I love the 40s style. i just turned 20, and if i wear my hair like this or makeup like this, my mother gets angry at me because it makes me look so old. very classic, ive been told i have a very classic beauty face so it does suit me but makes me look older than 20. any suggestions as to how not to look so "old" as my mum says i look?
@MarschesaDash It's called 'classic' for a reason darlin'. I'm sure you look beautiful, don't worry so much about what your mum thinks is fashionable. ;)
@Kueronez why thank you! you are right. my mother always tell me that i would be beautiful if i were a size 0, with bleach blonde hair. I am a brunette and i am a size 8! she thinks im ugly...
@MarschesaDash Well, I don't want to judge your mother, but as a size 6 brunette myself, I feel like we can look pretty spectacular! And if you're dressing/makeup in a beautiful classic way - I'm sure you look much better than if you were bottle blonde! ;)
@MarschesaDash I wonder if she means old as in too mature, or too old fashioned? The problem is that now most girls your age aren't taught how to dress like young ladies, and our eyes just aren't used to seeing classic styles on those younger (or most people for that matter). Google up some images of a young Elizabeth Taylor or Sophia Loren. Both STUNNING, and of course dressed in a more 'old fashioned' way. No one can argue with how amazing they look. That's why these women have become icons!
@superkawaiimama why hello! She definitely means as in too mature and too old fashioned. She wishes Id go out to parties and get drunk. honestly, doing that seems quite revolting to me. Why would I want to look like that?! I think she is scared I will attract a much older man that will "try to take advantage" of me....
@rapturessilliestgirl The snoods I buy on eBay or Etsy. As for the fringe, I'd suggest setting it with a hot roller so you get that nice 'swish' effect at the front instead.
This was GREAT! Nice to see an Aussie girl doing one of these tutorials. Just curious, do you whiten your teeth? I'd love to try red lipstick but am afraid my teeth would look to yellow, or that red just won't suit my skin tone.
@TeamKilday Hey, just scrolled down and read your comment so I thought I would reply. I think anyone can pull off red lipstick it just depends on what shade you wear and what other makeup. Deeper shades make your teeth look whiter whilst brighter ones can sometimes make them seem a little stained. Both can look great. I have pale skin and red hair and usually go for a slightly deeper colour and stay away from oranges...
@TeamKilday Thanks. No,I don't whiten my teeth, just brush them with a whitening toothpaste. You can find a great post on how to choose and wear red lipstick on my blog listed in the about section.
This is an excellent video, thanks for taking the time to share. If I could ask you to do one thing differently it'd be to do your style in front of a light background, purely because your dark hair is lost in the background at time. But over all, top class demo. Thank you :-)
It's a lovely tutorial, but you might want to consider doing the next in front of a light background, since your hair is dark and in this often blended in with the dark blue background, making it difficult to see what you were doing. Thanks for teaching me how to use a snood!
@RuthSherwood Thx! Once I read your comment I was instantly able to visualize how much improved this tutorial would be with, as you said, a light coloured background (Lol....However, 'Radio days' imagination required 'to see' a vintage 1940's hairstyle lesson seems a wee bit like poetic justice, wouldn't you agree m' dear?)
@withit062714 *lol* You have a point there, even though you used the terms 'like this' and 'you see', so I could hold that against you ;op. Oh well, I shall follow your channel now, hoping to learn a lot more ^_^.
i love this style and have tried to do it myself but havent had much success with my thin hair but i'm going to keep trying until i get it to work for me
@lilmissglamourpuss True, but it is a very difficult thing to do one handed whilst filming yourself and not knocking everything over. I'll have to come up with a better system for when doing the videos, because opening them on the antique dresser edge scares me!
@lilmissglamourpuss really? gonna criticize over that? sorry but just about every girl does it, i dont but you dont see me judging other girls for using their teeth to open up a bobby pin now do you?
@Hellomiso I generally use OPI polish for my reds as I like their intensity and long wear. But I'll confess to having about 50 different polishes of all sorts! :)
Omg! You remind me of Trudy from Mad Men!

This is brilliant! I can't wait to try it. Questions, though...
Where abouts in Australia do you live? Creepy question, I know, but I'm curious as to where you bought the snood...
Also, I have a full fringe that goes to about my eyes, is there any way I could work around that?

Love your style & the video - but I have to say: a classy gal never, EVER opens a hair grip using her teeth!
Get creative and poke it to any available table edge to get it open, but never stick it in your mouth!
