I played this song at my Dad's funeral..He loved music..he loved country music to the very end...We all remembered the days that Dad was so playful, charming, and full of life. And when he died, we all raised a glass to his life, his passions and his memories. I cannot hear this song without a lot of tears running down my face..
"...."The words that you said they still ring in my head" in particular would appear to be directed at their low-class, inbred detractors who wave our flag and yet despise those who practice one of its most cherished rights, that of free speech...."
Does anybody know whom the Dixie Chicks are addressing in this beautiful song? My first guess would be their "fair-weather" fans who unceremoniously dumped them for Natalie's opposition to the war in Iraq. The lyric, "The words that you said they still ring in my head" in particular would appear to be directed at their low-class, inbred detractors who wave our flag and yet despise those who practice one of its most cherished rights, that of free speech.
My dad was 69 yrs old..He was far too young for the bitter end that he met. I love you Dad..always..
