  • I'm an 18 year old, girl, who REALLY wants to go into the Coast Guard as a rescue swimmer. My eyes get REALLY irritated when stuff gets in them and the only thing holding me back from calling a recruiter is the pepper spraying. My dad was in the Coast Guard (rescue swimmer) and he encourages me to join but he, fortunately, did not have to get pepper sprayed back then. Can someone just tell me it's worth it? I guess I just need to hear it is worth it from someone with OC experience.

  • @JmacFan4ever0709 OC Pepper Spray exposure is not a requirement to join the Coast Guard or become an AST (Rescue Swimmer). However, after boot camp you will be assigned to a unit while you wait a significant amount of time to go to "A" school. At that unit you may be required to complete Law Enforcement training which involves OC exposure. It is an unpleasant experience but that is just one day out of your career. Feel free to message me if you have any more questions.

  • @JmacFan4ever0709 Often times, our imagining of how bad something is going to be is worse than the actual thing we fear. It's just in your mind. Go for it!

  • My dad was on that boat when that happen.

  • @EvilMegaDeath

    No he was not.

  • @IPyrgus Alright man you would know... my dad was trying to teach some retared that wouldnt listen to him and he ended up in a bad position.

  • a 3 hr tour, a 3 hr tour

  • "short video".......

  • Why the fuck!!!!!! is this a slideshow!!!!

  • These were photos submitted by a viewer of the Coast Guard Channel and we used them to create a special video for him to show off the hard work of this crew. It may not be video but it captures the brutality of the job and the perseverance of the boat and crew. We do have other videos of motor lifeboats to check out.

  • @thecoastguardchannel maybe they were having fun on their lunch break?

  • Youtube is for anything you want. You can make videos and pictures with music into PowerPoint presentations and post them if you like. This is a free country and the internet places no restrictions on its content. We need to think outside the box if we are going to survive as a people. Please don't criticize someone for posting something that is not offensive and still meets the criteria for Youtube.

  • beast

  • what happened to the people on the flybridge, good grip??????????

  • @eventidewy198 velco soles

  • @eventidewy198 Those are dummies. Anybody with any brains is below decks.

  • @clarkewi

not true. the 01 deck provides a much better view for the Coxswain to drive.

  • I was wondering if there was a boat in there...

  • thanks the first wave made me poop

  • Pictures are of excellent quality, I beleive but is there a video?

  • that's it !?!?!

  • I was in Morro bay a few weeks ago. The waves there can get crazy. Those rocks you see around 0:25, I was climbing up those when I heard this huge booming noise. I get to the top and i get hit everywhere by water. I was lucky I grabbed onto something because I woulda been killed falling.

  • agreed. youtube is for videos

  • This boat is self righting...so when it capsizes, it automatically flips. Designed that way...very cool.

  • yep, all the air is at the top and the engines are right on the floor.

  • @laur3389 ....presuming that it still has a captain on board.........thats fantastic

  • youtube is for video, not pictures !

  • holy shit.

  • I'm so cool. I've surfed there while the coast guard did their thing. Caught my biggest wave ever off the buoy into the harbor entrance. Sometimes there is a clean 20' left break on the north side of the jetty that holds up long. It's only that good a couple times a year. Spectacular good times!

  • my jaw dropped when I saw it come out the other side.....

  • only with rubrails

  • theres a coast guard channel?

  • Dah, whatever. I was close enough.

  • im heading off to bootcamp in febuary, hoping to get to a motor lifeboat station

  • do u live in morro bay

  • looks like good potential for a big wave spot

  • not really. Although morro bay is the better surfing in the area, stick to Santa Cruz or Santa Barbara.. it is just better there.

  • thats the harbor entrance its usually flat calm. days like that only happen about about 1-2 days out of the year. not worth it, the jedis are too sketchy.

  • it's actually quite shitty for big waves and mostly unrideable past 10'. never clean enough, to many rips, etc. Much better waves to be had than MB when it's big.

  • I've seen bigger waves in the bathtub

  • Keep in mind that the boat is 47 feet long. Then judge the height of the wave, using that information.

  • I was attempting to be sarcastic. those guys are nuts! MY HAT IS OFF TO THEM!

  • Ah. Sarcasm is so difficult in text ;)

  • lmao, when i was a kid, i used to be afraid of hurricanes in the bathtub. im serious! no lie!

  • It remends me of that song "I get knocked down" Its sure as hell that thing gets up again!

  • Gotta love those MLB's!!!!!

  • I've seen that in Motor Boats Monthly and Motor Boats and Yaghting!

    As you could say:

"Been there, Done that, Got the T-shirt"

Or in my cast got the magazine!

  • never seen surf like that at morro bay, everytime ive been its been calm.

  • Verrry cool, but an actual video would be better. Got one?

  • i woudl love to do that

  • My grandfather used to do this. Only, in the 1920's they used open boats that were only sort of self-righting...
