  • Man, and I thought I was the last one on the planet carving wood by hand (doing pistol grips). You got me whooped bro! Check out my vid if you get a chance anyway... Your work is breathtaking! I used to work on high end exotic cars (collision work). My old boss would flip seeing this. Thanks for the videos! P.S. I'd joke and tell them the chisel aint sharp, the wood is soft! A diamond bit on a dremel works well to sharpen the buggered up ones!

  • @kenmorto Lol, yeah it does look kinda crazy. But it's fun

doing stuff like that. Good thing I took the vid though, noone would

believe it otherwise. Thanks for watching.

  • Man you make that look easy. And its not. The dying art of old world craftmanship.Your good.

  • @tterb4 I'm old, but not dying just yet. lol. Thanks, and thanks for watching.

  • Man you are awesome...thanks for sharing your old school skills...

  • @keithalan10 Hey, my pleasure. Thanks for watching.

  • Binding by hand! Your are the man, With that I can consider how to truly keep the guitar "Unplugged". Thanks for posting!

  • @joavth Right on! Thanks for watching.

  • so can this technique be used for acoustics aswell or should I stick to a router since the material is very thin, its my first guitar build :D

  • @Altwolf123 I'm sure it would be fine. That purfling cutter is designed for acoustics.

  • Phew, wow, that was just incredible! I was waiting for a router to appear and then... you pull out a chisel?!?!? "Are you nuts?" I've been looking for a way to do this on my guitars, so I may just try a chisel. I must be nuts too!

  • @noi5emaker It's not hard, just need to be patient, and yeah, a little nuts. lol. Thanks for watching.

  • Dammit that comment was too long and got trimmed. Anyway, thanks a lot for the good karma! any chances for new videos on that matter? :) cheers!

  • Hi Isaac, it's been more than a year since I found your videos here and you've become my main reference for guitar building, always hoping for a new video from you...

BTW I enjoyed your "guitar building" series so much (technical quality is not a big deal when facing true talent and a good karma) that I even downloaded them to my iphone and frequently find myself watching them again when going to sleep, first time I'm so much of a fan hahaha.

I started building two guitars since I found your

  • @Sodabowski Hey there, thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoy the vids, as I had immense fun making them.

  • I meant to write 1/4" chisel, thanks.

  • great tutorial. Do you recommend this approach for a beginner? Also, What size chisel are you using, 14"?

  • @frg8888 Most folks use a router, but if you go slowly you will quickly get the hang of it. I think most of that work was done with a 3/8" chisel. But a 1/4" will be needed for some of the tight spots.

  • Great craftmanship, thanks for your amazing videos, Iyou have inspired me to maybe have a go myself, haven't made a guitar since woodwork class at school, I made a telecaster, made evrything from scratch, but never took it up as a profession!...cheers!

  • @mkilner Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the vid. Good luck on your build.

  • OMG, this is amazing, man!

You did it entirely by hand and it's so smooth?

    Thumbs up for you!:)

  • @Pelleman666 thanks, glad you like.

  • awesome crafting skills

  • this is great !!

would you do the same for a solid body electric guitar?

  • @jacksback1021 Sure, dont see why not.

  • @g3speed14

Purfling cutter. Got mine from stew mac. They are made pimarily for acoustic guitars and softwood tops. I use it to score an accurate line to which I then pare

    down with the chisel.

  • very cool : )

  • @SIRONEDRAGON thnks!

  • this is awesome great job

  • @goatsmetallica , thank you!

  • many thanks for this video....i've only made a couple instruments and use wood bindings (for the same reason...I try to make everything by hand when I can!!)

  • Right on! Glad you like.

I'm a big fan of using what you have on hand.

    Thanks for watching.
