Arnel's got way more chariama on stage along with a much more powerful voice than SP, if some of the videos I've seen of SP here on You Tube are any indication. Sometimes, I'd be listening a Steve Perry rendition of a Journey song and I would always find myself reaching to listen to Arnel's version instead. He gives a depth and fullness as well as pours more emotion into everything he's covered so far with Journey...Goosebumps City...our Arnel! Best discovery of the Century'

That's how music exists. It depends on how it's done. I understand folks want to defend their favorite singer, but I don't think the mentioning of Sam Cooke is valid since all singers are influenced by others. Anyway, Arnel was asked to sing the same songs and to try to replicate Perry's sound somewhat. That's why Soto was fired.
But then the issue here is "replicating". So, you accept the fact that SP is indeed imitating Sam Cooke's voice? Regardless of SP singing only Journey songs but still, he is imitating. Arnel is not the only one who is imitating here. Just accept the truth that a Filipino is filling up the space left by SP and is making waves. SP is good but why don't we just give Arnel a chance. Neil Schon knows whats good for the band. And I think he just made the right choice. Buang ka inataya ka.

ARNEL was THE GREATEST SINGER OF ALL TIME!!!Kabago-bago pa lang niya eh, within a month in the JOURNEY band he recorded at once CD, and then Concert to Chile, then Las Vegas which was SOLD OUT both and the album, my ghost, SOLD OUT again, so they made a production for the USA alone! Ibang klase talaga si ARNEL, mas magaling siya sa live performance than his CD, he was energetic, mapapasayaw ka talaga at mapapakanta!
