loose skin and not some other ailment, you can put the gecko in a small tupperware container, with a moist paper towel on the bottom, and mist in there well and close the lid for 15-20 minutes (keep an eye on the gecko). You can use a Q-Tip to help remove the stuck shed. Make sure your humidity in your enclosure is good.

  • hi whats your fav. morph

  • I like light creams on dark bodies :)

  • can a crestie take more than one night to finish its shed?

  • It might, but it's pretty rare - usually I'll notice a gecko getting that milky-looking color, and shed, and eat the shed all in one night. Make sure your humidity's doing all right.

  • thank you =] ..

  • np, have a good one!

  • Ok thanks

  • mine has not shed ever is that natural

  • No, it's not natural, but it might be happening at night when you're not looking. They shed pretty quickly and eat all of their shed skin.

  • Ok thanks that is probibly what has been going on since ive had mine for about 9 months and havent seen it shed but it has had to since it has grown so much

  • Awwe

  • lol my baby shed like at the end of last month it was pretty cool to see him pull it off :)

  • how often is an adult supposed to shed? mine sheds pretty often... and aren't they supposed to eat very little while shedding?

  • See answer to previous comment - nobody really knows since it happens so fast.

They might stop eating for a day or two after shed because they've got a gut full of skin, but that's not abnormal or anything.

  • alright, thank you ^_^

  • how often should a baby shed?

  • It's honestly hard to tell, because they do it so quickly. A couple times a month? More? Depending on how fast they're growing.

  • mine was shedding about 3 days ago
