  • Nickie Neal (Drums) and Larry Johnson (Bass) are Betty's first cousins. The band Nickie and Larry played in was named FUNKHOUSE,out of Reidsville, N.C. Betty's (Keyboardist) Fred Mills and (Guitarist) Carlos Morales were also members of FUNKHOUSE....Few people understood Betty's Music (That includes the record industry, and other musicians)....Nickie, Larry, Fred, and Carlos understood....It was just the BLUES and these boys from North Carolina played it too perfection!

  • Was igginging Betty way back in the 70s. I was born in the same town as the drummer who was in a home town group just as funky as Betty Davis. But yeh! Betty is HOTT!! And Nikki is one hell of a drummer!!!

  • F.U.C.K. yeah!

  • Back in the mid 70's Betty was on the bill with Graham Central Station in Washington, D.C. at the Carterboran(Outdoor ampitheater) for six nights. On the last night that we were to perform, Larry's people cut our sound and lights out. We absolutely blow them away for six straight night. About two weeks later I went to see Graham Central perform in New York, at Lincoln Center. Guess what song Larry opened with, your listening to it "FUNK". A total instrumental version of it. A total ripoff.

  • she still living..but so much dont know about her..love her!

  • @101Capricorn Betty moved back to Pittsburgh, She stays out of the spotlight and if you didn't know her you'd never know

  • @exnewsanchor Yeah i know but i mean so much...like people dont know her..like music wise wich suckz....

  • I will always carry this woman's spirit with me............she's my soul mate and spiritual healer...no one can touch her!!! X

  • Betty has been my favorite since college (circa 1972-76) I had all her stuff on wax. At one time she had Buddy Miles, Neal Schon, Coke Escovedo and others of Santana 3 Band on her albums. She should've hooked up with George Clinton to put her fantastic FUNK on the map

  • I have a great respect and admiration of Betty Davis.

Against many odds she thrived & made some of the funkiest music of her time.

With her unique mix of message with music, her creations are true gems.

No doubt, a woman ahead of her time.

  • 3:41-3:45 She goes from a very deep voice to a very light feminine voice. I was amazed =)

  • Best Funk Ever (BFE)

  • man, this pre-dates the groove of Chaka K & Rufus. Pure Raw sexxxuality. Tough fookin' groove. she's the female counterpart sexuality that Black Moses gave us the Hot Buttered Soul! pure drippin' sex, baby! Tough!

  • she was way ahead of her time. head rockn music not for dancing. saw her live, she was funkn! audience wasn't ready. they were waiting on kool& the gang.

  • This is the true funknroll!!! Thx man!

  • Great stuff, thanks for sharing...

  • there is some tina turner in there though

  • sound more like alice cooper great girl

  • Alice Cooper? Imho she sounds far from Cooper... she was rather influenced by Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone.

By the Way: She is just three years younger than Cooper...

So it's "highly unlikely" as well, that Cooper is her biological father.

    ;-)

  • actually, she was a big influence on jimi and sly.... let alone miles.

peaches takes a lot from her show....

san fran 70's raiders, athletics, giants and betty davis

  • Funky Momma

  • kick ass song

  • I loooooove her gravely voice and her afro is fierce!!! lol

  • This song is FUNKIN' AWESOME!!! Funk is da best!!! Hey there's a great song of hers you should also make a music vid for and that is "This Is It", that's a real classic piece of hard funk like this song!!!

  • You're right! She's got so many good ones it's hard for me to choose, but 'This Is It' is one of my top choices for next time. Thanks!

  • Now that is what I call Funk. Could'nt get any better..

  • Her voice reminds me a little of Tina Turner's

  • Yeah... thas real hot... thank you really... good funk... yeah

  • Happy Birthday Betty!

  • Foxy Lady......mmm

  • Be sure to check out the NEW video, "HE WAS A BIG FREAK", too! It seems to be escaping YouTube's radar and isn't appearing with the other Betty videos. Hit "More from this user" to your right and scroll down...

  • Hi, funroll, I just wanted to say I am surprised that vid has escaped the youtube radar too lol but I am glad it has cause she is wonderful. thanks for introducing me to her. the Barbie doll with the strap-on dildo made me laugh. lool

  • Is she still around?

  • Betty is alive, but she's kept a low profile after leaving the music business in the late 1970's. Her first two CDs are coming back out on May 15; the new interviews inside, plus a cover story on the magazine WAX POETICS (Rap, Funk), are helping to put her back into the spotlight. Hopefully this is a new beginning for her!

  • Saw Betty perform here in Philly back in 1976 (still can't get the image out of my head. She was hottttt.

  • very nicely done....it is great to see and hear her. thank you for putting this out here for us.

  • There were real funky sisters, like Parlet, Brides of Funkenstien, Vicki Anderson, Lyn Collins, Marva Whitney, Betty Harris, Lynn Varnado, Spanky Wilson, and Millie Jackson to name a few. Betty Davis was not just a female funk singer. Betty was the prototype of pure F.U.N.K.,that rivals any man or woman in the history of funk. Betty was controversial, she had charisma, attitude, hard vocals, sexy costumes, and funky music. Betty has had a cult following. Betty is one funky soul sister.

  • mmmmm more nasty funk please ...

  • O my...please excuse me while I towel down.
