In addition to an amazing rendition of the anthem, this video shows a pretty awesome display of American patriotism. The day this was recorded, the US was in the middle of the Gulf War, and support for the country was very high. Pretty cool to see all the proud Americans in the audience waving their flags.
One word: Perfect! She nailed dis!! No one will EVER top singing the National Anthem like Ms.Whintey Elizabeth Houston...you go gurl!!! Your TRUE fans will MISS YOU
Wow Whitney is AMAZING. But this MultiJFletch guy just won't let go of all this crap he's holding against her won't he? You sound really ridiculous as you say things like "dead crack addict" and everyone who comments is against you.
After watching failed/botched renditions from the likes of Roseann Barr(most disrespectful ever), Michael Bolton, Carl Lewis, Steven Tyler, Christina Aguilera (the worst of all time period) watching Whitney Houston do it puts her in a class by herself. Scale of 1-10, she's a 100. Simply the Greatest!!

For the great Whitney has given us over time, it is sad to even speak of the negative that has taken place in her life. She will always be remembered as a great person in my eyes. Great hearts are hard to find and she had a great heart and was a wonderful person. Let her shine over our heads as she has/will always be Whitney Houston the great singer/person/mom/friend. 1 Luv - World Famous DJ Mike Swain
On that day, on that occasion Whitney Houston sang the best and most remarkable version of National Anthem ever done period. Bless her heart it was her gift to all of us.
She sounds amazing and she did it with out lights, dancing etc. Its pure, honest and raw. She isn't lip synching with the size of the stadium there is an echo affect. She had an amazing voice.
To those who could not believe that she could sing the way she sang it in Super Bowl, we gladly encourage you to check her innumerable live performances on YouTube.
Please check the other video where she sang the National Anthem in Norfolk. You will be able to appreciate the fact that she sang this song in the livest of performance.
I do not think that it is justifiable to say that she did not sing the National Anthem on Super Bowl 25 live. If you think of it, the sound itself was played by an orchestra. The emcee said that it was played with a conductor, so it was played live. If it was, then I could not see any reason why the singer would lip-synch it. She has to sing it live with the live orchestra

@kristenssn Nope, not even close, I'm a lower class guy in his mid twenties who is currently in the military. I've learned growing up you can be the most successful person ever, but if you are addicted to drugs, you shouldn't be a role model for anyone. I definitely don't want my kids looking up to a crack addict no matter how successful they are do you, kid? Try again, Junior. Tee hee. ;-)
@MultiJfletch I hate to break your bubble but Whitney Huston died from taking a prescription medication and drinking alcohol, NOT FROM DOING CRACK.. Whitney was a singer/entertainer and she was, and never will be a role model. By the way you are my junior, and to me you are just a kid, I'm 67 years old! Give show some respect to the dead Son and to your elders.

@MultiJfletch Unlike you Fletch, I don't need to watch professional wrestling to expand my vocabulary. It's called getting an education and being smart enough to avoid military service. I'm nobody's pawn.
@ElGorcho Being smart enough to avoid military service? So everyone who joins the military isn't as smart as you in your little mind? I got a degree at Stanford and am an officer in the military. I joined to serve my country that I love. It's sad you think soldiers aren't smart enough to get educations. You really are a sad excuse for a little boy aren't you kid. Try again, Junior. Tee hee. ;-)
@MultiJfletch Here's the thing, how exactly do you go to Stanford, become an officer and qualify as part of the lower class? Sounds like you're a sad excuse for a lying douchebag.
@ElGorcho I was part of the lower class growing up kid. Got into Stanford cause I got good grades in high school and got good scholarships. Then I joined the military to serve my country and not just use it like little pussies like you do, boy. Pretty simple stuff if you think about it and don't just assume someone's lying. I'm sure you're to stupid to realize that though kid. Try again, Junior. Tee hee. ;-)
That was...Fanominal. By far the best sung National Anthem I have ever heard. That is the way it should sound. No frilly voice of special high notes. That was just...wow amazing. A+ for Whitney Houston
By far the best version of the Star Spangled Banner EVER! I'm more of a 90's Alternative Rock kind of guy, but no one can deny how much of a legend Whitney is, I hope she finds peace where ever she is now. Also, to the poster of the video petethegolfer, 360 resolution isn't High Definition, it isn't even Standard Definition (480 is Standard Definition) please don't insult us viewers and Whitney's legacy, we're not idiots.
God has shown us that there are meracues. One of the many we have been blessed with has just been taken back. A gift from god shouldn't be taken for granted. Us as humans can not be expected to be perfect. As we all know of her misgivings ask your self if you could Handel the microscope she has been under. So I thank God that I had the chance to be a whiteness I new as Whitney Huston. Whitney if you could, when you get to Heaven, let God know I said thank you!
@MultiJfletch read my comment again instead of just jumping to conclusions i said i didnt really like her but i liked this performance when did i say i liked this performance after she died? Your to stuck up and snotty about people discovering her music after she died like you knew her personally or something it sickins me how you just judge people and downgrade them because their just noticing her music like its a crime she would want people to enjoy her music young or old everyone would
we all return to our creator in the end, no matter what things we've done - both good an bad Ms. Whitney has truely poured out her very soul through the gift of music as she's stated times before, ....she is, the soundtrack of a generation, an unmatched talent, human, an resting in peace, she is, an will allwayz be Ms. Whitney Elizabeth Houston.....
@Tallnfine Do you know this as a fact? Like are you the savior? Have you died and been resseurected and then ascended to heaven and now have been reincarnated to save mankind? All hail, our lord Jebus!!!!
@Poisonousnut your mother must be real proud of giving birth to a no good waste of skin. sonds like everyone thats talking bad about this woman is mad they didn't have the money or fame like she did. Get of youtube and do something with your life maybe you can die next
@deannabrandy211 What exactly did she accomplish with her life? She ended up pretty much bankrupt, her daughter is a drug addict and rumor has it she didn't have the courage to live in her own skin. Let's not make her out to be more than she was. She had a beautiful voice, but the crashed and burned and brought her daughter down with her. Hardly somebody I'd want to put on a pedestal or somebody that I would want to deify. It's sickening how quickly make martyrs out of dead celebrities.
All praice the Queen, he who picks her oallen wrobe is her heire. I for one cant weare that burdoun nor delightl A QUEEN has fallen from the skiee's embrace her as your own and listen to thy heart, there she will be the biggest of them all. R.I.P. my Queen. Thy weary sword rest a peace,.. R.I.P.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
okay...i really hate the fact that a crack head overdosing gets more media attention than the soldiers dying everyday to defend every crackheads right to smoke crack and waste their lives. that being said i've seen and heard about 100 better versions of our nations anthem. nothing special about this and the only reason people love this song is because she's dead. thank god for that...
@poisonousnut Hey doucher, your totally right, people only like "this song" because shes dead. Yep no one like the national anthem until whitney houston died. In case you cant tell, this is sarcasmnd youre clearly not the brightest crayon in the box
I was disappointed to learn a few days ago that she had pre-recorded this and was only lip synching. Still, she did a darned convincing job of it, and the emotion she put into the recording came through just as well.
Rest in peace, Whitney. Your life was an open book, however, in the midst of turmoil you remembered God. There is nothing you could have done that would have ever taken God's love away from you. I think that we all need to remember that no one is perfect, however, God loves us warts and all. Thank you, Whitney, for sharing with us your beautiful God given voice.
You racist, spineless, cowards that will sit here in front of a piece of glass and plastic and judge and persecute people, with your none perfect butt's, will be judged and persecuted too, believe that. But this video ain't even about you, you just want some attention!!! So people please ignore the ignorant and give respect and love to this beautiful, talented women that was born and died as a child of God!!!! Rest in Peace "Queen Whitney Houston"
@jt3151 Then I blame Minor for ruining this rendition with Yo Yo Ma's pointless strings. They add nothing, if this was done a cappella, with just her and her soaring voice, it would've been truly sublime. Because frankly that's all that's needed to send shivers down my spine, her beautiful voice.
@we3kids I wish America took a look at what we really are and stop following blind nationalism, like we are God's gift to the world and that we can do no wrong.
Not God's gift to the world, eh? This nation has fought more, won more, lost more and given away more to help the downtrodden and oppressed than any other nation in the world, ever. Bite us in the ass? It sure has, because it's true, "No good deed ever goes unpunished". WE should stay home, feed our own, take care of our own, protect our shores, and let everyone else fix their own problems. We will be a lot better off. But I suppose you'd complain about that, too?
@scifirobb Oh yes, and propping up foreign dictators, dethroning democratically elected leaders, giving arms to terrorists are also a part of those good deeds that do not go unpunished. You see if all we did was help the downtrodden and the oppressed then I could see the validity of argument, but the term 'blowback' is usually not used in reference to "humanitarian" acts, it's used for acts that the we the US have become unfortunately synonymous (torture, infringing on soverignty rights etc.)
@scifirobb We American's like to view the world in terms of black and white, good and evil and we assume that we are always the 'good guys', the men in the white hate, when in reality that's nothing but a figment of our American superiority complex.
WOW! There was so much joy bursting out of her as she sang that song! WOW!!! So many singers after her were just up there trying to show of their own talents (remarkable as many of them were) however Whitney's performance is evidence of her incredible spirit, as lost as it was, and her stunning and divine gift of voice.
I can listen to this song everyday before work and still get chills and pumped up everytime.

Tee hee. ;-)
MultiJfletch 1 day ago
@MultiJfletch Here's the thing, how exactly do you go to Stanford, become an officer and qualify as part of the lower class? Sounds like you're a sad excuse for a lying douchebag.
ElGorcho 1 day ago

Your to stuck up and snotty about people discovering her music after she died like you knew her personally or something it sickins me how you just judge people and downgrade them because their just noticing her music like its a crime she would want people to enjoy her music young or old everyone would

@Poisonousnut your mother must be real proud of giving birth to a no good waste of skin. sonds like everyone thats talking bad about this woman is mad they didn't have the money or fame like she did. Get of youtube and do something with your life maybe you can die next
deannabrandy211 1 week ago
@deannabrandy211 What exactly did she accomplish with her life? She ended up pretty much bankrupt, her daughter is a drug addict and rumor has it she didn't have the courage to live in her own skin. Let's not make her out to be more than she was. She had a beautiful voice, but the crashed and burned and brought her daughter down with her. Hardly somebody I'd want to put on a pedestal or somebody that I would want to deify. It's sickening how quickly make martyrs out of dead celebrities.

okay...i really hate the fact that a crack head overdosing gets more media attention than the soldiers dying everyday to defend every crackheads right to smoke crack and waste their lives. that being said i've seen and heard about 100 better versions of our nations anthem. nothing special about this and the only reason people love this song is because she's dead. thank god for that...

This an amazing rendition of our national anthem but it was absolutely recorded in the studio. Ricky Minor worked with her on it
jt3151 1 week ago
@jt3151 Then I blame Minor for ruining this rendition with Yo Yo Ma's pointless strings. They add nothing, if this was done a cappella, with just her and her soaring voice, it would've been truly sublime. Because frankly that's all that's needed to send shivers down my spine, her beautiful voice.

@we3kids I wish America took a look at what we really are and stop following blind nationalism, like we are God's gift to the world and that we can do no wrong.
ElGorcho 6 days ago
Not God's gift to the world, eh? This nation has fought more, won more, lost more and given away more to help the downtrodden and oppressed than any other nation in the world, ever. Bite us in the ass? It sure has, because it's true, "No good deed ever goes unpunished". WE should stay home, feed our own, take care of our own, protect our shores, and let everyone else fix their own problems. We will be a lot better off. But I suppose you'd complain about that, too?
scifirobb 6 days ago 2
@scifirobb Oh yes, and propping up foreign dictators, dethroning democratically elected leaders, giving arms to terrorists are also a part of those good deeds that do not go unpunished. You see if all we did was help the downtrodden and the oppressed then I could see the validity of argument, but the term 'blowback' is usually not used in reference to "humanitarian" acts, it's used for acts that the we the US have become unfortunately synonymous (torture, infringing on soverignty rights etc.)
ElGorcho 1 day ago
@scifirobb We American's like to view the world in terms of black and white, good and evil and we assume that we are always the 'good guys', the men in the white hate, when in reality that's nothing but a figment of our American superiority complex.

WOW! There was so much joy bursting out of her as she sang that song! WOW!!! So many singers after her were just up there trying to show of their own talents (remarkable as many of them were) however Whitney's performance is evidence of her incredible spirit, as lost as it was, and her stunning and divine gift of voice.
