  • I've gotta get this tele!

does anbody know what model this is?

  • J is the man - of all the musicians and bands from late 80's early 90's underground rock scene, he was the most Naturally talented - You know your the shit when you've got the members from sonic youth, minutemen and Nirvana name checking you.

  • He's hell miderable and fat and grey hair and glasses now...

  • You're not gonna get me through this, are you?

  • need that hat.

  • i spend alot of my life hating on people for no reason and disliking people for being different...

shit happens in your life and you never notice how much cnage can happen to one person when something small happens in their life

all i really know is that whenever i listen to dinosaur jr i close my eyes and im in a place where my life is perfect..things now are shit for me...lost my job, girlfriend, my pet cat and i got caught smoking weed...fuck it...

    we are who we are

  • worthy!

  • cool bass line !

  • WHAT SONG IS IT.

  • "Every dream gets shot by daylight..."

  • where's nirvana? is that them there?? blerk?????

  • Lead bass...that's what I'm fucking talking about!

  • why the hell would they name it no nirvana

  • @44eelz it was meant to expose other "alternative" bands that obviously were not Nirvana. A very good thing of the BBC to do if you ask me.

  • @PieceofMindmusic sure, but thats still a stupid name

  • got me trough alot

  • best guitar solo ever

  • this band is cool

  • holy shit a tele, i hate that guitar but holy fuck he isnt playin a jazz

  • And to show just exactly how little Rolling Stone magazine actually knows about music, J Mascis here was NOT voted as one of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time on their half assed list. What fucking cocksuckers but I do forgive them.

  • yer not gonna get me thru this aare yoooooooooooOOOOoooouu?.....

  • J has just proven you CAN solo on a Telecaster, and make it sound jaw dropply amazing. Unlike what some idiots say.

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies Mike Johnson just proved you can do a melodic guitar solo on a bass haha

  • That was absolutely fucking fantastic!

  • that was a great show, smashing pumpkins were on it too and a good few others. can you remeber them all?

  • You can tell he was really into Neil Young at this time.....

  • the occasional telecaster eh J?

  • @Sleepinglikesheep

ive also seen him use a *GASP* Les Paul at times

  • @hugmeshootme

Haha righteous. I live in Ottawa, in Canada, and saw them like 3 weeks ago and they were perfect. The ringing in my ears hasn't gone away yet lmao

  • Telecasters never get old =)

  • @PublicJoe88

Telecasters are awesome and this song is classic

  • What is "no nirvana"

  • It was the name of a "Late Show" music special broadcast on the BBC in the UK in 1993, had performances on by Dinosaur Jr/Screaming Trees/Pearl Jam/RATM and loads more that i ahve forgot.

Hope this helps, most of it is up here on youtube i think.

  • they played this last night in philly! i was shocked.

  • I know, I was expecting them to play the stuff from farm and maybe freak scene but they played a lot of the older stuff too. That was a great show.

  • Awsummm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fell in love with this song after seeing this on "no nirvana" it had some wicked stuff on it e.g. sonic youth/rem etc.

And these dudes are great live, had the pleasure of thier gig in brighton last month, shame cuz they did,nt play this song, they played "the wagon" so i was still chuffed

  • I listen to various genres of music. no one should ever say what is better than what. If you love this appreciated it. there is a lot of music you will never discover as i have and yet i dont think my music acumen is better than yours. its whatever touches you. This will be the Last song on my movie i will make

  • Amazing song...That's what I call Real Rock.

    Grunge and not.....but how....?

Sounds good, good music, this is what we need now as ever.

Lady Gaga, Pitbull, Electroshitpopsongs sucks. Just sucks

  • I really do await the day when good music like this is allowed to return. But for now, artistic expression is forced out the way, for the sake of profit. It's gonna a lot to break that mould.

J Mascis is a guitar beast!

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies If you want some good grunge music with expression check out my friends band InterCoarse. The band name is InterCoarse because they go in and out of heavy haha.

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies

You're just not looking in the right places because there is plenty of wonderful art music. Dr. Dog, Elliott Smith, Woods, No Age, Ganglians, Afternoon brother, animal collective, deerhoof, deerhunter, kirkwood dellinger, black keys, awesome color, decemberists, red hot chili peppers, meat puppets, pregnant, black dice, wavves (maybe not so much wavves - it's acquired), caribou, atlas sound, mew... whatever - probably wont like all these anyway. Just ideas

  • @PaulKneller Radiohead....Interpol, The XX, The Silversun Pickups. Just some more ideas.

  • @halifuckinfan

yeah, radiohead is one of the bests - XX is great if you are open to different music however I'm not into silversun pickups like my brother is. Vampire weekend, sonic youth, sebadoh, fruit bats, and definatly mew if you like dinosaur jr because J-mascis did a song with Mew- "why are you looking grave" and it was beautiful. :)

  • @PaulKneller Vampire Weekend? They might be the worst band out today.

  • @MrHello435222

Yes, I understand your input is superior to all. They lack talent, indeed. I can respect your opinion but maybe you shouldn't speak as if you own all truth. Bands all appeal to different audiences. If you do not belong in the audience, cool. I only made a suggestion.Criticism is found against every band including dinosaur jr but we all love the one comment to throw in the negative feedback. Thank you for your wonderful criticism. Whatever you say.

  • @PaulKneller No but seriously they are TERRIBLE. Dinosaur jr are one of my favourite all time bands but I'm just telling you that vampire weekend are the worst. You listed sonic youth (great band) but then vampire weekend thats like comparing led zepplin to jonas brothers but whatever listen to what you want.

  • @MrHello435222

I wasn't doing comparisons, it was suggestions. Whatever's cool with you. :)

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies I would like to make a recommendation to you. Please listen to the Screaming Females. They have toured with Dinosaur Jr. over the past few years and J Mascis has mentioned that they are one of his favorite bands. Let me tell you also that the lead singer and guitarist Marissa Paternoster is the best guitar player in rock right now and is just as good as J Mascis. They're current 2010 album Castle Talk is the best place to start. You can thank the band when you see them.

  • @217potato

Lol, for a moment I read that as "Screaming Trees" who are another great band XD yeah, I'll make a note of it and go listen to them.

  • @217potato tanx for the recommendation .. no joke

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies Believe me. You will be wanting to see them live and buy all of their albums after listening to Castle Talk.

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies One last thing. I know you are getting sick of me so I will be quick. You can either type in Screaming Females " I Don't Mind It " here on Youtube or you can look in my favorites and it will be the first vid you see. You will not regret it.

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies

Actuallly, I kinda disagree with my own statement now. Seems I posted this without really thinking. I actually find that there is good music right now. You just need to stop complaining that "All the best stuff has already been done" and go look for it. Besides, it's not like genius only gets one chance and that's it. In fact there has never been a better time than now, when you can do whatever you want and there's at least some people who will love you for it.

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies I agree. To limit yourself to one era of music is such a travesty. There is so much music being created by people every single day. You're bound to like at least a couple, as long as you're willing to listen. I'm all for the great music of yesteryear, but music evolves, just like everything else. It's up to us to adapt and grow with it.

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies Yeah, no one ever made a profit back then did they? Music was just pure? There is plenty good music around now man. But dinosaur Jr were dinosaur Jr. You think music didnt suck back then too?

  • is that bertz on drums?

  • Nope, Murph

  • thumbs up wonderful song !

  • WOUW, J performs an amazing solo!

  • グレートですね

  • i agree

  • 53 maybe? wtf ?

  • love how jay forgets the lyrics and makes new ones up

  • ITS J

  • True, Joseph not Jay.

  • j looks so amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Blue sparkle tele, mmmmmmmmm.........that's nice.

  • great song

  • he is my kind of guy

    huhuhu........

  • I think the most remarkable thing is they always sound near perfect to their albums live regardless of where they are.

  • it seems that when i play a guitar solo i just cannot help ripping of j! oh well could be worse i suppose!

  • Just an amazing band. Amazing musicians. Would love to see them come back to the uk to perform.

  • they'll probably play the UK soon with the new album coming out next month

  • forum, june 9th

  • This is the first time I've ever seen J play a tele, he plays a strat in the 'take a run at the sun' video, but other than that I've only seen him with jazzmasters.

  • he plays a hollowbody in the actual Get ME music video and a gibson les paul in the Start Chop\p\in' video.

  • great performance, Mike's bass work is phenomenal.

  • I've still got this on VHS. Wasn't the show called "No Nirvana, nevermind"?

  • I remember when release dates for new Dinosaur Jr albums felt like a holiday! Great performance.

  • he's wearing a similar (same?) outfit that he did in the video for this song.

  • j and sinent bob too

  • Nah, he's waaaay better than that dude..

  • Tasty stuff. Love the guitar work. Always been a fave of mine.

  • Great to see this again. I too had this on tape for many years - it was the first I'd heard Dinosaur Jr and been hooked since. Pearl Jam and Sonic Youth were on the show as well, weren't they?

  • Mike Johnson bass solo - excellent.

  • Loved this programme - had on tape for 10 years but lost it - so thank you.

  • wow... nice one :]

  • love the hat, j.

  • ahahah...me too!

    great mascis!!!

  • wow that intro was slighty more subtle. Love it. The last 2 chord of the intro bit were minors or something. sounds sweet.

    Dino-life.

  • Awesome, thanks!

  • J Mascis.. a great influence in my life and music.. =)

  • @Melvins82 same here man

  • Damn his voice is awesome

  • good

  • he's too good.

  • That rocks!
