I had a player jump over another and land on my stick and because my thumb was between the stick and the ice it accidentally crushed my thumb...It was swollen twice its normal size.

Not to come down on the kid, but I think he should tighten his strap on his trapper. I've NEVER had my glove come off like that. Blocker, sure maybe, but your glove should be snug on your wrist. Believe me, in a few years when he's playing against bigger kids with harder shots, it'll be important, not just for injury prevention, but to make sure your glove doesn't twist back under the weight of a hard shot. Nothing sucks more than letting in a puck that hit your glove on the way in.
