@TheTspirit22 My thing with that number started when I was like 14 and I kept waking up in the night at 2:22. I thought it was a ghost waking me up. Do you play guitar? They has a brand name at Target that was 222 that was guitar strings and a guitar. Thats probably what the pick you found refers to. they don't have that brand at Target anmore. Don't take this as absolute fact but I thought I read once that the number 222 is mentioned in the Torah as having unique properties.

@maroogoo Yes! This is why I think James Mercer is the Poet Laureate of indie pop.

"As sure as you have eyes, they've got no right". He's basically saying "By virtue of the fact that you can discern truth for yourself they have no right to tell you what it is."

...I'm not sure I even explained that correctly.

@baillou2 hmm thats an interesting interpretation. i took that line as a defiant stance against the people that want control over this person (who im assuming is a girl). The line "See, those unrepenting buzzards want your life, And they got no right," tells me that she is control of her life no matter how they try to manipulate her. The "eyes" line reminds us that she still has her humanity and a soul despite how they attempt to destroy her :)

@maroogoo That's basically what I was trying to say. I was just trying to point out how "eyes" is the perfect word because it points to the tautological fact that she sees for herself and thus can't be manipulated.

It's almost like telling a fish "As sure as you have fins they've got no right (to tell you to walk)."

It's a VERY humanist lyric.
