What program you use doesn't matter AT ALL.. I'd rather be good with FL or garageband than be crappy on protools. Plus if you track out all the sounds you can edit them in other programs if you'd like. I only recommend getting other software if you wanna record vocals.. Protools or logic are definitely necessary for that.

Roland sounds are top notch when you use them right. I won't argue the hardware vs. software topic here, but to me, a healthy blend of each is the best choice. Customize your gear to your liking...other than that, just make good music the best way you know how.

Dude, I've used Fruity Loops. The sounds are just okay. Reason, with a bunch of different refills of course, is way better. It's way more sophisticated. I think it's just too intimidating to a lot of people.
